For $20 I don't think it was a bad deal. There is some minor curb scratches but I plan to sand them down soon and paint them. I just need some opinions... Original silver, black, gunmetal, or charcoal? My car is the light brown beige color.

Is it really? It looks good.

I'm just trying to expand my options and get everyone's good opinions. Maybe this will help?

go bronze

I wouldn't go bronze for that size and shape of wheel. I wouldn't go any color except OEM silver or maybe a darker silver

Darker Silver would seem good to me.

I was thinking of doing a steel grey, which is a darker silver referring to the colors I last posted. I guess i'll get started today sanding.

Craigslist. I actually contacted the same guy who was selling these rims for $50 back in July but i never got to see them and he just relisted them the other day so i hurried out to pick them up. All he wanted was $25 but he took $20

How much further do I need to go on sanding? Second picture shows using a steel wire brush for my drill, don't know if that was a good idea. I'm thinking after a few coats of primer it won't show?

Go back over it with some rough-ish sandpaper, then finer sandpaper, the scratches will go away. Also, use a filler primer, (it'll say on the can) that way it fills light scratches.

RayDub

So i should be good for most of the sanding? I guess i went out and bought a couple unnecessary things but i'll return them. Should I use paint thinner to clean it up before using the filler primer?

Looks like you got it pretty good to me, just make sure everything is smooth, or close to it, and the body filler should take care of the rest. Use rubbing alcohol, it cleans up any greasiness or oil from hands, and it dries in seconds.

EDIT:

Oh and if you ever need some finer sanding, or in hard to reach places, I've got a dremel and I'm in AZ too, hit me up, I'll be glad to give you a hand.

Yeah, everything is pretty smooth. Three more to go.

make sure you get all the paint/metal dust off of the wheels before you paint them. But like Hungarian said, just sand those scratches a bit more, and the primer will hide them pretty easily as long as they're not too deep

RayDub

Ok thanks. I know they weren't deep, i'm just glad i stopped and sanded the rest of the wheel.

EDIT: I think I'm settling on a darker silver than the original color.

Looks good man, heck of a steal for what you paid!

Powdercoating is very expensive like mentioned, normal pricing for that ranges anywhere from $65-$150 per wheel depending on the shop. I had my 350Z wheels ceramic coated which for all 4 getting blasted and coated I ended up paying roughly $300 for that.

The duplicolor paints work great for this stuff though, a lot of folks (not just on here) have done it with great results. For your color of the car I would check out a gunmetal color, or a real dark silver. Check out G-Spots ride and you will see what it would come out like, that color combo looks great with the vehicle paint you have.

Well, here's an update. I finally made some time all week to get the wheels done up. Primer, clean, paint, paint, clear coat. I used two cans of everything from Rustoleum. The clear coat didn't get too glossy but the finish is good. Onlyproblem is that it chipped a little. Maybe i jumped ahead of time but, what do you guys suggest on protective clear coats? Here's some pics (fist with chip).

That doesnt look half bad. Are those 15's?

Next time use index cards to mask the tire so you dont get over spray all over the tire.

Thanks for the input. I did use index cards in the one with the tire. the set came with one tire and its bad anyways and don't plan on using it. I guess I'll go back and get a few more cans of clear coat...

You need to make sure the surface was prepped correctly. If not, all the clear coat in the world won't keep it from chipping. But great color choice.

Well, they're on the car. Ended up getting some new tires (Sumitomo LSHs). They look great and have about 520 of meat on them. I still don't know too much about them but my friend who owns a Big O only sold them to me for $60 each, nothing else added. The guy who mounted the wheels chipped them pretty good so i'll have to go back over them at some other time but they look good from a glance.

Can't wait to get my struts and springs. Just got a new job so i'll have it done this summer.
