Nice work man, that manifold looks good. I see you got your self the small racing Mishimoto radiator...not bad. I was thinking of that myself but for some reason its not big enough for me but let me know how it goes. Is your motor stock?

so... today I took the car around the block and the car threw a knock sensor code, I have the knock sensor just wondering how I'm going to hook it up, does it just have a wire that goes to the ecu and a ground?

also my tachometer dies out on acceleration and idle, so I probably need a larger power wire from my battery up front

3rd, the car backfires at like 4k-5k rpm, as soon as I get into the boost, like it blows out the spark I gapped the plugs to .028 going to buy new ones as soon as possible and I think there was 87 still left in the tank but i put 93 in runs better but still kicks (my hypothesis is the knock sensor i was reading another post)

pics coming up as soon as my gf gets home and gives me my dam camera

pics coming up as soon as my gf gets home and gives me my dam camera

LMAO, how much boost are you running??, cause cant you use the same spark plugs as an evo? they dont blow spark out

JDMFTW
10-21-2010, 08:39 PM
^ Ditto, also you should be running 1 or even 2 steps colder plug then factory spec.

duh2150
10-21-2010, 09:06 PM
yeah I'm pretty sure I can use the evo 8 spark plugs, I'm using the 4g64 plugs with .028 gap and not .044 so the plugs look kinda weird

JDMFTW
10-21-2010, 09:10 PM
go with NGK evo ones get 1 step colder do believe part number should end in a 7

duh2150

go with NGK evo ones get 1 step colder do believe part number should end in a 7

yeah true, I think I'm going to get just reg ones just so i know it actually works and then work my way from there

yeah I'm posting up some pictures now, just a few its not totally done yet

mrg7243
10-21-2010, 09:14 PM
do you have any problems with the boomslang?? cause some members have and some havent.
I demand sexy engine bay pics hahah

duh2150
10-21-2010, 09:21 PM
yeah actually i did all the pins were &$@*ed, i had to send it back and i showed them the pinout on road race engineering, and they where all good after that they even hooked up the knock sensor wire to my car, donno why extra wire for me to hook it up tho

mrg7243
10-21-2010, 09:51 PM
so you sent the pinout back with the harness? did they atleast pay for shipping??.
what do you mean the extra wire??

duh2150
10-21-2010, 10:08 PM
the evo8 ecu has a knock sensor wire the 8g ecu doesn't even have a knock sensor so how can you have a wire or something that's not there, when i got the harness it was missing like 50 wires seriously it had like the important things but not the other stuff like the o2's and data links etc. it was pretty back i sent it back i payed shipping to them they shipped it back fixed

mrg7243
10-21-2010, 10:12 PM

ah gotcha, wouldnt you just run a wire from the knock sensor pin a the evo ecu side, and then wire up the knock sensor from there?? you wouldnt have to run through the conversion harness.

duh2150
10-21-2010, 10:20 PM
yeah, that's what I'm going to do, and get a larger wire from the trunk (battery) to the front, and buy some spark plugs hopefully that fixes it all, and i gotta make a test pipe so i dont throw so many o2 codes

mrg7243
10-21-2010, 10:29 PM
no high flow cat??

duh2150
10-21-2010, 10:33 PM
yeah, I got a 3" high flow cat but I'm not gonna weld steel flanges to Stainless Steel, or I could just to get rid of the codes, still haven't decided yet

duh2150
10-22-2010, 08:29 AM
yeah tell me about it, i was thinking of buying another 8G and putting all this in it, i got mad miles on her, i think that's glare from the sun mainly, its bright this morning, plus one of the headlight housings is broke in the inside, JDM head soon hopefully after this

Full JDM kit next? lol

10-22-2010, 08:34 AM
Hey, when you sent the boomslang harness back to them, what pin out sheet did you send them? Cuz I also have to get mine redone =(

duh2150
10-22-2010, 08:53 AM
i didnt send them i sent them a link in a email

duh2150
10-22-2010, 09:15 AM
having no knock sensor is probably whats wrong with the car

http://www.wellsve.com/sft503/counterp_v4_i4_2000.pdf

duh2150
10-23-2010, 05:44 PM
so i installed the knock sensor the car runs great now, i need a tune and the rest of the exhaust done, i drove it around the block, and i have to say that shit was fast enough for me :)

more fixing to do RPM gauge next

mrg7243
10-23-2010, 06:31 PM
where did you install it at??, had how bad was the wiring?? Did you get new plugs yet??

