yup just like the title says, tonight i am the proud owner of a 1988 Mitsubishi Mighty Max, the car is a little rough on the outside and came with no engine, it was originally quipped with the 2.0L motor which put out 88hp and if you are familiar with that truck then you know what it is capable of :)

few quick pics i took after i got it

How would a 2.4 DOHC swap be any different then a 4g63 swap? Either way, you still have to have the D50 transmission as there are NO stock OEM Mighty Max transmissions that bolt to a 63 or 64.

That's where I'm having a problem comprehending. According to what I read that if I have narrow block which I do then my transmission should work with the 4g63 but I read somewhere else what you exactly have said

Easiest way to tell is to measure the bell housing.

http://www.hotrodcoffeeshop.com/forum/

http://maxd50scene.com/forums/index.php?sid=db3dd4a1abbef76a51f98e934c09e7c9

And just do some searches on dsmtuners and dsmtalk, lots of info spread out all over the place.

Yes I read project zero last night as well as dsm talk and from what I understood if the two bottom bolts on the bellhousing are 12.25" apart then I should be able to use it.

Either way I'm debating between the 1g 4g63t engine or the 7g 4g64 engine

4g64 = win

I want one!

There's a nice one on Gearbox

I agree that the 4g64 = win but more money is involved at that point where the dsm 4g63t is already turbo and already makes decent power stock. The reason I say that is cause I don't wanna sink too much money in it

Nice, I have a 87 D-50. The greatest gas mileage I've ever gotten in a car.

I would go with the 7th G 4g64 SOHC for now. The reason being is becasue its a truck! With a truck you are going to want more torch for towing and hauling capabilities.. The only this with the 4g63 is that you will be able to rev higher. Yes you will be able to get good easy HP with the 4g63 but the torch for a truck is really what counts. Then in the future you can always swap the head over to a DOHC head and put a 16G turbo on it and call it a day. You really aren't going to spend too much money for the 4g64 setup. The reason being becasue everything for the 2G eclipse pretty much works with that motor. I really think that's what you should go with!!!! PLus it will be unique!!!

see if you have the engine mounts. these are on weird location on the side of the block. Even if you get 4g63 it wont have these mounts

spdracr

Mounts have to be fabricated. But I still wanna make sure that my trans works with the swap

Mounts will have to fabricated because the 4g63T is missing one hole on the block. And the only transmission that fit are from the 87-88 5 speed 2.0.

R u positive about the info on the tranny fitting from those years ??

And with the motor mounts I know I have to do some fab work buy do I use the ones from the dsm or the mightymax ??

I'm not 100% percent sure about the years, but I have an 87 with an auto trans and I have a wide block. But for the mounts you need to use the mighty max mount and move the engine forward about 3 to 4 inches to make room for the thermostat housing.

a super clean 5 speed one came through my works d/t today, no apparent mods owned by a super old guy blew cig smoke right in my face. but they look so nice when clean. and sounded beefy

That's a well known video. There is a video of a red one on the dyno. Stock block. Worked head. 20g Turbo. And it dynod 440whp

Sweetness... I'd love to have one like that. But I can't even begin work on the Rage due to cash flow issues. Lol
