Ok so my VIS hood fits like crap. I know of people having to cut the underside to clear the strut towers, I would do that and then re-fiberglass the holes and shape them for clearance but I dont feel that its fair to have to do that to a hood I just spent $500 on. I spoke with VIS and they said they have never had any complaints of the hood or trunk not fitting correctly. They said they never heard of ANYONE having to cut the underside of the hoods for clearance. I need everyones help on this one, I need pics of your hoods and trunks that dont fit and if your hood does fit, I need pics of the underside showing you had to cut out it for proper clearance. Please send me a few pics of the whole car too so I can show them this is on more then one car. Please post the link to the pics here or Email me the pics at [email protected]

Maybe if we come together on this and show them the problems they will correct them in the future so nobody else will have to deal with this issue. Thanks.

I will take pics in the morning and email them to you. I have had 2 CF Hoods and had to do it to both.

I do want to add, once I cut the underside for the strut towers to clear the hood fits perfect.

My VIS monster hood has that problem too, it fits now but only after I cut some out, I'll snap some pics tonight and send them to you.

BS... I told them about the problem when I was an actual vendor of VIS... they where fully aware of the problem but there was nothing they could do because the hood was based off of a JDM hood and the cost of a new mold would be too much... My POC name was Sunny... I doubt he is going to remember me but tell him my name (Jason Nickel) with DNA Racing from like five years ago... see if that jogs his memory...

and tell them the problem started when they switched the clear coat too... these new hoods from VIS are alot more fragile then the first generation hood I have on my car... also I did not have to cut anything on it but it does rub on the struts... not bad but I can take a picture tomorrow showing the black marks it leaves on the car...

For the guys that replied, thanks for your help. Please email me the pics as soon as you can, I would like to send a a group of pictures to VIS on monday and get them to listen. Im just tired of all the false advertising with their 100% bolt on OEM fit BS, because I have never heard of anything they make fitting correctly without modification.

kinda off topic but carbon by design doesnt make anything for our cars and if not maybe we should come together as a group and see if they can make some hoods and trunks for us. i know i had a cf hood from them on my srt4 and it fit perfect with no modifications or anything.

I believe Noel may be making some trunks in cf and can already do hoods in cf for people. Go to him great prices and service and he is a trusted member of TGC. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/forumdisplay.php?f=122. Okay I looked he doesnt have anything of the sort yet, but most of the members interested in CF Hood or Trunk will trust him most of all since a few scams happened lately.

So now this thread can get back on topic. Brian did you talk to Jason about this I believe he has VIS I may be mistaken though.

^Are those pics of the VIS hood hitting the strut towers? I never had that problem with my Seibon hood. I wonder if the mold is different....

Could it be that the VIS is for the JDM 8g which has a different suspension ?

thats exactly the problem. They advertise two OEM hoods but they only make one. The box says 97+ Galant which means its def JDM fitment.

the trunk will lift up on a carbon fiber trunk if you use the oem trunk springs. you have to fabricate a stopper to remove the flex. the steel trunks can take the extra stretch because of its density but carbon fiber is alot lighter. when you look in the trunk you will see that the oem spring will stop at one point when the trunk is closed but will keep going causing flex. a home depot bracket will will fix that.

Not really that simple. What your saying makes sense in theory but doing it is a different story. You need to limit the upward travel or tension on the hinge when the trunk is closed, using as stop will work but then how would you open the trunk? The stop would interfere. Im in the process of making seperate spring tensioners for each hinge very much like the JDM 8g uses. Once I get it all welded up its only a matter of testing different springs to find out which works the best.

ok seemed logical for that to be done i didnt watch to see if there was an upward motion also.

my hood is VIS and I don't have any of these fitment issues