duh2150
10-24-2010, 08:38 AM
the wiring is fine, I did everything at my house, there's something wrong with the rpm gauge, acting all crazy

mrg7243
10-24-2010, 11:20 AM
ah alright, where did you place the sensor on the block??, like how many wires is it 1, 2??
Could it be the rpm sendor on the transmission?? by buddys neons rpm would bonuce, and found out the sender was going bad.

reiketsutsukigami
10-24-2010, 12:50 PM
hey you throw cam or crank codes? your setup is almost just like mine and from the start ive thrown those codes i already got an evo cam sensor and put it in but i still throw codes for both cam and crank sensor circuits..it weird cause the car still starts and runs just getting rev limited at 4500

paparishi90
10-24-2010, 02:18 PM
Man it's been a while since I even touched my G, school is depriving me of all my joys in life, but there should be a spot on the back of the block to put a knock sensor in, but you will have to wire it directly to the evo ecu like he said earlier... there should be an open pin on the boomslang harness that it can plug into, to be honest I haven't seen if for about a year
but i'm still having the problems with the rev limiting at around 4500 rpm like reiketsutsukigami mentioned above.

duh2150
10-24-2010, 06:27 PM
im having no problems i think i just have a bad ecu because the rpm gauge "works" but really slow and drops out, that's all once its fixed i should be straight

duh2150
11-06-2010, 07:49 AM
so far everything works, I still have some codes for the o2 sensors, and when cruising especially when I'm in 5th and going slow in a neighborhood the engine feels like its rocking for no reason in closed loop, could be the EGR opening and closing, have no idea yet

Galantfan88
11-06-2010, 08:26 AM
Looking good so far man, congrats on getting her running. What cams are you running? are they stock or upgraded? also what mounts do you have stock or aftermarket?

Reason why I ask is bc I have an RPW Stage 3 camshaft and when I started the car the motor ran pretty hard or just had a hard sound to it, but thanx to the prothane motor mounts my engine didn't even budge.

11-06-2010, 10:58 AM
Wow looks awesome. But Hyundai parts? I am skeptical about even touching those nowadays, I guess it is some phobia from previous stuff they had. Oh the horrors.

Good luck with it, especially fixing that EGR opening.

my old engine never had a knock sensor but new one does and i have no plug for it is that normal

Armageddon Sunset
11-06-2010, 01:15 PM
looking great, hell I remember 2 or 3 years ago you just talking about this. I need to get my shit together and do something like this.

duh2150
11-06-2010, 04:54 PM
to Galantfan88: im running crower 272 cams and prothane motor mounts

to Davidline: its just the head everything else isn't Hyundai parts, and i really don't know whats wrong with it yet it could be the o2's but they are wiring right in the harness unless someone else has a different configuration

to 99galantES: yeah my engine didn't either there is a hole under that bracket that holds the intake manifold up, i dont know why your engine would have one our ecus don't support it unless 01 and up does

to Armageddon Sunset: thanks lol hoping to get this thing running grade A here soon fix the o2 sensors, and that might fix all my problems

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e202/duh2150/IMG_0326.jpg

the whole car needs refurbished bad

I'm thinking of buying another Galant stock with less miles and drop everything in it, shes got over 180k miles on her and falling apart

to do list still:

getting rid of the last codes (almost done)
get a tune, going from 13 psi to 19 psi, I'm looking for a "boost pill" from an evo8 if anyone has one if anyone has any good Orlando tuners let me know
and then hopefully another Galant

working out problems one by one

duh2150
04-17-2011, 08:34 AM
finally got my pins in and wired up the fuel regulator solenoid, waiting to get home from work so i can reflash the ecu and make sure there are still no codes,

next to go in evo 8 oem plugs and the boost pill and vacuum lines

IVORY_G
04-17-2011, 12:12 PM
Looks like motor-wise everything is all together. Congrats! Any vids? If the car is falling apart like you say, I'd get another clean galant to swap the motor into and cut your losses there.
