anyone have a good easy to follow tutorial on the best we to go about doin this for our cars? i want balck housing for my headlights, but i dont wanna for over a lot of money for it, and i would prolly have a hard time finding someone who wants to swap headlights. i know someone in here before did theirs themselves, just dont remember who it was

It involves opening up your headlights by heating them in the oven. I remeber that too, but I don't think a tutorial was ever put up. I've been wanting to do it for a long time, just scared of baking my lights. LOL

yea a few people painted their housings black or to match the color of their car. uhm you don't have to put ur headlights in the oven, you can use a heat gun too if u would like. kinda like how the 7g owners clear their corners. uhm, but yea you got to be careful on where u paint. if you paint in the wrong place, the light won't reflect and ur headlights won't be as bright

like everyone said, either use an oven or a heat gun, but personally i find the oven much easier https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

:edit:
hm... nobody did a tutorial... i guess i'll write one up later tonight if i got time

Anyont ever thing to just spraypaing that nightshade that people use on the tails lights for the headlight? I know your lights wouldn't be as bright but they won't be as bright anyways because your spraying on the reflective part of the housing thathelps illuminate the beam

i thought about using the nightshades b4 i did this but you get a different effect. using the night shades just puts a tint over the lenses and completely covers it up. you can't see inside the housings and it'll make the illumination so much more darker than if u painted the inside. i guess it depends on the look you're going for.

also painting the chrome didnt affect the brightness of my lights, remember the 2002's are like this also...(almost  ). if you look closely at the housing, theres 2 pieces of chrome, the main piece (in front, where i painted), and then the cone piece surrounding the bulb where majority of the light reflect from (that little bit of chrome where i didn't paint).

btw the way i painted mine is waay too illegal
i painted over the chrome where the blinker is, so theres nothing reflecting from the sides, if you look at the 2002's the area around the blinker is still chrome, but i think thats way too tacky, so i just painted mine the way i did. (depends on the cops in your area, i've has this for well over 1/2 a year and no ticket.... yet)

don't use nighshades on ur headlights. for the same reason i can't make sunglasses with an old pair of prescription glasses. nightshades when dry isn't clear but blurry. tahts not good for ur vision

Man, if you could write up a tutorial with the oven that doesn't screw up my headlights, I would be extremely grateful. I've been wanting to do this mod since I saw my first 2002, but was afraid of melting something or causing permanent damage to my headlights. Thanks.

taken from astig's projector light tutorial

Step 1: Dismantling the headlight

remove the headlight from the car. take the grille off first then followed by the headlights.
remove the bulbs and the rubber boot
clean up your headlight a bit since its probably filthy.
pre-heat your oven to 250 degrees your oven. DO NOT put the headlight inside just yet!
TURN OFF the oven after 10 minutes.
Put the headlight on a baking sheet and put it inside the oven. Leave it there for 10 minutes.
Take the headlight out. Using a flathead screwdriver pry the lens of the black plastic housing. Once you can get a grip on the lens and the housing, you can just use your hands to pry them apart. Be careful not to break the tabs that lock the lens and housing together.
Separate the plastic lens from the headlight trim (chrome on 99-01, black on 02+). There is one screw holding them together.

the painting part is the easy part im guessing
