Whats up everybody names Brian for those of you that dont know me.Ive been with TGC for awhile now and I never really got started with posting my build or showing everyone how my 8g is coming along.Ive been really busy with work but I figured Id start this thread on my day off.Basicaully I got this galant my senior year (2006)of high school for my first car and ive decided to do some things to it.Over the years i ended up adding on to this project more and more.Tell me what you think.

This is how the Galant looked right when i got it.I always kept it clean and waxed. This was the beauty of working as a detailer for my first job at a car wash.

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/515/b24h.jpghttp://img831.imageshack.us/img831/3921/briancarbeforethebodyki.jpghttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/3921/briancarbeforethebodyki.jpg

Now the first pics will be funny so bear with me.My first car so went straight up rice with it lol.

Got my new body kit,TYC Black housing taillights, and some fake blue HIDs!Now who would of known that this kit would come in all different colors lol

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/2580/b25x.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/6843/briancarafterthebodykit.jpghttp://img696.imageshack.us/img696/6843/briancarafterthebodykit.jpg

After this little surprise me and my dad started doing the body work on the car.Had acouple of dents and dings that we had to get out then threw on some primer.I ended up getting some cheap ebay muffler and did one thing right for once.Got some VR-4 JDM headlights.

My first engine mod was a cold air intake (felt the difference with performance),Magnecor spark plug wires, and some ground wiring that i thought would give me 10hp extra lol.

As the time went by i still had no idea what the hell an engine was or what on earth a turbo is.All i knew is that turbo made your car faster.I ended up going to a local speed shop called CFT(Central Florida Turbo)I got all the parts i needed and had them install and fabricate for me.Went with 2.5" straight piping and a Tenzo burn tip at the end.

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/289/briancarandrims1226061.jpghttp://img692.imageshack.us/img692/1082/briancarandrims1226062.jpg

Ended up getting it Mustang Dyno'd making 227whp and 270 torque.

After this i started taking everything off and out from under my engine bay and began painting.Like it didnt have enough color on the outside already lol. Also got myself a Freedom Design strut bar.

http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/7634/26421033full1.jpghttp://img715.imageshack.us/img715/5404/264210311full1.jpg

Now we started primering the whole front bumper to get rid of that blue color. As we did that i wanted to do something alittle different to the bumper. We started making a custom evo nose in the center out of fiberglass and cut out 2 holes for air under it.Put F1 fiberglass fenders on with it.

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/7992/26421036full1.jpghttp://img230.imageshack.us/img230/4077/cimg3197.jpg

Here are some interior pics.

Gauges:AFR,Boost,Water temp,Voltage,Oil pressure,Oil temp.A little fire extinguisher,Greddy turbo timer,& and some diamond plate floor matts.

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/8396/cimg3373c.jpghttp://img836.imageshack.us/img836/3102/cimg3374.jpg

Now after all of this i ended up getting the block built.Sorry i dont have any pics of this..

Started getting parts ceramic coated-

http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/795/408gt.jpghttp://img221.imageshack.us/img221/6580/40810.jpghttp://img838.imageshack.us/img838/4449/40811.jpg
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/4602/40812.jpghttp://img210.imageshack.us/img210/5100/4088h.jpg

Had Installed: CP pistons 86.5mm,Eagle rods,OEM bearings Main,Trust,& Rod,New OEM Oil pump,Cometic head gasket,ARP head studs.Switched my BOV to the SSQ ver. 2,Evo 8 Koyo radiator,Aeromotive FPR,Oil catch can,& a Optima yellow top battery.

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/8715/cimg3272t.jpghttp://img403.imageshack.us/img403/1820/cimg3613.jpghttp://img151.imageshack.us/img151/8803/cimg3615.jpg

Still has some color in the engine bay but you have to admit its coming together alittle better.
Had the g tuned again and made 300whp and 320torque

Ended up shipping my trans to Level 10 Transmissions and got a stage 3 done to it.The torque and shifting was a great difference by far!

Also got tired of the stock height looking like the car had a lift kit on it or something so i went ahead and started getting my suspension started.

