I installed a 12" MTX Audio Thunder 5500 in the Sledgehammer ported box alongside an older model (96' maybe) KENWOOD AMP.

Bridged the connection for more power, since it's only a 300W. (Not really looking to tear my car apart). Although I seem to have trouble configuring my JVC Receiver for the best sound output.

Any ideas? Tips?

Additional Info:
Box is mounted to the trunk via screws and two L-Brackets.

Currently have (LOUD ON, HIGH GAIN, and Sub Level 6/8, Frequency MID)

nope u can't not do that the sound will not be the same the best way for u to mount ur box is to let it sit on the trunk carpet i use double sided straps and it holds it down very well

what voltage do you have the low pass set to... do you have your high pass filter on?

The KENWOOD I have doesn't have too many settings, I believe I have HPF ON.

Other than that the only settings are mono-stereo, and a "dial" that amplifys.

I would set your HU sub to 0 loud off and play with those... then set your head unit

Should I invest in a new AMP? If I have the Thunder 5500 12" - (300W RMS)

And I want to do a bridged connection on a two channel AMP, what amp would give the the FULL 300W RMS?

Don't want to blow it when I bridge it by having it amp it too much.

Should I switch to a MONO Amplifier? one that has 200-300W RMS for a 4 ohm Sub?

Anyone agree on a Kenwood KAC-6104D (Class D Mono AMP 600W Max with a 200-300W RMS)?

forget rms unless your an audiophile, whats the total handling power of the sub....800-1200 is average. the way i do it is if the amp in 2 channel i bridge, I have 2 10'' in now that are wired in a series bridge. I need to get a 1000 watt amp because the subs over draw the amp if they hit good at high volume. I would run the (1000) watt sub with a 1000 watt amp and turn the voltage down, are you 4 ohm stable or better?

Thunder 5500 12" Sub is a 4ohm

I bought the mono amp, I really need to replace the garbage one I currently have.

so your sub is only rated for 300 watts....if so the a 600 watt 2 channel will run it if you dont bridge, if you bridge you get something like 500 plus watts and you will smoke you sub. if you buy 2 of the subs and run series you will be ok with a bridge.

so what this shows is series will double the ohms
parallel will decrease the actual load by a factor of 4 or 3/4 total actual load decrease

well rated for 300W RMS at 4 ohms.

the kenwood is only 200W RMS at 4ohm. and is mono so it cant be bridged

all a bridge does is make 2 channel into mono

i always match my rms and max wattage with my subs and amp. my gain is on -8 and my bass is -12 and it sounds great. check what you have your lpf on your amp and the gain on the amp, i have my gain barely over half and the lpf at about 80 to 100 (but each sub is different)

Hey i would get an MTX JH300 or JH600 amp..they are very powerful mono blocks.I have the JH600 in my car and it pounds like crazy.

Yeah the new AMP that's coming wednesday is the MAX PEAK wattage and MAX RMS specifically for the Thunder 5500.

Also it has a LPF which is adjustable (current AMP doesnt have this)

Yea that will proly work pretty good...i would jus keep my bass down. My amp bass is down and on my stereo. all my subs and amps match perfectly with power standards and i have one of the loudest around my county. I'm wantn to get a set of MTX subs tho for my amp bcuz my subs now are SQ and arent loud enough once they get turned up. And there 600 watts a peice..which should be louder!!

MTX seem's to be pretty damn good to me, even with my outdated 1996 Kenwood 300W MAX AMP.
