Thats a long history that started back in February of 1999 if I remember right. We have gone through 4 to 5 forums starting at Yahoo. I wonder if that is still active. We have www.thegalantcenter2.com and a few other sites out there. There was a time when there was nothing at all for the Galant and now we have so much aftermarket support that it is crazy. I don't really know what you are asking?

umm... i got my '99ESV6 back in july or august of 1999... at that time there were no parts for our cars. we had to custom fabricate everything or jack things from other cars. in the search for anything that would fit our cars i found BGR's galantcenter early in 2000 in YAHOO GROUPS; i was allready dropped w/ wheels and JDM tails at that point not knowing that anyone else had any interest in this car! there were thousands of posts on our yahoo group (all in one long ass thread). then i think we had our first meet at ROAD RACE ENGINEERING (LA) in august 2000 along w/ CLUB 3G and TEAM UNISON where i met BGR, GALANTESP, POLOPRINCESS and DJPLAY and i got my RRE strut brace put on w/ their help! there are some other old timers that i most definitely am 4getting but back in those days, i remember TOC, RICAN, DANJ, MOCHANGES and DESIGNMANFX posting, who all predated me i believe on the boards (forgive me since i know i forgot a bunch of u guys, i'm getting old). then the next generation of guys came in including REDGALANT and PINOY (as well as many others... again forgive me for not naming everyone, old brain cells!). around the time of that meet, BGR decided to build a dedicated forum for galant owners and the Site https://www.thegalantcenter.com ('https://www.thegalantcenter.com') was born. since then we have had at least 5 versions of this board... alot of information is gone (it's nobody's fault, it just happens) but since there are so many new things happenning, it makes up for it. thousands of galant owners and other auto enthusiasts have learned and contributed to the collective knowledge held within these boards, and that's what this was all about. a way for us to get together even though we're hundreds and thousands of miles apart, to share what we have, know, and love.

thank you BGR and everyone that gave what they did.

this is why i am loyal to TGC.

I remember how I ran into TheGalantCenter. I just bought my car. I ran into Rican219 and thought that was the tightest Galant in the world. I emailed him asking how did he get the mirrors under his hood. He directed me to the Yahoo site and from then on I was hooked. For the longest I just sat in the background learning and reading all the posts. Every now and again I would post but for the most part I stayed in the shadows. One day I asked Rich if it was okay to start a chapter because I had gotten the idea from the Supra meet they hold every year. I read the article and they discussed there chapters and how hey meet every year in Vegas. So many Supra's attend that they fill the parking lots at the casino they attend. Then one day Rich told me that I had been promoted to Moderator. That was one of the proudest days for me and one of the main reasons I stay TGC loyal (TGC 4 Life). Here BGR put trust in to a guy that just lerked in the background. One of the other reason's that I stay TGC loyal is the fact that Rich is a great guy. Whatever you need he is willing to give. This guy would give you the shirt of his back if he could. I got to respect that.

I just bought the Galant, was playing Gran Turismo and the VR-4 fascinated me. A few months later the Galant was wrecked, got a V6, did some searching and ran into the Yahoo days of TGC. Been with it ever since.

Well Said Reelax!!

I came about to the site through i believe a old moderator from either NewCelica.Org or Club 3G can't remember which exactly doesn't matter now i found the TGC and been hooked ever since....heck i remember when i had more posts than Allan back in the day https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif ....that didn't last long though hahaha...

Man I'll tell you though...over time there have been many changes to the TGC like has been said many people have come and gone but the diehards from the early days will never leave.

We are all indebted to each other the wealth of knowledge on this board is amazing...simply amazing.

I remember the frustrations of sifting throught the Yahoo posts, but it was worth it though. My little screen name is a part of my Yahoo email/name, and I also remember that it didn't take long for the photo section to get full as well. Oh the memories. I posted something not to long ago when i noticed that there was 666 members at the time. Anyways.....

the word definitely made its way around. i came across TGC while i was browsing www.lowrider.com

i was looking at their gallery, and noticed a galant that was slammed to the ground and the only link it had was tgc. that was back in 2001. from then until now, this site and its members have come a long way.

I found TGC back in early 2001 doin a search on the net for Galant parts, came across the link to TGC and have been here ever since. I was kinda like OutlawzCC being that I hid in the shadows for a while just reading all the info that I had been looking for. This site is the greatest thing since sliced bread.....

:scary: Dam reelax, i can't believe you didn't mention me. I have been around on the TGC board since May 01, long before most members. I was a member on the yahoo board, I believe back in April 01.

I remember the big topic in the 7G board was white faced gauges, Not indiglo, but just white Vinyl. Geez, TGC has come a long way. We have had our problems though, I remember in a few month span, we had like 3 seperate boards.

