Thanks for the good words guys! It was probably one of the most exciting weekends I've ever experienced. After my disappointment at the drag strip, it starts to put things into perspective when I'm holding my own and pulling on cars that run low 13's. Launching FWD will forever be my nemesis, but at this point I'll be happy knowing it's solid from a roll and on the road course. Hopefully soon I'll throw together some video of a few laps around the track. Although most of it's cruising around the track, I did find some time where a pack of us would maintain some good speed through some of the corners. Couldn't go too hard though because I wasn't in the mood to get kicked off the track.

The turbo one's are so much better in every aspect though. Way more power and better suspension lol
But they're still cool cars :D

That being said I would love to see some full laps of that 8g passing cars left and right on a track lol

^You're not kidding about the Cobalt SS/TC being superior in comparison to the SS/SC! I know most of the Cobalt/Ion/G5 group from my local area, and I watch them all try new things and every time it seems the turbo SS's own the supercharged SS's. The only thing that puts the supercharged SS's on the turbo level is replacing the M62 blower with the TVS and a smaller pulley. Then things start to get interesting.

Isaurio
08-05-2013, 10:47 PM
Did u guys adjust timing to launch the car?

From 800-5k at the 10 load cell u need to decrease timing by 5-8. One, when u try to 2 step at that load engine knocks and pcm will decrease timing. Making it a suck as already suck fwd launch.

If you dont have flash on knock u wont know what im talking about.

Love the cars power and interior..always liked the vids from inside your car cause you get to see both lol. But what crossed your mind when the truck broke loose @ 2:58 iirc lol. I know with my measly 6g72 I would've been like "clearly this is not going to end in my favor". And definitely with the vette lol Nice runs

Ok I might get heat for this and Ive been away from the forum for sometime, That said I am loving these 6G75 swaps and I have to ask because it hasnt been mentioned and I might just be way overthinking this. I keep pondering about the ignition and firing sequence. Do the 72,74, and 75 have the same firing order?

M-Rod
08-15-2013, 04:46 PM
They do. And the distributor is a direct fit replacement for the individual coils found originally on the 6G75.

TargaTop
08-17-2013, 07:39 PM
Does the clutch/flywheel spec change from one engine to the other? Do you need a 75 specific clutch kit and flywheel or are all 6g7*'s again interchangable for this?

M-Rod
08-18-2013, 10:01 AM
You can still use the 6g72 flywheel and clutch. Just make sure you upgrade to a stage 2 clutch to handle the increased torque load. Anything higher than that and you WILL blow your differential, unless you have a Wavetrac or Quaife.

Energy engine mount inserts arrived today. Solid urethane, no relief holes, exactly what I've been waiting for. The included cross member bushings are a nice addition. These should be in the car Saturday to cure my Prothane woes.

Oh, they're still red, I thought Energy's only came in black for some reason. You know red mounts give you that extra 50 HP lol!

M-Rod
08-22-2013, 12:21 PM
They're available in red or black. I chose red so they would still match my 2 Prothane bushings that are staying. Although they won't give me the extra 50hp you speak of (as a joke I know), there will be an update here soon that should be capable of that type of increase.

no3/ meth kit?

M-Rod
08-24-2013, 11:52 AM
Keith, I did. They freshened up the front end quite a bit. Along with new I/O tie rod ends and ball joints, the improvement up front makes the car feel like new.

Greg, it's the TGC sticker making all the difference!

Jared, nitrous may be a last ditch effort after what I have planned if I do decide on more power. I'll keep the thread posted as things come into motion. The parts probably wont be installed until Winter/Spring, but I can drool over them a few months.

And while at it, here's a little update. The weekend at Powercruise proved to be an abusive one.

Here's the front Prothane mount.
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u215/Rodrigoflip/20130713_114915_zps64c94109.jpg (http://s169.photobucket.com/user/Rodrigoflip/media/20130713_114915_zps64c94109.jpg.html)

And the rear.
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u215/Rodrigoflip/20130713_114946_zps4d3e90c1.jpg (http://s169.photobucket.com/user/Rodrigoflip/media/20130713_114946_zps4d3e90c1.jpg.html)

Upon removal, they are squashed and torn.
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u215/Rodrigoflip/20130823_153744_zpsb79cac2b.jpg (http://s169.photobucket.com/user/Rodrigoflip/media/20130823_153744_zpsb79cac2b.jpg.html)

The solution. Energy Suspension, Engine mount inserts. Solid urethane, and another successful day at the Silvertune Garage.

