Alternator tutorial?

Gonna try to save some loot and replace my alty on my own, would like a tutorial specific for an 8G rather than the generic ones I am reading online if available. Thanks in advance, any pix avail would be cool too

edit: never mind I just went to your garage and saw you have an I4. Let me check out the FSM

okay it doesn't look too hard. It appears that you have to loosen your drive belt first (PS and AC) which only requires loosening 2 bolts on the tensioner pulley. Then once you remove that you have access to the belt for the alternator. Take that off, then you can remove the alternator by removing its 2 mounting bolts.

At least it appears that simple.

take off the negative terminal FIRSTTTTT
loosen the tension on the belt
remove belt from pulley and let it hang
remove the 'tensioner' which is just two bolts in a little block
remove the lower swivel bolt
and remove the alt.
i think u gotta take it out the top and bend your ac lines out of the way a bit.

then reverse that for installation. i had a few alt issues with the high outputs and took out and put in a diff alt like 5 times in a day....

I did one about changing the drive belts if you follow that you can adapt it to take off the alty.

k attempting this today.. for clarification

One of the steps is loosening the tension on the belt.. do I do that from here?

the used alty has some cut wires on the other side of the harness.. ???
Anyone recommend a breaker bar or should be able to get by without one?

I'd bring a breaker bar just in case. When I changed the alternator in my 02 I needed one, but that could be just because the owner before me power housed over-tightening on EVERYTHING he did..

One bit I will tell you is if you are looking for a slightly stronger alternator you can use OEM 2004-2005 3G ones. They are 95 amps compared to our 85amps and I believe 1 dollar more or there abouts.