Suspension: KYB AGX struts & shocks,Tein S.Tech lowering springs, and Eibach cambers for the rear.

http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/2017/cimg3489i.jpghttp://img38.imageshack.us/img38/6377/cimg3359hx.jpghttp://img820.imageshack.us/img820/6894/cimg3355f.jpg

Got the springs on the struts and shocks then installed them on the car to see the new drop!
http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/5096/cimg3501p.jpg
http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/6868/cimg3523f.jpghttp://img195.imageshack.us/img195/691/cimg3524l.jpg

I really like how the suspension feels when its driving.the drop im happy with but I know in the future im going to go for some D2 coilovers.I just like the fact that you can adjust your height of the car.

Now....Lets try and get some new wheels and tires for the car since im still rockin the steelies..
It took me awhile to look for what kind of wheels i wanted.I searched and seached until I finally found a set that really caught me eyes.I ended up going with some-

Tenzo Type M concave black with red lip 19X8.5 all around with some Toyo tires wrapped around them.

^ Yeah man I still got the G lol..It hasnt been up for awhile cause of the things ive been doing to it but very soon it should be back on the streets.Everyone check out this build tomorrow i will have more progress posted with pics and all starting with my rear disk swap.

Gtorque
10-19-2010, 03:17 PM
Alright so now i start my rear disk swap conversion.

Went to the junk yard with (platano) which is no longer a member here.We found two galant GTZs and grabbed everything we needed from full E-brake line to hubs. Then grinded the spot welds on the backing plate for a cleaner install.

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/3198/cimg3974.jpg
http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/2568/cimg3967.jpghttp://img217.imageshack.us/img217/1719/cimg3975.jpg

But hey, while im at it i might aswell do a Evo 8 Brembo swap right?

Brakes:Evo 8 F&R Brembo calipers 2 re-painted,Evo 8 Brembo slotted rotors,Hawk brake pads,Stop tech F&R ss brake lines,& some Rays red lug nuts.(never put on)

http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/2109/brianpartscar1023082.jpg

Here we go..this had to be one of the easiest swaps ive ever done on the car

Difference!

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/512/briancar1026084.jpg

Front before and after
http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/6909/briancar1026082.jpghttp://img842.imageshack.us/img842/70/briancar1026086.jpg

Rear brakes are one!

http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/7974/cimg3977t.jpg

Behind the wheels - I had to wait 3 days after the install to test it because the wheels didnt clear the brakes up front.Got some H&R 15mm wheel spacers to clear that little problem right up.

Galantman03
10-19-2010, 09:11 PM
lol i don't think thats a true grill, its looks like he fiberglassed that in himself....
Why are you trying to make it look like an evo 8 front?

Gtorque
10-19-2010, 09:13 PM
So I started working at the Air port 3rd shift detailing JetBlues aircrafts (waxing the exterior and detailing interior)from 10:30pm-4:15am.On top of that we have a family owned Landscaping business that we start at 7:00am-4:30pm.Ive done this 2 job schedule for alittle over a year starting in January of 09.Anyway,One night I took the galant to work and i passed into the employee parking lot.i found a spot to park so i drove up alittle to reverse into the parking space. As i shifted into reverse and gave it gas i heard a very loud break and cracking sound.I shrugged it off and continued reversing and as i did so i seen infront of me an enormass amount of pink transmission fluid!Checked under and found this..

http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3417/cimg5705.jpg

Had AAA come pick up me and the car.I think the only good thing about this situation was that i got the night off and got some sleep.

Took the transmission off weeks later and checked it out.

I took it to a local transmission shop to check if everything was alright with the inside.Everything was fine the only thing i needed to get was an outer housing and swap them out.To be honest i never got around to it.I got tired of having a quick automatic so now this is where my 5 speed swap came to mind!!!