Yeah, I gave the Charger a run for the money. I got my ass handed to me on a few occasions there though for a handful of reasons. The obvious power difference, but also my motor mounts were shot, and the RS-3's are terrible tires for the strip. Also the rear of the car is too soft to launch, as it squats badly. I'm hoping coilovers will help solve that problem for next year.

As far as the bushings go, Energy is what you'll want if you already have Prothane. The Energy kit comes only with the front and rear mount, but also includes the cross-member bushings.

Is this at the MAP Proving Grounds? Looks tight!
It's actually at Powercruise. Same track, different weekend-long event. It's still a blast though.

Awesome! I'll order in a set within the next few days here. Looks like this will bring a nice little update soon to build some anticipation.

Maybe if you're talking about the LX platform cars up there, but the fourth picture, when lined up to get a pass on the strip, I can point out a handful of cars I would rather have in a heartbeat. Primarily that red 'Vette.

Lol yeah the only pic that loaded at the time for me was the one with the lx cars. Now that I see the others, I would hand over my keys for the red vette. The 2G Rear Prothane Bushing kit will be an experiment. I haven't seen anybody confirm it yet, but Silvertune has a full 2G rear suspension at his disposal, and after investigation, it seems the bushings will fit the same. I will keep fitment confirmation on hold until they are installed on my car.

Everything forward of the firewall. Going to take care of the engine bay since it's showing some age, as well as cleaning it up a bit. The motor will get torn down to the short block and go back together with some breathing help, and the entire rear suspension will be getting some attention as well. The interior will also be stripped and put back together with only the necessary items to look complete.

In short, its going to be a scramble to get this thing on the road by the end of April for MAP's Boost for Boobies.

Today the interior received the bulk of attention. All that's left to do is remove the rest of the a/c components and sound deadening mat. After that, make and install a blockoff panel on the firewall where the a/c lines bolt to the expansion valve. Then it goes back together with only the essentials.

Are you keeping the hvac unit itself? If so, I just cut a piece of plastic about the size to cover that hole, drill a hole into it, so I could just put the cover on, and use the bolt that the a/c bolted with to bolt the cover down.

YOU MUST DO A WIRE TUCK
LOL

Are you going to sand down the bay and repaint it?

M-Rod
03-23-2014, 10:14 PM
I think I'll end up blocking it from the inside. That way it's fairly flush from the bay side of the firewall.

Wiring will be somewhat tucked when it goes back together. I want to clean it up a bit. We'll see how involved I decide to get when the time comes.

The bay will get coated in black POR-15. I'm grinding down all the rust first. As you can see, I have plenty to remove on the driver's side of the bay before I get to that though.

Galantman03
03-23-2014, 10:25 PM
Yeah, I see that. I wish I would have used POR, there is just a little rust coming back in mine through the seams that I couldn't sand out. Looking good though. How long do you think will take you?

M-Rod
03-23-2014, 10:39 PM
I'm not sure how long it'll take yet. My ultimate goal is to have the car back together, running, and ready to hit the dyno at Boost for Boobies at MAP, which is April 26th. It's hard to say if it'll happen, but I feel like setting that goal will help give me something to shoot for.

6G72gearhead
03-24-2014, 01:13 AM
That is exactly where my car was rusting around the strut tower, I sanded it down, blasted out all the dust and brush painted por-15 on to really get into the seams. Should keep it from becoming in issue for a long time, it just makes for a little more work to make it look pretty again.

keith6110
03-24-2014, 12:53 PM
Just a tip on your engine bay rust.. If you can clean up and shoot some paint from under the shock tower mount, I believe you won't have rust issues at the seam anymore.

Looking good so far =)

GTMitsu
03-24-2014, 12:56 PM
Are you using those flap discs on a grinder? Those work very well for that type of stuff.

M-Rod
03-24-2014, 02:27 PM
Keith, thats exactly what I plan on doing. I'm pretty sure thats where the strut tower problems come from. All the salt and road junk splashes up and blasts the underside, then sits between the strut and tower.

