Sigma, GTI, VR-4, 240M. These are just some of the badges that have graced one of the most revered lines of automobiles in nearly 40 years of production: the Mitsubishi Galant.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation recently welcomed the arrival of the latest Galant, the SE, by inviting members of the motoring press to experience what the new flagship has to offer.

For 2010, the Galant receives a new host of advanced features and upgrades. From the outside, the new Galant SE gets a fresh new face, starting with a new hood that does away with the original Boulay touch on the outgoing 240M model and provides a new, prouder chrome grille. High Intensity Discharge projector headlamps take care of illumination duties at night, while electronically controlled side mirrors (with power folding functions) were integrated with side turning lamps. Each side of the car features protective door moldings with chrome inserts, while the roof is finished with a fin-type antenna and the back has a new pair of taillamps.

Inside, Mitsubishi's flagship sedan keeps the premium feel of the car with luxurious soft leather appointments and wood trimmings. The driver's seat gets 8-ways powered adjustability with lumbar support while the passenger seat can be adjusted 4-ways. Other comfort touches include a fully automatic climate control system, automatic retractable rear glass sunshade, separate rear aircon vents, map lamps & rear seat reading lamps and a host of compartments on the center console, instrument panel and rear seat armrest. On the dashboard, a CD/DVD/MP3 entertainment system has been seamlessly integrated, while the steering wheel also receives new upgrades with audio controls and a Tiptronic shifter for greater driving fun.

Powering the Galant SE is the 4G69 inline-4 engine, a 2.4-liter motor equipped with MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing and Electronic Control System) that adjusts valve timing for optimal performance for all driving conditions. Transmitting the engine's power and torque to the road is an INVECS-II 4-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of safety and security, the Galant SE is equipped with dual stage SRS airbags, a rearview camera plus front and reverse parking sensors, making parking easier and safer.. The central door locks also has an auto lock feature once the vehicle moves to 5 kilometers per hour and, as an additional safety feature, the Galant SE audio and video system has Bluetooth connectivity function with mobile phones, making calls a safer affair.

The most awaited upgrade, however, has to be the satellite navigation system that has been built-in with the in-car entertainment unit, allowing Galant SE owners to chart their own course in the Metro and beyond. Setting off from Manila, participants each took a new Galant SE on a pre-charted course up to Massimo's in Tagaytay City, a secluded restaurant easily found by the GPS satnav system.

Priced at PhP 1,588,000 , the 2010 Galant SE is available in three colors: Merlin Black, Excalibur Silver and Nicolei Grey.

With a new design, high level of comfort and advanced upmarket features, various members of the motoring press expressed their satisfaction on the new and upgraded flagship, adding another great badge, SE, to a long and illustrious line of Mitsubishi Galants

Still doesnt stand out from the Altima, Camry, Accord, etc. Just another face in the crowd imo. Still a nice car tho, but Mitsubishi needs to do something to stand out or their going to suffer. The dealership here in Greensboro only has three cars on the lot a Lancer, Galant and Outlander and thats it. There is literally three cars sitting on the lot, when I road by I though they had moved. If it wasnt for the hyundai dealership its partnered with they'd be gone by now.

Nothing special.. I agree with you folks that they need to do more brainstorming & come up with ideas that will make the Galant stand out.

does mitsu not realize they can't beat honda/toyota at their game, mitsu needs to be the anti-toyota alot of sport yet still economical........IMO they need to bring the G back to the US but more as a successor to the lineage of the 6/7/8g!

This Galant looks really big, just like the 9g. I guess its made to be the baby of Galant and Diamante since the luxurious Mitsubishi model was discontinued. We are still waiting to see the return of four wheel drive mid size sedan and its glory as a sports car. They can still make the lower trim models and assemble them with auto transmissions, but its really time to see something RAW from the new Galants.

looks like a lexus to me..
The only thing that should be on it are the seats with a/c....
Idk how this system is called but I have seen in some lexus that u can feel the a/c coming out from the seat.... It would be pretty nice and fresh in the galant...
But I don't like the new version of galant...

pretty sure the model in that article isnt coming to the US...

and for all you 8g guys, the galant isnt going to get any smaller thats what the Lancer is for.. personally, i'd like to see them put out a G with a manual transmission and AWD.. they already have the parts for both (4g eclipse and endevor)... that plus a more powerful version of the mivec 6G75 would be tits

x50.

