View Full Version : Alternate Ways to Install JDM Grille

Im looking for some "unorthodox" ways that some members have installed their JDM Grille.
You know custom made brackets, maybe attachments to a radiator cooling plate or whatever you got...

See the issue is my JDM heads dont have the inner tabs to snap the grille into so I have my JDM Grille all zip-tied into the radiator support right now. And I dont feel very comfortable knowing that anyday it could come swinging off. I fear this bcz I had zip-tied a billet grille into my old USDM bumper and one day it came swinging off bcz the zip-ties broke after stress & time. Luckiy I caught it in the parking lot and didnt run over it on the FWY!

I've searched and haven't come up with much, so I figure this could be useful to any members who want to see some different ways that they could install theirs also. If we get enough input we could even make this a "Sticky" like the "JDM Heads Install" thread. So post what ya got!

use wire instead of zip ties? metal > plastic

i made a little L bracket that bolts to the subframe and the top of the grille.

i dont trust those stupid clips i couldnt get them to fit perfect.

mine is clipped in and zip tied for extra security, but the grill will stay on w/o the zip ties. the zip ties are not at the top so you can't see them.

i like how lucap100is did it:

he used plastic fasteners that pop out for removal. pretty slick.

also if you use hood struts, you can get rid of that little plastic piece that holds the hood prop when the hood is closed... always hated the hood prop!

I've got mine ziptied for now. But fabricating something out of aluminum is in the works like i've seen on a members ride on here. Dont recall who though.

i riveted 2 L shaped brackets on and screwed them to the radiator support. easier for removal than plastic clips. I was planning on putting a big sticker to cover the rivets but then i got lazy

True, but makes it difficult for removal...

Yeah I saw that, looks pretty cool, but Im not that good with aluminum to fab that up...

I like this idea too, so u riveted and screwed the lower L bracket to the radiator support, what did you use to fasten the grille to the L bracket? Screws as well? Did you have to cut any tabs? Any other pix?

i think you misunderstood. I riveted an L bracket to the grill, (the 3 silver rivets) and then i screwed the bracket to the radiator support, (the 2 black screws). I do not have anything else securing my grill, but the grill is definately not going anywhere.

dont need to rivet it, just get some bolts, thats what i did. i dont like the idea of rivets.

Seems like the L brackets are the quickest & easiest way to mount these. Unless you have the means to fab up or buy a radiator cooling plate & mount it there.
Anyone else with any other methods?

i have mine hooked up to where they need to be hooked up, to the JDM headlights and a few points that match up with US stock grill. once you get the jdm headlight flushed like they are supposed to be and not cut off the tabs from the jdm headlight the grill fits perfect.

but since you dont have those tabs you should still be able to link the jdm grill to atleast two or 3 stock point on the stock location and the L braket would be the best way to go but I agree with Reelax the way lucap100is looks very slick

if you got a JDM grill you will need JDM headlights. do a search on here for "JDM headlights" and you will find a tutorial i wrote years ago on how to install them... actually here it is:

I totally forgot about that cooling plate / JDM grille holder. Wish someone could mass produce them, or make one for me. Guess I'll take a pic of this to a local metal shop to see if they can make one for me.
