G'day peoples.
Just looking for some advice about my galant..
3+ weeks ago my gearbox let rip and shat itself. So went ahead and replaced that.

2 weeks later and the engine has shot itself. (4g63 DOHC/Fwd).
Massive oil leak whilst driving.
Over the weekend i cracked open the rocker cover and found 7 of 8 rockers of 1 cam dispersed across the top of the head. Timing belt has semi shat itself. Had a go at rotating the crank.. and no go there.. She's quite well rooted.

So my galant is off road again and now im trying to decide what to do with it. I'm not sure wether i want just the straight 4g63 dohc again.

Apart from swapping the ECU, would a 4g63T strap in? With the fwd gearbox? Or any other suggestions as to what could be implanted instead?

Also on debate is working the 4g63 dohc. Bored to 2.2 litres? Cams, Throttle bodies?

Suggestions please!!

I've actually done the 4G63T swap in the galant already and it's working very nicely. The only problems I came across was making room for the intercooler piping. My FWD tranny bolts up fine w/ the new engine (but I suggest you find an aftermaket clutch). When I bought my engine, it came w/ the ecu and wiring harness. I had a problem w/ the CAS and the MAS wires but that can easily be solved.

Hope this helps

Marvellous...

Glad to hear it sounds like a fairly straight bolt on.
How have you found the performance between the 2 engines?

CAS / As in crank angle sensor?
MAS air flow?

Anything you want to give me a head up on?

Cheers,

-dave.

yes...
CAS = Crank angle sensor
MAS = Mass Airflow Sensor....

but my wiring harness came from japan(the guy ensured me this engine was a JDM but it wasn't the cyclone??? beats me...)

another problem me and my tech came across when installing the engine is where to put the intercooler.... right now i have it in front of my passenger side wheel well but the only problem is that the stock galant bumper doesn't have an air duct that guides air to the intercooler... and we had to weld though a part of the engine bay to make room for the UICP....

performance wise... huge difference...
Before I could barely keep up w/ Sir's.... Now i'm side by side w/ type R's and RSX typeS....

Good luck w/ the project and welcome to the sleeper club https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

sleeper club indeed. what ive always like about the car..

My old man was calling around looking for engines in brissy, and came across the term 'cyclone'. Exchange engine as long as it wasnt the 'cyclone' or something to that effect.

you would actually want the cyclone engine....
that's the JDM one and is 210hp while the normal ones are 190..195???

The two engines are the same except for the intake and exhaust manifolds.... just make sure it comes w/ the tranny

Swish.
Hooked up strut suspension. To replace my borked ECS.
Looks like im getting the engine w/4 Speed auto. Looking to keep running with the 5 speed man however.

Not 100% I can only assume its either mitsu or some basic aftermarket.
Coming out of a wrecked GSR. Just need to swap the ECS out..

Found out today missed out on the cyclone 4g63.. Spewin.. back to hunting for another engine...

Have you tried these guys in Adelaide.

http://www.japanesemotorsport.com.au

they seem reasonably priced, and a few of my mates are always ducking over there to grab bits and peices off them...they also do half cuts.

Have checked prices and availability with a few of the local jap import people with decent rep around Au.

Still trying to decide what to do, as im not flowing with the green and golds.
Hoping to find something in the private market but its looking really dry again, so it may well have to be sourced through an importer.
