Ok, my 8g is at about 140,000 miles and I have been recently getting the oil light. I had done a oil change in May (about a month ago maybe a month and a half) and I knew I should have oil. Like a bone head I just read on here and assumed that I had bad oil pressure sender. then I finally decided to err on the side of caution and check my oil.

NOTHING SHOWED ON DIPSTICK, SO I FILLED IT AND IT WENT UP BY THE QUART I ADDED. glad I checked it. Good news, no more oil light. Bad News perhaps I had a leaking seal.

Leaking Seal: I have never had any oil spots under my car, but upon looking I have bolt around camshaft pulley that are dark and oily. So maybe its a slow leak. Thankfully I have no squeal on my belt and it is still bone dry.

So I looked on here, on the evo forum, everywhere else online, all data.com, my chiltons and haynes, my service manual from a thread on here to get down the procedure of at least replacing cam seal and at most taking out all belts getting down to oil pump.

Judgment: At this point I will decide to diagnose this thing, for now I bought some carquest fully synthetic to go with synthetic oil i run (eneos). I will put another quart in and see if I get a reading on the oil dipstick, then check it often to see if level gets lower. Second, I already have a sandwich adapter and I will add an electronic oil pressure sender from glowshift. (I am aware that glowshift is a bit suspect but 1. specometer is hard to get in the US. 2. cost is low. 3. I figure any reading is better than none for oil pressure I can at least see if my pressure is rising or falling.)

I have done a compression check right before my last oil change and it was (13.5,14.0,14.1,14.1 BAR) or 195, 203, 204, 204 PSI. (any insight would be appreciated, i wonder why cyl 1 is low.

Once I get my gauge and install it I will take pressure reading with new full oil and watch what happens over the month and try to keep you all informed. Also If it comes to opening up the cam I will have my gf take pics to help out wit diagnosis.

Please post any help, advice, criticism, that you have on this issue, thanks.

already and update but i was able to get vdo gauge and sender and k&n oil filter for 58 shipped

Ok So i took off my camshaft cover b/c of collect oil on one of the back bolts after: Here are some pictures about doing this, its pretty easy but you might be hard for space taking the bolt out that's at the front most part of the engine. so your coolant overfill tank actually slide right up so you can get a ratchet with extension on the bolt just FYI.

this is the bolt

This is the piece of metal the coolant overfill tank sits on just slide the tank straight up and it will come out see. first pick is the piece of metal second is coolant tank taken off

OK back to issue. So once the cover was off I noticed I had oily buildup around the back part of the cover so oil was getting on my belt somewhere and then coming off around the cabin side of the cam cover. Also the camgear looked fine and no oil residue was seen so I will be jacking the car up to look for the leak down low.

Here is the inside of the cam cover, I dunno if you can see the oil much
