I have been SEARCHING on here and I am ready to do a timing job on the 01 2.4. I was woundering if you guys have your own preference on what brand of belt to buy? I was looking a Gates timing kit any bad things about them?
Also I was woundering, how do I get the wright tension on the timing belt and the balancing belt? And how do I adjust this tension with the bearings?
First timing job so go easy on me.:icon_eek:

using the tool and a torque wrench is the right way, as explained in the tutorial. The OEM belt only costs about $25 more than the gates belt, I would say just get the OEM one.

x2 on the OEM belt.
the tension on the balancing shaft belt is just set by the pulley - you'll read that in the service manual.
the tension on the timing belt itself is set by using two torque wrenches (one in inch-pounds, another in foot-pounds), and two mitsubishi special tools (you'll read about them in the service manual, as well). you might not need the one that looks like a long bolt, but you definitely need the one that looks like a chunk of metal with two pins.