I don't remember exactly when I became a Mod, but it was on the first board, maybe around spring 02? I think I was part of the "second batch" to be moved to mod status.

And I found TGC by finding Chris' (GalantESP) website, I emailed him to say nice Galant and he responded by telling me about the Yahoo club, joined that, then moved to TGC in May 01.

Well I was the one who started the Bay Area Chapter. If I remeber right it was us and a couple of other chapters that started at the same time. You will have to to get with Rich on that one. It started with Me, Whips-n-chains and BGR. Then came along Nick (300Dragonle). At one time we had like 40 members then it went all the way down to 5. Where at 20 the last time I looked.

some of us (hopefully more than before) give donations to rich so that he can maintain this site. the only real thing that you have to do is ask first. let rich know what you want to do, and he'll say yes or no. simple

i may not have a lot of posts but i've known tgc (aka BigRich's 2K Galant Center) since 12/17/1999 a week after i got my 00 Galant.

if any of you are interested, the old yahoo board is still archived at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bigrichs2kgalantcenter ('http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bigrichs2kgalantcenter')

that's where i found out about the exact date i joined tgc. my yahoo id back then was "dyaey" (jay).

here's bgr's very first post on the yahoo board:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Hello and welcome to my Galant Center. I own a 2K Galant V6 ES. At this current time I do not have any pics of my car but will post them as soon as I take some. So far I have posted some of my favorite pics of the New Galant that I've found on the Net. These pics are from other countries, like Japan, UK, S. America and New Zealand. I also posted some pics of my Car, courtesy of Mitsucars.com and Adobe Photoshop. (I own a Patriot-Red Galant so this is what my car looks like) with different sets of wheels so I can see what my car will look like once I buy some 18" rims and drop it a little. So, feel free to post messages about your Galant or if you have questions about the Galant, post them here. I'm also currently in contact with another Country in hopes of getting the front facia of their countries Galant and having it put on mine. I'll post my upgrades but will probably take some time considering I ain't made of money.</div>

hey, i'm 16 and cant drive that far for meets, and i see alot of galants around. Lately i've been seeing more and more g-rides on chrome and with systems. I was wondering if anyone on here had a city-wide chapter. i would be interesting in starting a Greensboro, NC Chapter. It would/could include the piedmont area (Greensboro, Highpoint, Winston-Salem) but either way, it would only get us more members here and in the Carolina Chapter. Speaking of that, i put in a request to be admitted to the Carolina Chapter a while back and never got my info up..... anyway, let me knoe what u guys think about this idea. There's gotta be someone out here!!!

i remember those times..... the only jdm 7g galant i know back in those days was mitsupiet.

almost everybody in tgc long ago either have a very nice usdm 7g or usdm 8g.

the V6 6A12s or V6 6A13s and jdm garnishes and oem bodykits were a rare sight.

now, i see members from asia and europe with similar galants.
i love the diversity of tgc.

more boost to bgr and tgc! https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

I was public enemy number one for awhile cause i had an Si, and everyone here would bash Honda's, especially Civics, and i took offense to it, that all Civics were rice... :x

then there was the whole breakdonw with Clay and BGR, and some other dude, that turned into a big power struggle, so Clay and the other dude, started their own site, that gets little to no traffic...

October 2001 for me. I got my car in January 2000 and ran across the Yahoo board while I was searching the internet for an ignition upgrade. I had an intake and was desparately looking for parts. I found Chris at GDI first and he sent me over to Yahoo. Then I found the fountain of knowledge. I just found one of my first posts....Famous last words.

"If anyone else is thinking of upgrading, www.apexperformance.com sells magnecor wires straight from the factory for 15% off Magnecore's list prices. Can't wait to get 'em. Can't imagine what could be so hard about
installation, theyre just spark plug wires. Thanks again for the help."

I got my '99 in May of '99 and joined the Yahoo board Dec. 9th 2000. My original plans for the Galant was to pimp it out with chrome rims and tint, but TGC definitely changed that.

Here is my first ever post on the Yahoo board:

I just purchased a 2001 Galant and I am ready for
the next move in aftermarket parts but I do not know
what I should do next. So I am hoping that joining
this club with all the experince you guys seem to
posses I need your suggestions. I have installed a
custom FlowMaster Exhaust and tinted the windows as well
as installed a Kenwood deck with two 12" Rockford
speakers and amp. But know I am ready to lower it and buy
rims. Eibachi and Progressive which do you suggest and
after lowering it will 18" rims still fit our should I
stick with 17's. Also could anyone tell me if the
aftermarket parts for the 2000 will fit the 2001. I am
getting mixed messages about that. I will appriciate any
help. And could anyone please tell me if there are sway
bars for the
Galant.

