View Full Version : Gauge Cluster Swap

The clear plastic cover on my car's gauge cluster has a crack in it, and I'm thinking it is probably cheaper just to buy another used cluster from eBay.

I thought while I was at it, given that the gauges in my '02 GTZ have the blue-green face, which I beleive all 02-03 Galants had, I prefer the black ones (S7?) from the 1999-2001 models.

I've been searching about swapping the gauge cluster from a 02-03 spec Galant to a 99-01, and I found some information about it, but I couldn't tell from this if it was successful or not. Is it possible to put 99-01 spec gauges in my 02 GTZ, and will I be able to swap the odometer over?

Thanks for reading.

Yes it is possible, as long as you get a V6 then the redline will be same as well. Mounts and wires are the same and to swap odos you unscrew the little computer I believe its 2 screws on the back and swap them out.

That is from when I installed S7 gauges on TheRevs car so you can follow the instructions. The white thing in the picture is what you swap

Ray used to have a video tutorial on this as well, but here is the link to the description

just as an FYI, the '99-'01 GTZ has white face gauges (the ESv6 and LS had the blac faces). you might want to find the white version since you have a GTZ. at the least, make sure you get a V6 set as the redline on the i4 is different.

The v6 and i4 rev gauge are calibrated different so reving at 3000 rpm would translated it as 8000 rpm on an i4 gauge.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies, and for the info about i4/v6 differences.

Thanks Reelax, I wasn't aware about the GTZ having white gauges, I'll be looking out for a set of these.

Wow, thanks very much. I bought them, and I am very happy I wont be looking at those blue/green gauges anymore!

So just to be sure. A 99-01 (4 cyl) gauge cluster with fit right into an 02-03 (4 cyl) position? I can just plug it up and walla?

the circuit board from 99-01 is a bit different than 02-03, I have an 03 V6 and i swapped to 99-01 V6 cluster, without any modifications, some of the lights are different, i.e when i opened the door, the seat belt light would go on, and unplugging seat belt would turn the low fuel light. or smth like that.

to fix that, i took the circuit board from my stock, and slapped it on the 99-01 cluster, works great now.
