Headlight Harness

Hello all:

I got these 9006 12v 80w super white lights for my car, after I installed them I smelled something burning or overheating. Well both harnes were very hot and smelled like plastic melting. I read about changing the harness somewhere here, but my question is is it only changing the harness or is it better to replace the whole cable run.

I duno which post you read but theres a cable rewire kit you can buy for like 30 bucks that replacs the wires and harness. Your lights will be much brighter with the rewire. Search the archives for the link.

Ive seen before and after photos from 2 guys on another group im a member of and there is a visible difference, these dudes are major contributers to the group so I dont doubt their information. Hope it works well for you.

hey rfpa1 how long was it till you noticed the melting just wondering if im ok with waiting a week untill my re-wire kit comes in or put my old bulbs in and wait

Thanks for the information.

By the way, I noticed the smell in about 10 minutes. It was dark so I also was going to aim the lights. One of them is loose because the piece that holds it broke some time back.

Every time my harness burns out I just replace them, Heres a tip.

When u install your harnesses use wire clips to attach them, it makes it easier to install and if they burn out u just unclip and attach the new harness. Way better than using black tape. :roll:

do you 7G guys use H4 like we 8Gs too? if so u can just buy (SPW) harness. makes your lights a lil bit brighter than stock harness! thats what I noticed when my harness finally gaved up w/ my PIAA bulbs for over a year.

nope we have 9005 and 9006 hi lows. so what do you suggest for that?

Well, I got the harness from suvlights.com, now I will see if I can install it this weekend.

Ok guys, now it got me.

How do I install the suvlights harness, if our lights have the cover in the back and I do not see any hole I can pass the cables by.

I came up with these 3 scenarios:

1) cut open the side of the light and make a hole big enought to pass the connectors. Then use a glue gun and a piece of the plastic that I removed to cover the hole and hope that water does not get in.

2) cut the harnes cable, and make a small hole under the cover and pass the cable ,then put the connectors back on, then seal hole.

3) install and do not use the cover and put a ballon over the hole to cover .

4) sell my harness and do not use it. Keep living this way.