Talk about a newbie question. Will 2000 parts fit a 2001. I could have slapped myself with the response from the "Galant Gods"

Almost 2 years later still no body kit https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif There were not many 7G owners at the time! I haven't seen anyone else do this but the guy at
my dealership told me that the injen cold air intake
for the eclipse v6 3g gt (same engine as galant v6)
fits on the galant. so the dealership installed it for
me (saves the warranty because they did it) removes
the entire air box and ram unit the big k&n filter
sits behind the left side foglight in front of the
tire! with the car lowered 2", sits very low to the
ground just behind the side of the bumper. if you live
in regions w/ bad weather you probably dont want
this. cost me around $250. it sounds great especially
above 5000 rpm (screams).

ive done some work on
the galant since i got it in '99. an early shoot is
in the club albums. Â*
</div>

i'm pretty sure i had the first CAI in a US 8G since this part just came out at the time! it was the INJEN 1st gen 1 piece cold air predating the AEM CAI. i replaced it when the battery post rubbed a hole in the side in a year. damn that seems like so long ago.

The only site that was really lost is the 2nd board, when I used XMB and accidentally deleted the database. That was the forum board that had sub-categories. I have the entire 1st site, including forum board (the old UBB board), saved on my hard drive. Some of the info is corrupted, like board color and pictures, but the rest is still readable. This was when I first started to move TGC from Yahoo to a CGI based board.

It's not fully functional but you can read the posts. I just uploaded forum 4, which is the General Post forum. You can view the first 11 files but after that once you select a file (#12 on) you'll have to click on the Edit -> Select All (at the top of your web browser) to highlight the text. There's 62 html files and I got tired of editing after the 1st 11 files.

You can view them here:

that's it,, thats all no other deep info,, like how it started,, when,,, how,, and all that stuff,, stuff that they saw on The History Channel

My bad. I've had personal issues I needed to take care of over the past few years so there are many posts like yours that I missed but eventually will catch up with.

The Galant Center was born from the old Mitsubishi Usenet newsgroup, alt.autos.mitsubishi - you can probably still find it using a newsreader like Outlook Express. Anyhow, three guys, Rich(BGR), Mohammed(Mochanges), and Arnulfo(TOC or TheOneCameleon), would share info on their new Mitsubishi Galants, which would later be referred to as the 8G, for 8th Generation. Up until this time, I knew of no other site dedicated strictly to the Galant. I believe there was a DSM site, and other Mitsubishi sites, but nothing like TGC. Mochanges was the first person that I knew of that cleared the front headlights, using some needlenose pliers and other tools. Me, I came up with the idea of taking apart the stock airbox and flipping upside down so that you could have an open air ram intake. (I later discovered that the 3G Eclipse Spyder strut tower bar fit our cars, too). Arnulfo did something crazy like removing his CAT and getting a different CAM gear to increase his HP in his I4.

The newsgroup seem very ineffective in regards to posting information for our cars, so I volunteered to start up a Yahoo club site - BigRich's 2K Galant Center. That site is still available, but is littered with spam. I launched that site on 12.08.99. This was the start of what would later become known as The Galant Center, which I felt should be a place for all generation Galants to come together - hence the moniker, Home of the Mitsubishi Galant. At that same time, a sister club, known as Club3G was building momentum on the Yahoo club website as well, and eventually branched out to become it's own internet website called Club3G.org. Club3G was bringing in about 3 to 5 new members on their club site for every 1 new member on our Yahoo site. {{I was keeping track}}

One thing that I took pride in was that I would stay up for countless hours searching the Internet for anything pertaining to the Galant. Anything I could find, I would post up on the club site so that if someone "new" was to come along and have questions that probably already were asked, they only needed to look at one place for the answer, TGC. I came across several sites in Asia and eventually over time, I started seeing other Galants being posted on car sites (I forgot the name but it was similar to Cardomain.com). I then actively "recruited" every Galant owner I came across on the internet and in person, by leaving a TGC card on their door or window. Many other pioneers made it to TGC on their own and shared their knowledge, like Reelax. He was the first person I know of that had JDM head and taillights on his US 8G - but the man cut his springs (I think he had H&R springs?)! He did all this prior to coming to TGC.

