My 8G has 127K miles so due for timing belt change. I'm lazy for this repair so I took it to a trusted mechanic that I have used for over 15 years. While he was in there I had him change the cam and crank seals, I had a small leak and the milage was high. He did the job perfect but the rear cam seal was leaking a LOT now. He took it all back apart and installed OEM seals instead of aftermarket thinking this would work since the OEM seals are a little harder. Still leaked.

It turned out that the seal had worn a shallow groove in the cam and since the rear valve cover did not have a PVC valve the pressure was higher and pushed out the oil. These guys are brilliant. They knew a performance shop and was able to get a "seal saver" made exactly for the 3.0. It was a few mil thick ring that had to be heated and then fitted over the cam to restore the surface. A lot of work but less labor and cheaper than changing a cam.
