Hi guys. I posted this on the 4G64 message board with not too much response yet, so I will post it here and on other boards. Hopefully I get something.

Hi guys. I have found most parts for the small 16g turbo upgrade for
my car. I have a few questions that I want to throw out there.

1) Firstly, I have heard varying opinions on how much boost on I
should run using stock internals. (From 6-8). I have an A/T with
overdrive. What PSI should I be running?

2) Can someone tell me what kind of internals besides the tranny I
should upgrade before pushing beyond 8 PSI boost?

3) If I run at 6 PSI, and for sake of arguement... I am running 200
HP@6 psi. Also assume that the breaking point of my transmission is
210 HP@7 psi. However, if I run at 6 PSI with 200 HP, and do
something like an exhaust upgrade, and get up to 210 HP with
that.... will that break down the tranny too? Increasing horsepower
without increasing the boost.

4) I was looking at gauges for my car. I do not want any ugly gauges
that have green or red back back lights. I liked the Apexi El gauges
because they glow blue. There are two different models, mechanical
and electrical. I am assuming electrical is more accurate, but is
mechanical fine? I basically want to buy matching gauges with blue
backlights for Boost, EGT, and if possible Oil pressure and coolent
temprature. Where would I be able to find these gauges for the best
price? NOPI is extremely expensive showing $140-$280 for one gauge.
Ebay is slightly better, but I only have found the apexi boost gauge
on ebay. If you have other blue backlit gauges you would like to
recommend that are priced better than Apexi, please let me know.

5) I need a gauge holder that mounts on the side of the windshield
on that support bar. I am not sure of what the bar is called. I need
it to be compatible with a Galant 98, and preferrably black or grey
so it matches.

6) I was looking at Apexi S-afc's on ebay, and saw the regular
second generation one for about $260. I also saw some really crazy
looking Apexi JDM ones. Here is a link:

I think this one is in Japanese...

This one looks like the second gen one but it has a dial on it
instead.

This one is the regular one on the apexi usa site.

Can you guys tell me about these, and if I should stick with the USA
version.

Thanks a lot.

Btw - I just got BLOWN out by a lot of people talking trash on me
for trying to do this setup and using a S-AFC to manage the fuel in
my car. What is the deal with that? (Yes, it was a Honduh guy, Acura Integra owner)

Yeah, 6-8 sounds good. I wouldn't go much higher without lots of fuel.

Fuel, Pistons, valvetrain, Intake Manifold

3) If I run at 6 PSI, and for sake of arguement... I am running 200

It dosen't quite work that way... there isn't a magic number that if you hit it your transmission blows to pieces. It would be more likely that your transmission would slowly deteriorate over time, especially when abbused. If you were to drive like a grandma, the stock transmission could probably hold 500+ hp, but the first time you give it WOT from a standing stop...transmission soup. Understand? But, I'd upgrade the transmission as early as possible, because the less damaged it is the easier and cheaper it is to upgrade.

Quality guages are expensive. For somethings you could go on the cheap, especially if your aspirations are somewhat low. Also, it's not too hard to add guages later. Just get the basics, and add as you have the fundage. Of course you should always be shopping around. Never know what you'll run across.

Ricer guage pod huh? Yeah, those seem like a good idea until you actually try to use one. If you're serious about the guages, and don't just want them for looks, integrate them into the dash. They'll be easier to see, won't block your view of the road out the windshield, and dosen't look quite as Honda-ish. Also, no one makes one for the Galant. You have to get a universal one and mold it in yourself.

Stick with a simple one that you can actually use. Also, you might wanna look at buying used. Many people eventually go to stand-alone engine management and don't need their AFC's anymore and sell them fairly cheap (I've seen them go for as little as $100) Again, what matters more to you? Looks or functionality?

Thanks a lot.

Bah...wouldn't be the first time a Honda driver spouted off without having a clue what they're talking about. An AFC is the bare minimum needed for tuning. It's essential. The only thing is that the AFC is limited, and if your ambitions are too great you can easily outstrip the capabilities of the AFC and have to go to a stand-alone. Hope that helps a bit...that was a long post...
