Just today yet again whenever I turn, a louder thud when I take right turns usually.
It sounds like a bowling ball being drop under my car, except its like 30 times louder, and when I'm only going like 5-10mph, especially at uneven pavement..What do we think the problem is? i hear it mostly near the 2 rear wheels.

Please help! its making me worried. :icon_frown:

im going to guess the top middle screw on one of your rear shocks isnt tightened down all the way, causing your car to thud when driving over uneven pavement

omg thanks bro! atleast i hav an idea wat to look for coz there seems to be no problem the last time i got my oil change along wen i told my uncle to check anything if there's any problem.

One of the forums i read online that has almost the same problem as me. They said it might be the "in-out play of the axle shaft as it slides very slightly in and out against the c-clip" which i don't have a clue what they were talking about:orangesigh:

Thanks tho! Im hoping your right!!!

if it's not what qnz said look at your rear sway bar link. Mine failed after I installed the coilovers and it did a god awful sound when I would go on uneven pavement

If its only happening when you turn it might be your knucke, I would have to hear it to know for sure though

Im having the same problem but my sound is from the front. And it almost sounds like the engine is shifting and slamming. but it only happens on left turns at like 15 to 20 mph for me. Cant find anything loose. But any ways keep us posted if you find out what it is.

after taking out the right rear wheel on my car, i found out that my "sway bar link?" i think that is, about 2 inches long with two ball joint, is disconnected at the bottom part connecting it from the wheel! and as i notice the bar is kinda swinging on top of the metal around and slipping and snapping it back on its place as gravity pulls it back in position....thats why as i turn it swings back on top of the metal and it gets squish back causing the thud on the metal surrounding!

so what i did was i tapped it with an electrical tape where its still connected on the other side so it won't swing back on top of the metal surrounding its place...i hope to replace it soon!

And im hoping thats whats making that big bang noise!!! anyone thinks im right?:orangecry:

Is the endlink broken? If it is you might as well replace them because I doubt duct table will do much.

If the sway bar link was broken and not connected, thats going to cause some noise. They are not difficult to replace, and you should replace both of them. The links are not expensive and can be bought at almost any parts store.

Taping up the broken link just so it doesn't make a noise, in my opinion, is putting a bandaid on a severed limb. Get the parts (they are inexpensive) and replace the links. With air tools, it took me about 10 minutes. Without air tools, it would have taken another 10 minutes.

Front stabilizer links (sway bar links) can be found here for cheap for your 2001 galant ES:

http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/2001/mitsubishi/galant/suspension/sway_bar_link.html

Purchased mine from there, extremly fast shipping and they were cheap! Havnt experienced any problems! I would replace bolth left and right links! Like "Polishmafia" said they are an easy fix to do, and do not take up alot of time fixing them, just two bolts that hold them in!

yeah one of the joint is disconnected..is replacing one means replacing both sides?

i kinda saw how its holding, i think its jus bolts and nuts, but the bar link is about 1 inch far from where it used to be connected because the car is lifted up..so that means i might need some tension to push the coil/shaft up while the car is on jack in order to connect the sway bar joint link..

http://ai.pricegrabber.com/pi/70/47/61/704761111_160.jpg http://www.carquestchassistraining.com/images/sway_bar_link_revised.jpg Should look something like that! one side is connected to a tab coming off of your strut. The other is connected to the sway bar on the bottom. Yes its a good idea if one went to just replace them bolth. The sway bar links come fixed with bolts that stick out and go into the holes (one on the strut, and the other on the bar) they are held in by 12mm nuts i think. And yes you are going to have to put some tension on them to get them connected because depending on how the car is lifted if one side is connected the other side will be tougher to put in place.

i was right! lol.

mine broke when I installed the coilovers. I have yet to fix it. I've autox'd with it broken and did a lot of spirited driving. and the car is still solid. But it for sure needs to be tightter on those tight turnarounds. It gets sloppy. It's on my list of things to fix this winter.

People, stop posting about front sway bar links. He clearly stated he took off the rear right tire.

This one you posted is what you need.

i didnt really tried to tape it back where it got disconnected, i just taped it to the metal bar where its still connected. Just to prevent it from swaying/swinging around. But yeah it looks like the last picture you posted, the ones in the rear...

I'd personally go with the 2nd ebay listing its specifically for rear end links on 8g/3g cars. And by the looks of it, the first ebay listing for end links looks a tad longer which may or may not be the actual end link if so prob would affect install.

Uh, you know this thread is from November of last year, right? Hahaha.
