i was driving to the courthouse for a mitigation hearing and my tranny just stopped working. it does nothing at all, every gear is like neutral.

the fluid is at the correct level.

i am super pissed because on top of this i have to pay 52 more dollars for missing court so i am going to be broke for a very long time.

anybody know whats wrong with the tranny? im going to take it to a shop probably later and get an estimate.

if when you try to shift gears and it does nothing at all i could be anything from the shift cable/connection assembly on the tranny to an internal problem, if when you shift and the tranny still shifts "ie you can feel it shift" and the car just doesn't go any where it could be your torque converter went out, either way without having the tranny infront of me and taken apart there's no real way to tell auto tranny's are pretty complicated beast's, but i do know this chance's are it'll be expensive.

The PO of my galant had the AT rebuild less than 10k miles ago at a cost of $3600 bucks, so my i'd tell ya it's time for a 5speed swap :P

yeah i was thinking its time for a 5 speed but i found a v6 galant with bad motor for 500 bucks so i might get that and just swap the tranny.

btw i made it to the court house and had to pay an extra 50 bucks for missing my hearing... good timing galant... total was almost 300.

im gunna be broke for a while.

I'm willing to bet it's the torque converter, that's the same thing that happened in my supra and we swapped out what we thought was a broken tranny but reused the torque converter, sure enough it didn't work again even though the new tranny was freshly rebuilt. If you need some help working on it bro lmk, I might be able to drive up and we can wrench on it.

by typing my repair manual for this galant i found:
p0760= automatic transaxle shift selenoid C electrical malfuntion (2.4L four - cylinder)

p0765=automatic transaxle shift selenoid D electrical malfuntion (2.4L four - cylinder)

IF WATER CONTAINING FluId THAT SOME OF THE THINGS THAT I SEEN IN THE MANUAL IS THAT IF YOU LOOK TO CONTAIN WATER COOLING THE FLUID THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE RADIATOR AND WATER THERE ARE TIMES THAT HAPPENS TO THE FLUID TraNNY

what happened is that ami galant tranny is one fridge in forward speed.
apparently there is a screw in the body that regulates trotle air entering the engine and the screw maladjusted havia so why the fridge is Transmit.
My uncle had trouble with that of the for the following: the transmission is in the inside a valve that regulates the speed and stopped and the car in the middle of the street stood up and did not move to the front nor behind.

Your transmission is fucked bro, you need a new one. I'm sorry

From what I know of the transmission stuff is the Solenoids are part of the transmission Valve body and they can be replaced seperately. You could either pull a Valve body with the solenoids on them and swap in, or just switch over the solenoids.

I haven't looked into the automatic tranny on our cars too much just yet, but the automatic transmission design is fairly generic and only differs in the FWD/RWD application.

^^they can be replaced separately but the labor to do it is expensive those are same codes that were pulled from my supra's old AT , whereas swapping in a new tranny can be done in a driveway with a few buddies, because I doubt that most people have the training/knowledge to work on an AT

well i know they can be replaced and i read the guide on how to do it, it doesnt look to hard, BUT why did they both fail at the exact same time? i think its a bigger problem.

i dont know anything about transmissions though.

This just happened to my car this morning. I warmed it up for about 15 minutes and drove 1/2 mile to an on ramp. 1/2 mile after I got on and got up to speed the transmission stopped engaging in any gear. The codes I got were 755 and 765, solenoids B and D. I have the car at the mechanic now.

Yes, I drove it to the toll booth stopped for 30 seconds and started again. Got up to 60 mph and it lost drive. Mechanic called and said it was related to a spring by the pump that goes bad and causes it to not pump. They said total trans rebuild by another shop. I am having them look into a used tranny. Remove and replace of trans would be about $600.

mine was like this up until I pulled it out.

I thought it broke a few months ago cuz the car got loud all of a sudden, but it turns out my exhaust rusted out and the trans worked fine. this wasnt obvious until I changed the exhaust and put a V6 TB on.

I've got a 6 speed in my Miata. The Galant is for when I don't want the hassle of a stick! The repair shop found a local company that will do a rebuild and give it a one year warranty for $1895. Not sure if I want to put that into the car. It's 9 years old now and has 112,000 miles.

unless you got the 2g's stuffed in a wall to drop on it i wouldn't, you could get a used tranny for a 3rd of that and have some friends help you put it in, besides geting the car far enophe off the ground to get the tranny off and out it's realy not that hard.

I searched on car-part.com for transmissions and saw a lot of 100k trannys for around $1000.

I decided to get mine fixed. I agonized over the decision because I would like to get something else, but the time is not right. Plus as is the car is virtualy worthless. I figure that if I sell the car in a year I'll at least get back what I put into the tranny repair plus I get to use the car for that amount of time.

I feel you my friend. My VW Passat had the tranny die on me a few weeks ago. $3K to fix so I bought a $2K galant instead to get me around quick. The VW is sitting in the parking lot waiting for funds to get it fixed or i'll just sell it as it is, got too many other problems anyway. I just hope I dont get double whammy with the galant, it has 115K miles already altho it drives really good.

I had my tranny fixed and it seems to be working well. It cost $1900 and came with a 2 year guarantee. The problem now is that I'm paranoid about something else going wrong with the car and having to put more money into it. It does seem to be running well though.