Alex, I've been using wire wheels. So far, they're doing a fine job.

6G72gearhead
03-24-2014, 02:33 PM
The problem I had was where the strut tower mates to the frame rail, there was a small section that had completely rusted through. That part was cut out and patched with high strength sheet steel then coated in por-15 to keep it from becoming an issue again. Watch rust in that area because any hole in that section could lead to the strut tower fracturing and eventually failing completely.

M-Rod
03-24-2014, 05:07 PM
I'll keep that in mind. Although that section has a bit of rust on my car it seemed structurally sound. I'll make sure of it before the por is applied for good measure.

6G72gearhead
03-24-2014, 08:52 PM
You should be able to see it pretty well when you wire wheel the paint and rust away. Look on the inside of the wheel well and if its bubbled the coating on the inside. That is how I discovered how bad mine was.

It was slightly damaged in my accident back in '07, so the heads, grille, and bumper never quite lined up like they should have after that. It became even more evident when I installed the JDM front end, so I figured now would be the best time to finally replace it.

keith6110
04-18-2014, 09:20 AM
Yep, might as well while you have everything out. When your rad support comes in, put a coat of paint on the under\inner side of it. It will last a lot longer rust wise that way.

Did you have kyb's before? What was your suspension setup previously?

Prep those damn frame rails already and buy a spool of .03 wire for mild steel that requires shielding gas. I'm sure it'll cost you all of $8...

All the same. Hopefully I'll have your intake manifold at work tomorrow. Perhaps a runable engine will facilitate some more motive yet.

Also you should work that wire brush magic you have on the tears in that Y pipe and prep it for that bung. I can take care of all the welding in one go...

Out of curiosity, why are you bypassing the heater core? I know some of you guys live in states where it doesn't get very cold. But having dealt with cars that like to overheat I've found having a working heater can help act as a 2nd radiator and keep an engine that got hot from overheating.

You gonna try and cone race it or anything when its broke in and tuned?

I may chase cones on occasion, but where I'll find most of my excitement will be on Brainerd Int'l Raceway's road course. To add to that list, I'm hoping to come up with a decent 1/4 mile time slip.

A bit has happened the past month, and as a result, the cams were sold and funds were allocated elsewhere. I'm back on stock 3.8 cams, and honestly, I'm okay with that because I have other interests that will be taking precedence.

In the meanwhile, that didn't stop me from attending Powercruise again. Here's the first batch of video: The off-street drag races.

Road course action still needs editing and going through. I recorded about 11GB on the course, so that's going to take awhile.

A Spankin Time Kenne Bell setup, one of my good friends here has been doing a lot of work with them for his challenger. He put his old 2.8 set up on a Charger showcar for a guy in kc, and the challenger is getting built for 1000 hp or more.

M-Rod
08-26-2014, 10:32 PM
I switched back to stock Galant 6G75 cams awhile back. They just didn't seem to have much up top. I think it has something to with the different heads in the 3.8 versus the small valve heads that RPW originally designed cams for.

With that being said, the All-Mitsubishi Cookout and Car Show was this past Sunday in White Bear Lake, MN. I cleaned the car and had plenty of positive feedback. Overall it was a great day.

Ive never seen a cruise like that. i dont think they do it out in the east coast. It Sucks that the stage 2 cam didnt add power up top i wonder if you need complimentary mods for it.

M-Rod
09-08-2014, 08:53 AM
It's because Powercruise is only held on a few tracks in Australia, and the only one in the U.S. is here in Minnesota.

And I'm not even that bummed with the cams. They are what they are, designed for the 3.0. And I'm confident no other details were missed as far as everything else involving the engine. With that being said, it finally puts me back on track with what I wanted to do 2 years ago. Bigger and better things.

M-Rod
09-19-2014, 09:33 PM
The setup offers so much down low and mid-range. It dies off up top but when shifting at 6200, each new gear is right in the heart of the torque band. They are dynojet numbers, and I'm trying to put them to the test this Sunday at the drag strip. Last year's pathetic 14.5 time was with 30 less whp and wtq, 150 more lbs overall weight, blown engine mounts, soft-ass lowering springs, and a complete noob of a driver for launching on the strip. I'll be shooting for a 13-second pass. Will I get it? I don't know. But without goals, there is nothing to strive for.
