so i was driving and i studdard then died.. the car turns over but does not fire dash lights came on (oil, battery, ses, etc.) so i know that i do need new ciol mpacks thinks to me reading up on other ppls threads they have posted, would this be the problem or is it something worse? i also noticed that the last day or so i have heard i noise that is unusual, sounded to me like something was rubbing on one of the pulleys the noise went with the rpms of the engine.. could this be an issue? i am in a really big bind not having my car this is my only form of transportation i cannot work without it. please help me! :icon_cry:

when you try to start does it gives a chugga chugga sound or a whirling whine sound>?

my G died last week. check ALL the fuses mine died the same way and it was doing the same as yours. if the fuses are fine it may be the timing belt.

Replacing blown fuses won't cure a engine knock problem or other noise. If it threw the timing belt the engine may as well be considered junk, and thereby replaced. Not necessarily that it can't be repaired, it is just more expensive than finding a decent used engine with half the mileage for less than replacing the timing belt in his engine.

Change the coilpacks, plug wires and spark plugs. That should restore the Johnny 8G.

i didnt see the engine knocking part... just breezed threw the reading... my bad... its just that my G died almost exactly like his minus the noise though..

so i did the coils and nothing i came to the conclusion that there is not any power coming to the coil on my passenger side any ideas there is power to the other, but it is not starting still, so i have ruled out the coils wires and plugs, what next? now its frustrating me to not know

Corey2kG

djhah
04-27-2010, 11:55 AM

djhah
04-27-2010, 11:58 AM

try switching the coils around and see if the misfired cylinder will jump, as well. for that, reset the ecu, switch coils, drive so the CEL comes on again and read the new code.

djhah
04-29-2010, 12:10 AM
i did switch coils with new ones i tried resetting ecu still not firing on the passenger side coil no matter how i swapped them around i am at a loss here i am having to borrow a family members car for work, before i got that it was a bike i haven't rode a bike in years.

come on guys i know some one on here knows what ny problem is if i can keep from taking it to the shop i will i hate getting ripped off by having some on doing something i can do myself, i just dont know much on electronics of cars outside of wiring up a stereo and system

varroa

well i would say that if the coil is not getting power, then something is wrong with your wiring. try to get that universal meter and test the wires going to that coil.

Read the first response again.

What does the car do specifically when you start it?

djhah

it turns over like normal i am just not getting power on the passenger side harness going to the coil pack.... that is were i am at in my diagnoses if i have done everything right, as far as this time.

doesnt sound so good. are you gonna tear it apart and check for more damage?

djhah
05-04-2010, 02:18 PM
yeah thats the plan unfortinatly

Corey2kG
05-04-2010, 02:31 PM
correct me if im wrong but if the timing belt snapped doesnt the timing jump killing the engine? and cause for a new engine.

djhah
05-04-2010, 02:48 PM
in most cases that is very true hopefully not in my case if so i am going to go bigger if i can afford it twin turbo v6 baby

Corey2kG
05-04-2010, 02:49 PM
hell yeah lol thats alot of work

djhah
05-04-2010, 02:59 PM
very true but it would be worth it in the long run lol

Corey2kG
05-04-2010, 03:07 PM
definately i would do it if i had the funds. but i would probably wanna speed lol.

djhah
05-04-2010, 03:15 PM
yeah funds are a big deal and speeding might be a problem

Corey2kG
05-04-2010, 03:23 PM
oh yeah especially here in mass cops could be jerks lol so i guess ill just keep her stock v6 lol.

djhah
05-04-2010, 03:58 PM
i have at this time stock i4 it sucks when it comes to horsepower lol

dGALANTc
05-04-2010, 09:42 PM
twin turbo sounds good, always... hope everything works out for u and the G. i love my G but my 2.4 is no tt motor and it makes me sad often...lol

Conjee
05-04-2010, 09:49 PM
Hope the best for your motor, but upgrading is always more exciting. My timing belt snapped around 78k miles when I was driving around 30 mph. Towed it to a mechanic and had them replace valves and put a new belt on. Engine still running strong at 132k miles.

djhah
05-04-2010, 10:04 PM
the twin turbo only comes on the v6 if i stick with the i4 it will be single turbo which is ok also. if all i need is a belt and new valves then i will be happy maybe i will go ahead and go to dohc head maybe cheaper from scrap yard? hopefully so

djhah
05-05-2010, 12:05 AM
so thinks to this site i just found out i would have to do a whole lot of bs to swap to v6 so i4 turbo would be the way to go if i have to get a new motor.

dGALANTc
05-05-2010, 01:10 PM
you should do the dohc swap too

djhah
05-05-2010, 01:27 PM
that is what i want to do if i am able to find a head for cheap

djhah
05-06-2010, 04:53 PM
so luckly my motor is good since it died at a low idle at a stop sign it didnt bend any valves bust any pistons etc so now its cleaned up and on its way back together unforatatly at this time i cannot do the dohc swap the only one i found is to much for my budget so ill have to put it off for now:(

djhah
05-06-2010, 10:56 PM
i pulled the head and inspected internals