Through all of this, the ball was now rolling and picking up steam and we were getting too large for the Yahoo group. I took it upon myself to finance hosting the site on various webhosts until eventually it became too large for one person to handle. Thanks to many generous members and vendors, they donated funds to keep TGC afloat, but eventually, this was still not enough as we were eating up too much bandwidth. I eventually let Burthold host TGC on his server at home, until something unfortunate happened. TGC now resides in the hands of VegasMatt and Proto. There's a lot of other stuff to tell, but it's like 01:48 in the morning... I hate to drop a few names like I did above and not show respect to all the other pioneers on TGC, but I've been away too long from TGC to remember everyone's names (excluding the moderators - I know most of you guys - either met in person or talked on the phone).

I have this photo printed out on a 8 x 10 and hanging in my office at work.
Well, I got to get my G running again. I have some hurdles to jump before I can get her back on the road.
1) Buy rotors (~$190)
2) Have rotors and 1 caliper installed (~$200)
3) But before that, pay registration ($298), Smog (~$50?) and insurance (Geico - ~$200 first payment)
4) Oil Change & tune up. The car has been sitting for almost 1 year and I haven't changed the oil since 02.13.05! I know I need a new timing belt, too and I have never gotten ANY of the scheduled maintenance done and I have about 100K on the engine. So... I'm in a pretty bad spot right now. I won't be able to get this done at the earlier until mid next month as I'm trying to straighten out my credit at the same time, too.

 Yeah I haven't used that screen name in awile. We should kick it before you take off from Sac. I was just up there for a Rottweiler National dog show in Rancho Cordova. See if we can't round up the old Chapter and do another photo shoot or something.

I won't be able to get this done at the earlier until mid next month as I'm trying to straighten out my credit at the same time, too.

its a shame that your car has been sitting for a year Rich. are there any new pictures of it? i love the paint on it man.... props.. :D

Hmm... I guess I didn't submit my reply to you this morning.

Anyhow, thanks - the most recent pics I took are from 2 years ago but the quality is real bad - old cell phone cam (my new cell phone cam is much better).

I basically had to buy another set of wheels because some rookie dumb ass at USA Tires fucked my Velox wheels up. He tightened down the wheel balance do-hicky too much where the threads for the center cap wouldn't fit any more. Then the jerk-off tried hammering the center cap in! I was besides myself with anger I was about to kill the guy when I went in to grab the owner and said, "Look what fuck your man is doing here!" The owner wanted me to stop by his other store and was going to work on the thread for me, but I said fuck it, you guys ain't wasting any more of my time and left. I tried looking for more of the same wheel, but they were discontinued. That's cool, the other wheels were curbed anyhow. I bought them strictly for that and they served their purpose.

"Look what fuck you man is doing here!"

did they pay for the damage to the rim?

Sorry, I was in the middle of editing  Kind of sounds like the Asian acrobat guy on Ocean's Eleven.

No, they didn't pay for shit and like a dummy, I just squashed it.

haha thats what i was thinking too

aww man they would have had to pay, i worked for a sears auto center one of the guys in the back scratched the lip on a brand new m3  and we had to pay for a new rim lol

Not sure if you've been down there, but those tire shops on Stockton Blvd are shady. You always take a risk by going down there. What was I to do? I had to get back to work and the last thing I wanted to do is take more time off during my day to have someone else "attempt" at repairing the end of the thing where the threads are.

It's like when you need a ring resized and they put the ring over a graduated rod which eventually spreads the metal to make the hole larger - that's what they did to my wheel. Yeah, they should have paid.

Nope, I couldn't find it. I wonder if we made it in any of these pics? I couldn't get the site to load the pic for now:

Edit -
Nevermind. I was looking at the cache. The page loads in the cache view, but not the pics.

Was threatened by a disgruntled person who was banned from TGC. In fact if I remember right this guy called his house and threatened his family, at least that is what he said.

Pretty much the same stuff we deal with current members now. He just got tired of having to deal with everyones BS.

And people wonder why we try to keep the forums under control.

Since there are a lot of people that contributed to TGC's rich history, I feel like I should add my little bits of people in the middle years (my first year) that the OGs glossed over.
When I first found TGC, the people who were most influential at the time were:

Cali: hottest Galant ever
Peanotation: galant performance guru
Reelax: Galant style guru
Pinoyesv6: Galant know it all
Jetblack: what I wanted my Galant to look like
qnzmostwanted: first guy i met from tgc

these were the most memorable people to me in my TGC timeline

Yeah I remember searching threw the net and running into the Yahoo TGC that was back in the days. That was when i had my 02' 8g fresh off the lot, i was 18yrs old. Now at 24 yrs old i have my second 8g and loving it. TGC has helped many and has done so much for me. So i am also loyal to TGC. I will always repp. Thank you TheGalantCenter

Funny how my name comes up when this board first started. I'm glad I was a part of one of the first few who started modding and work with Manufacturers to develop parts. I just bought a 2001 8G and plan to revive my car stay tuned!
