So I figured out the car has a 16.3 gallon tank and estimated to get 21 city and 28 highway.

I need to know how much is in the tank when the gas light comes on so I can figure out what kind of mileage I'm getting. Does anyone know?

ok if your car is a 7g then you got like 2 gallons left

Can anyone confirm if this is the same for 8g?

For some reason I feel like it was 1.8 gallons left.

Yeah I remember my gas light came on right before I filled it up to the top and the receipt shows I bought ~12.7 gallons.

The only thing is our lights come on twice, the first time it stays on a for a little and then it turns off and doesnt come back on until its closer to empty. I filled up at the first light... Hm....

My 8g has right on at 3 gallons when the gas light starts burning bright

What kinda mileage do you get?

about 3 gallons. you can driveup to 63 miles in the city with the light on before running completely out of gas or driveup to 84 miles on the highway. I did that one time but i don't recommend doing that because of your fuel pump.

I always fill up once my gauge is at 1/4 tank. My mileage is 22mpg (city/highway) abt 240-260 miles on a tank of gas.

This is how I calculate gas mileage.

1. Get a full tank of gas and set the trip meter to 0.
2. Drive however much you drive.
3. Get another full tank of gas and see how many gallons it took to make it full again and how many miles you have driven.
4. Now divide the miles driven by the number of gallons of gas you just bought.
5. Now you have the mpgs!

I think this would be more precise.

Thats what I do too. I get about 275 miles on a full tank of premium bit I have a v6. But thats before the gas light comes on

Ah that's a good way didn't even think of that. Thanks.

I'll figure it out just as soon as I fill her up again and let you know.

Interesting. Yeah I usually get about 200-250 miles on a tank but I never fill it up to the top.

Yeah I don't get anywhere near 275 on a tank, wish I had the v6 :( My accord was getting about 350 miles on a tank and I think it had the same capacity as the galant. We'll see.

same way I calculate my gas mileage. as a matterof fact I just filled up. 248miles/10.180 gallons = 24.36 MPG!

i had 286 outta my last tank, with the light burning bright, and just put ten in to get home

I usually get 300-320 out of a tank, more if I really run the tank dry. I let the light go on for 2 days once and I had to put 14.8 gallons in the tank. I didn't even know my 4 cyl held that much.

Swap? lol. The v6 only gets one less mile per gallon than the 4g64 but you get more power.

On road trips, I usually average around 33 mpg if I limit my use of the breaks.

Don't you just wish Mitsubishi added 1 more gear? 5 speed automatic would do wonders for gas mileage!

Yeah I drive on the freeway an hour everyday, a fifth gear would be nice...

How many rpms are you guys taching at 70mph, without A/C?

bsilver23

i get 345 miles before i have to fill up and i have a v6. when the light goes on i know that i have between 30-50 miles more before i have to fill up. i usually go for the 30 because once i stretched it to 50 and i ran out of gas. but even when i fill up at 30 miles after the light has gone on i still only fill up about 15 gallons or so and i have a 16.1 gallon tank.

i am at about 2800 rpms at 70, however i do have a 5 speed so i have that extra gear. i noticed that with the 5 speed the gearing is much better and when i hit 80 i am at about 3200 rpms

this is in part why i did the 5 speed manual

70mph without ac I'm sitting at 2.7k rpm but if I'm running late for class and go 75-80 I'm at 3k rpm.

With the auto tranny?

Hmm, mine revs around 2700rpm at 70 without the A/C. 3100 rpm sounds a bit high.

bsilver23, I'm jealous of your extra gear!

Results are in!

I traveled 318.2 miles from the last time I filled up to the top and then I refilled the tank to the top again with 11.225 gallons so that puts my MPG at 28. But that's also ~90% freeway miles. I'm happy because I expected it to be an avg of city (21) and highway (27) so I would've been happy with 24 but I guess 4 more miles doesn't make that big of a difference. At least the car is running well.

And just because I like stats... the last time I filled up was 7 days ago at almost the exact same time so I traveled about 45.5 miles a day on average.

Any one else want to post theirs?

Yes i have the auto, i think there is a little bit of slip in overdrive which is why it revs slightly high.

wow that's great..the highest MPG I had for the city was 22 and the highway was 29.. where do you live? bc I know out here in vegas we now have a lot of stop and go traffic my last fill up dropped down to 22.08 mpg. My overall MPG is 21.94 mpg based on my Road trip app

the v6 tb will help with the fuel milage if you can keep your foot out of it lol. I just installed mine today, and it tachs at roughly 2400(our tach isnt the most accurate and precision0 at 70mpn, that is a 300 rpm drop=less fuel needed

The lowest calculated MPG I ever got was 18 because I was stuck in traffic averaging 5 miles per hour for 10 miles.

The highest I ever got was 39 using "hyper miler" techniques by tailgating a truck. I'll never do that again. Completely unsafe.

Our cars can easily get higher than 30MPGs if you use your brakes less on the freeway. So when you're on the freeway and you see a reason to slow down (like a slow car entering the freeway) instead of using your brakes to slow your car down, just let off the gas and let your car do the slowing down for you without the breaks. Just make sure you have enough distance to not crash into the back of the other slower cars.

I live in WA state. I think since it's getting colder that could've helped the engine run closer to peak efficiency. I actually bought a v6 tb from someone here on the forums for like $50. I took it apart to clean it one day and got lazy and never put it back together. When I moved I decided to just trash it. I should've held on to it because I just wanted it for performance.

Right now only mods are ram air and I chopped off my mufler. No muff could've helped me with mpg since it's less restrictive but I could've swore that the ram air would lower my mpg since more air is flowing pass the MAF sensor it would make up for it by squirting more fuel. Hm.

I've been running the acar app on my phone and it says I average about 27 mpg, we drove from san antonio to san angelo ( about a 3 hr drive ) and used only a half tank.
