Hey guys, I have not been as active on the site lately (too many things going on); but I was wondering if anyone came out with the solution for doing the 5 speed swap on the 2003 model year galant without having the check engine light on?

If so, is there anyone in the northeast region that would do that swap for me. I know a little about mechanics, but I also know my limitations; so' soon I will have some money coming my way and I am very serious about this...only if it's done properly and with no check engine light. If someone with a garage shop is willing to do it, let me know labor cost and more or less the cost of getting all parts for the swap. Again, I am in MA, but I would be willing to drive some distance with previous planning.

BTW, has anyone ever tried to do the 3G sportronic transmission swap to the galant??? just wondering

ill be willing to do it. i work at a performance shop on long island and have already done a few in galants. flat rate charge is 75 an hour so however long it takes thats how much you gotta be charged.

i think for 2003 there was an ecu fix, search for it i think it was SPD_FRK who connected the solenoids into the harness to make the ecu think it is still there. As for the sportronic, i have not heard of it but at the same time not researched it, i know for a fact that the ecu would need to be swapped, but that there is all i would venture out on a limb and say need to be done as i know nothing of it.

So, based on your own experience....how long did it take last time you did a swap?

FYI: I charge $500 for the swap + coffee. Takes about 4-5 hours and i'm in queens.

Do you know how to fix the check engine light on the 2003's?

^You have to take out the 4 shift soleniods, and the torque converter soleniod out of the auto tranny... BUT i have an 03, did the swap, i have the soleniods hooked up, and i still have a code... the ecu is also looking for the p r n d 2 1 inputs as well.... so if you get an evo 8 ecu... and a boomslang harness.... the code should go away...

problem is a check engine light in NY state is automatic failure for inspection.

That pretty much goes for any State Inspection you go to.lol

But my car is all done and just finishing up on some of the wiring, so I will let you know soon if anything comes up cuz Im using an Evo 8 ECU.

Are you talking about the Boomslang harness? If so that was a total of $350.00

So, just to make sure....I have a GTZ; so the EVO 8 ecu will work with the V6??? or only works with the I4 engine?

uhhhhhh I would say no.
think about it: the Evo 8 ECU wants to run 4 cylinders. Therefore it only has the information to run 4 cylinders

The only way, as of now, that you will eliminate the CEL on the 5spd swapp will be to swap in for an Eclipse M/T ECU.