Went on car-parts.com and seen that a local salvage yard had a 2000-2005 manual transmission for grabs.I shot over there in the matter of minutes lol

New poyurethane motor mount inserts and got the outer motor mounts ceramic coated a nice chrome look along with a Braille racing battery.

http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/2213/cimg3120.jpghttp://img163.imageshack.us/img163/1860/cimg5685e.jpg

Time for us to get to work

http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/2038/cimg5681.jpg

Alright so lets back track alittle..Taking the Auto transmission out.

http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/2230/cimg5690.jpg
http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/6458/cimg5693q.jpghttp://img821.imageshack.us/img821/6065/cimg5692.jpg
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/2424/cimg5697s.jpghttp://img89.imageshack.us/img89/8688/cimg5702.jpg

Now that the Auto trans, torque converter, and flywheel are out lets start changing it to manual. The set-up i ended up going with was..

5 speed Transmision build:ACT 2600 clutch with street disk,OEM flywheel,Wavtrac lsd,new bearings for lsd,and had the transmission rebuilt with new synchros, hubs, etc.

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/9346/cimg5653.jpghttp://img219.imageshack.us/img219/1327/cimg5680.jpg

http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/3124/cimg5720.jpg

Now that thats all in and lined up...The master cylinder has been done already and through the firewall.Put some Tearstone aluminum Master and Brake caps on aswell.

nice how much for the 5spd?.....is there junkyard area up around here?

Gtorque
10-20-2010, 06:08 AM
^I got the 5 speed from a salvage yard called J&B 17105 E Colonial Dr Orlando,FL 32820..I paid $500 for it,they have the transmissions already taken out for you so you can pick and go.

Gtorque
10-20-2010, 01:01 PM
While the transmission was at the shop i took the entire dash out along with door panels and seats.Reason for this is because i was doing a full a/c delete from under the hood and under the dash!!Reason for door panels and seats will get to that later..Then i ran my new shifter cables through the firewall and installed my fidanza short shifter and Sparco nob.

http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/1509/b78a.jpghttp://img263.imageshack.us/img263/4858/b79h.jpg

All a/c under the dash
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/9978/b80a.jpg

Got the transmission back from being rebuilt and having the Wavetrac installed!Put that baby on,fluid it up and took her for a ride.Unbelievable!!

I was going to go with the GTZ spoiler or a trunk lip but with everything im putting on the car from the bumpers, drop, and wheels...I thought i might use something alittle more aggressive and different.I also have a CF trunk and a evo 9 wing that i customized for are 8g.But i wanted the SVR-4 instead.

Evo 9 wing was on with CF trunk

lmfao!!! nah man not about that stuff ... This is what happend. I ended up getting into an accident right when i got it in 06 and thats when i decided to get a body kit and JDM headlights...After that i noticed alot of little civics etc. would try and race me lol. So thats when i went turbo and progressed from there.I didnt know anything about cars before but now I do my own work.Im recently starting to learn how to weld too so i can make my own little brackets and piping etc.Im still learning about different things with these cars everyday. The biggest help with information ive ever gotten is from Stewi(Brian).I appreciate it man.

So basicaully 06 lol

^ I know this is going to sound dumb..... but i gotta ask.. the spoiler your going to put on, are you going to use 3m molding tape? or you going to drill and bolt... i'm really curious if 3m molding tape will work, i mean the dubai hotel uses vhb tape to hold the windows in place, and glass ways a ton more.... but i don't wanna be the first to try it lol

Gtorque
10-20-2010, 09:22 PM
^ Dont worry man feel free to ask...To be honest with you, I wouldnt risk the spoiler with only 3M tape.A spoiler is ment to cut threw the wind giving you more down force.Something like that to me would have to be bolted in threw the trunk. The SVR-4 spoiler provides 6 bolts that you can put through.Im sure on a smaller trunk lip its fine but thats just my thoughts

Galantman03

Ok guys from this day Oct. 20th 2010 I havent had my g running in going on 2 years...My exhaust manifold would constantly crack on me and i was done with that.I got it home and started working on the interior now.I got from Cali most of his interior from his other 8g that was sold and recked...First thing i started off with was taking out the carpet and vacuuming the trash that was under it with my friend Kiomar.

