So I met up with a guy today and purchased the first step in my turbo build i got
turbo/o2 houseing...ect
S/M intercooler
BoV
and manny all for 70 bucks

he said the parts were of a 95 but after pulling the modell # it's a 1989 so it's a 1st gen, question is i know i got a stupid good deal but... are all the parts going to work.

Not a bad deal really, but the SMIC won't do much good if you upgrade to a larger turbo. $70 though, I for one wouldn't complain because most of the turbos (I think thats a 14B you got?) they are asking for atleast $100 for on Craigslist out here when I see them

Man that manifold looks like its for a 1.8 DOHC... Something just seems really odd with it. And i dont think they made a 89 eclipse. 90-99 were the years i BELIEVE. But i think the td04 is a 14b which should be ok unless it has alot of shaft play.

well it would be a 1990, but if you pulled the vin it would be mfg 1989, IE mfg sept 1989 for the 1990 model year, i fiddled with the shaft abit and no left or rights or ups or downs or in and outs it seems pretty solid.

Well left or right and up and down play would be the same. LOL.. Just picking. Im telling u i own a 90 eclipse. It doesnt look anywhere near what that one looks like. Im more than sure they wont change it in 2 months but they could. Ive just never seen that manifold before myself.

so an update i decided to see if the manny and the turbo match up after you said shadow and /sigh they don't that's some random manny from some random car damn shame so i still have to find a 1g or 2g manny now.

well i found the full model # of it it is a TD04-13G/5 with a A/R of 5.0

so what do you all think were looking at boost and powerwise with a basic setup

IMO that might be too small for the 2.4L

seth98esT

That is too small on a 2.4L, you will be lucky to make 200whp. If you want a budget turbo, get a 14b, make in the upper of 275whp+ range.

Peano ran a 13g on his 7g and made something like 184whp.

lol and not to mention the turbo will spool at like 1800-2000 rpms and max out hella early-_-

well i wasn't wanting to make any land speed records this will be my first FI project/car i was only thinking maybe 200-250 hp, do you all think maybe i should run with this for now and learn this stuff and upgrade to a bigger turbo later or just scrap this stuff and start over?

Poison457
12-05-2009, 06:13 AM
well nevermind after doing some looking around on the interwebz i think i'm just gonna scrap this stuff and start over the 13g can hit a max of 18psi which is good for me, spools at 1800 but max's at 2800 which is meh, the largest problem is finding a manny for it, this is off of the auto turbo eclipse and TT stealth/gt's so no one make's a aftermarket manny, and just a PITA to try and find a stock one.

Well thanks a ton for your imput everyone, guess i'm on the hunt again maybe i can sell this turbo on CL or ebay and make a few bucks back so it's not a total loss.

Would it be any good on my soch 4g63

Poison457

well joe it's not that the turbo is bad it's just small, hard to find a manifold for, after doing abit more searching i found a manny for it, about 100 shiped, the problem though is it's small, so it spools fast and max's early, i suppose if your just looking for some extra push cruisin around town then yea it might work for ya

the 185hp that Peano got "give or take" is probably about right but certainly not the max this turbo can put out, i've found serveral older "as in 2002-2004" posts over the web people puting down 225-270whp useing this turbo on different engine's from honduh's to older suburu's, will it make that in a 2.4L i doubt it. one of the main problem's that i've read about running a small turbo on a larger engine is boost creep, in other word's once the turbo is maxed the boost can "creep or spike" on you so say you have or boost set at 8psi, and your heading up to 5500rpm's all of sudden the turbo creeps to 12-15psi on you and blow's your motor "boom", you could have the hotside fin's "cliped" and it would move the effective range of the turbo up the rpm range abit but you would still have to small of a turbo.

the bones of it is this, if your looking to make power a 13g isn't going to turn heads or put you in your seat with much force but if you want to just put put around town a little bit quicker then i'm sure it would be doable, but to make a crappy analogy it would be like taking a jog in a size 8 sneaker's when you wear a size 10

i was looking at a 1.4l Colt thinking it might be prime for that

Poison457
12-05-2009, 02:49 PM
lol well for a 1.4 it might just turn into a little monster, if you want it i'll give you a deal on it if you pay the shipping

JoeRad

sure whats the shipping to Ireland, also correct myself 1.2l

12-05-2009, 10:38 PM
umm for a 25lb or 11.3kg package i can't imagine it would be cheap i was thinking like $25/16.8 euro plus shipping but shipping self would probably be like $250/160euro it's up to you bro but i'm pretty sure you could find a turbo there someplace alot cheaper than well might as well say 200 euro's
