After a slippery, icy drive on Sat morning to the airport, I parked in long term parking, drove all day yest and didn't notice the noise, but today I was pulling out of my complex which is on a slight hill, and was turning right and heard a pretty loud knocking noise, sounding like my axles creaking. Accelerated kind of hard when i got to a straightaway to see if i could still hear it and it was regular, turned left from a light and heard it again... any quick hints what I'm looking at? Definitely coming from beneath the car, sounds almost to be something clunking against a metal part of the undercarriage. I wanna jack the car up and look to see if I can see anything... no time for that til the weekend though

tie rod broken is my guess. Its hitting your wheel or suspension when youre taking turns.

My guess is CV joint for sure. Mine did that whe I accelerate from a light. I replaced them and noise was gone.

if a tie rod is broken wouldnt you not have steering? or maybe just the ball joint in the tie rod is broken.

oh damn. mis-spoke. I meant end link.

Yea, not a tie rod. I had my front endlink break once and it was banging things when i turned

Sounds like from what I have seen online it appears to be the CV joint, any rough costs for a Galant? I've seen from $130-500 online

It's the CV.. Definitley.. I don't think an end link would click.. Plus you can see your end links without taking the wheels off..

So I originally thought it was my muffler since I noticed it is about to fall off.. metal rusted right thru and it's dangling by the hangars. So I was like sweeeet easy fix. Then this morning I was driving about 50 mph, and my steering wheel started jerking HARD and car started pulling to the left extremely hard.. after slowing to about 25 mph it smoothed out again.. def sounds like CV joints

Just buy a whole new axle assembly and replace it yourself. It's fairly easy like Ray said.

New problem, I had to slam on my brakes HARD last night, locked tires, screeching etc. While i was sliding along i recall turning my wheel right and left then straightening it back out and letting off the brakes to coast as it was slightly left and my brain somehow told me to avoid the cliff/off ramp and cut it back onto the expressway.. now I have a thumping/rubbing noise at any speeds above 10mph, almost sounds like i have a flat spot on my tire and its thumping over on each rotation. Any ideas?