^ I had that exact vacuum for two yrs, LOL! Then it died on me this past summer. But it was a hand me down from a friend who had it before me.

Anyway I vote to keep the rear bumper. It looks good and u already molded it in. The wheels would match if u colormatched the stripe black cherry also. Even better would be to do ur calipers too. Thatd be sick! Or opt for some different more aggressive wheels that fit your offset for ur calipers and sell ur spacers and wheels. I heard to many bad stories about spacers and the wheels coming off. And with all that HP why even risk it ya know?

Ok so ive been having this issue with my manifold cracking for the longest and im done with it.Well you get what you pay for.So now i wanted something alittle more DIFFERENT.I wanted a top mount manifold.I ended up going with the Peakboost HVS manifold and 44mm Tial wastegate.I believe this is the same manifold that Stewi has before i got mine.

Piece of shit

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/8278/cimg6049.jpghttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/7841/cimg6050.jpg

Peakboost HVS

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/6443/cimg6161.jpg

Now as you can see this manifold is hitting something..The starter..This manifold is made specifically for the evos being that the starter on their cars are lower around the oil pan area.

I really like this manifold so i called up Ken from Peakboost and asked if I can send the manifold back and do something different to move the manifold away and over.I knew just what to do.With alittle measuring and a welder we can do this.I cut the flange off of the shity manifold and placed it on the head. Now i simply held the HVS manifold where i wanted it and started marking. This would of been a big pain if the p/s was still in the car but thats been deleted for awhile now lol.

http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/9524/cimg6169.jpg

Now that the other flange is on the head we started spot welding some points to it

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/3842/cimg6192.jpg

Manifolds spot welded on to the flange in the position wanted

The car looks really good with the Dolphin front, how big of a FMIC did you stuff in there? I was always concerned my 3" core wouldnt do the job, if I ever get to that point, im most likely going to need to swap bumpers to a dolphin so I can fit a larger core in there.

The trick to creating space up front is to relocate the power steering cooler. Once thats gone, that vertical bar on the radiator support that has the bolt on bottom for the power steering cooler, cut it just above the bolt hole, bend it back and weld it to the bottom of the radiator support (to the bar the radiator sits on top of) then where the bolt hole was in the lower bar, grind it all down, I gained about 1/2" to 3/4" clearance by doing that.

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2707/b123.jpg

Now that I got my manifold back from Peakboost i decided to go with a turbo alittle bigger than a 50 trim journal

My Precision 6262 Ball bearing turbo came in!!

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/4220/cimg6309l.jpghttp://img824.imageshack.us/img824/9509/cimg6311.jpg

Here was alittle test fit before the ceramic coating

Brian who did the ceramic coating on the hotside? Even with the coating I would still put a bag over that thing. I had jethot 2000 on my old hotside, 3rd dyno pull that stuff started flaking off all over, it couldnt handle it and that was about 1700 degrees. With the bag over my turbo, I can do a WOT pull, pull over and touch the bag with my bare hand and not get burned. The other thing I would recommend is having the manifold swain coated. It will be a sad day when I do it and lose the bling bling, but it really needs to be done. My underhood temps went up about 20 degrees after switching to this manifold since the runners are so long, they give off a crazy amount of heat.

It will be a sad day when I do it and lose the bling bling, but it really needs to be done. My underhood temps went up about 20 degrees after switching to this manifold since the runners are so long, they give off a crazy amount of heat.

Damn..I knew this shit was gonna get extremely hot..Ill go and buy a bag next week for it.Lol your right, I cant stand seeing rust under my hood..Ill look into the swain coating. Thanks

Alright so id say acouple of months passed by and my g wasnt even close to being fired up again...I ended up getting another car to get me around...

My 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD...This car had acouple of things that needed to be fixed but it wasnt anything serious..

http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/5910/75693464.jpg
http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/5049/88231442.jpg

The owner before me put some coilovers, better spark plug wires, and a full 3" Apexi exhaust...No motor work what so ever.I hated that the bottom of the front bumper was gone but I can get to that later.

