Hey guys.....99 V6

140,000 miles

I've had ticking lifters before...used Seafoam...fixed it.

Also had the valve seals replace at maybe 95,000 miles ??

OK, The other day started to notice what I thought was ticking lifters again. Continued to put about 500 miles on it. Then added some Seafoam. Drove another 100 or so, ticking did not stop. I checked the oil and there was none to be seen on the dipstick!!

I had to change the oil last night to get the seafoam out of there. This morning the ticking was not quite as noticable.

So, would a ticking lifter cause me to burn oil?

Or maybe the ticking sound was because I was so low on oil?

Or maybe they are seperate issues?

I'm gunna get under it and start looking for oil leaks. DOn't have any oils spots on the garage floor. The engine has oily residue on it here and there....nothing that would look out of the ordinary for a 140,000 mile motor tho....I think.

WHat do you guys think? Any words of wisdom or experience? I sure would like to put another 50,000 on the old girl....

Oil level is low buddy...check for any leaks of oil. When you hear the lifters ticking do not use sea foam which after using seafoam and putting couple of miles on the car, you have to get an oil change. Make sure you have enough oil and check for leaks.