I say they just restart production of the 8th gen VR4 and start producing them in the states with all new technology and a couple of exterior changes.

It is really a shame what's going on with Mitsubishi Motors. Since mitsubishi arrived in America, It was always known by their aggressive looking cars. They may not have been as well trusted as Toyota, Honda or Nissan, but for sure ,people always knew them because of their exterior, interior esthetics and performance. In my opinion, All mitsu cars since the 80's have been much better looking that their competitors. 6G galant looked better than the late 80's Camry,Accord, Mazda 626, Nissan Stanza(not to mention the crappy american car such as Cavalier/Corsica and Taurus). 7G Galants...better looking and more powerful than 90's Camry, Altima, 626, Accord, etc. 8G Galant...wow!! when it came out everybody said it looked like a BMW..VERY AGGRESSIVE LOOKS....it made the competitor cars look like old man's cars. Same story with the Starion/Conquest......vs 80's 280Z, Supra, RX7....you'd be the judge. 1G Eclipse..Beautiful. 2G Eclipse does not even compare with the 90's Celica, Integra, Prelude, 240Z. To have 210hp on a stock 2G Eclipse was mind blowing at the time! 3000GT VR4............Should I say more.........The only car that was as beatiful was the last Gen Supra (I give credit for that one) MITSU 1G DIAMANTE, Gorgeous Car!!!! My Father had one back in 96'.....Sporty back end similar to the Galant....Sophisticated front. Interior made you feel like you were inside a MASERATI, Then, the changed it to the new UGLY design (and tried to save the day by making a VR-X model) Montero vs everything else......etc,etc.

I am sorry, but it seems that after the year 2000.....all the mitsubishi models have gone down style wise....... Montero to Endevor.......Aggressive 8G galant to more sober 9G galant......Sporty 2G Eclipse to a not so bad, less powerful 3G, to a just too round, mind numbing, plane ugly 4G eclipse........3000GT, WHERE???.......... NOW the 2011 Galant you guys are showing.......It is simply an OLD MAN'S Car....not to different from a Lincoln or Cadillac in the worst way possible. What's going on MITSU DESIGNERS???!!!!!! While you are eating sh@@.....toyota came out with a beatiful 2010 CAMRY (now, that's beatiful) Nissan Altima,....how about the Nissan MAXIMA? (WOW what a performance......where is a DIAMANTE to compete with that) Acura TSX..Excellent! Accord...not my cup of tea, but for sure is better looking than the last Gen Galant....MAZDA got their stuff together (thumbs up). Subaru Legacy...SPEACHLESS!!!!

Unfortunately for Mitsu enthusiast like myself.....the reality is that the tables have turned around.....now a days other japanese brands are making better looking cars, and guess what....they already have the trust and popularity from the people....so there is nothing else to do. MITSUBISHI MOTORS is still in the market because of the Evolution, plane and simple....Evo has no comparison besides the STI. So in conclusion, If it wasn't for the evo and possibly the nice looking Outlander.......mitsu would be more bankrupt than Chevrolet, Chrysler and Hummer all together.

Sorry if I hurt someone's feelings by talking crap about their car or a car they may like.....it is just my opinion.

9G
09-27-2009, 03:32 PM
ouch. you hurt my feelings.

^^ not to upset eneybody but the us mid late 90s prelude and teg came 190-200 hp n/a . the 1g was the real power house of its class/time. but i mostly agree with you and mitsu isnt the only company losing good cars :/

hey my ralliart is faster than a maxima... or at least was until they came out with the brand new one lol

The Ralliart Galant, even though is the sharpest looking from the whole model line, it cannot be compared to the Maxima. Have you seen the NEW MAXIMA???? that thing is amazing from any angle you may look at it......just shy of 300HP WOW!!! Even the 2002-2003 model with 260HP would spin the tires in 3rd gear....and that was a heavy car.
I totally respect you opinion but my previous point not only talked about the power, but about style, sportyness, been different..not just another car from the crowd.......That's what MITSUBISHI was in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. All that went to hell at MMC.

i think the new maximas are gorgeous so i agree with you... though compared to the previous maxima, i think the galant does have a bit more personality to it.. in general though i do know what you mean... they shouldve never killed the AWD turbo eclipse and they shouldve had a successor to the 3000gt... the 9g moved up in size to fill the gap the diamante left and the lancer took the place of the galant, but again i think things couldve been handled better... so in short, i agree