The first problem this car had that i got on was a cracked valve cover around one bolt causing oil seepage.I went ahead and got a new one powder coated a nice purple color similar to the HKS color.

It was also missing the spark plug cover in the center so i made one out of diamond plate lol

Hmmmm maybe i can go with both colors. One on the Galant and one on the Talon..Now if i use the Hyper black 5Zigen ZR +520s it would look great on either color. But my Tenzos i might have to consider a powder coat or something cause they look great on my Talon lol.

Gtorque
10-25-2010, 05:18 PM
Ok so while the g is in the garage and waiting on some parts ive been working on the Talon some.

I ended up getting some extra front side markers from the junk yard and painted them a amber color.Wanted to do a different look on it..

Gtorque
10-25-2010, 05:43 PM
Now i did alittle cutting on the headlights and painted it smoked black...After awhile of having a turbo car with a side mount intercooler i got sick of it.So i got me a Punishment Racing FMIC kit!(and a knock off FPR)got it for free lol

This is the top right mount. The front, and tranny mount looked just like this one...The rear stuck in there but im still gonna change it.

I could not find a front turbo bumper for the car anywhere so i kind of gave up and got a Bomber front bumper..It came early in the morning and we got straight to modifying to get this on.I think it looks OEM with alittle twist to it..The only thing i dont like about this bumper is the holes on the sides...These ar going to me fiberglassed later but other then that i think it looks aggressive.

Thats really something a machine shop should do, they need to cut the head to size the valves properly and fit the valves so they all have proper stem height.

Ohh another thing worth mentioning. There has been great debate over on evom with the quality of the cometic headgasket thats made for the EVO head with 4g64 block. I have one in my motor and its fine so far *knock on wood* there are a bunch of guys on EVOM that have no trouble, but others that have had nothing but trouble with headgasket leaks. The preferred gasket of choice now is the OEM EVO gasket thats modified by AMS for accomodate the larger bore of the 4G64 or the power enterprise gasket made with the larger bore. The AMS one is about $150 and the PE one is about $225, just throwing this out there now, hate to have to deal with that shit once its in the car and giving you trouble.

head receiver grooved? You lost me on that one. If you mean they grooved the sealing surface of the head to accept the O-ring, im not sure if thats a good idea. Without having the head gasket in hand when doing the machining, how can you tell if the gasket covers the O-ring or not? The gasket may sit atop the O-ring in which cause the O-ring wont sit in the groove on the head, if anything you made it more likely to leak between the head and the gasket. Again, you lost me with receiver grooved.

Okay so since i had the Talon ive been having issues with the gears popping out on me and grinding.I got tired of it and began doing a tranny rebuild and upgrading some parts.

So we came to find out that the gear part of the transmission has never been taken apart before.I had a friend of mine come by and put all new gears, synchros, and hubs into the tranny and put everything back together again.I dont mess with that shit lol

http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/1562/cimg6928.jpg

Now that the gears are all done i decided to go with a ACT light weight flywheel and a ACT 2600 with street disk.

So while my Talon is in my garage on jack stands and being worked on my Galant is parked in the drive way with a cover over it.I got home from my Air port job at around 2:40a.m. and went straight to sleep. My younger brother works at the air port aswell 3rd shift in a different department. He got home at around 4:30a.m. As he pulled up to the driveway he noticed glass on the floor as well as some white broken bricks that would be around a landscape. Some f$%kin guys thought it would be funny to break my front windshield.Picks when the sun came up.

I have cameras at the house and seen the whole thing..This all happend right before my brother got home at around 4:20a.m. They came by driving slowly in an older Benz..Then they came back around and one guy got out of the car and ran over to my car and lifted my cover to see if it had the fmic on and drove away again. The third time around they came with the bricks like you see in the top pick. This time 2 guys got out, one tossed the brick making the hole on the top and denting my roof after it flipped over making a dent over my drivers door. The other ran on the side of the hood and smashed another brick into the windshield. The Talon was all done and I was actually going to take it down and swap the cars out the night before. Ugh

Ya it is f^&ked up.. Well heres the funny thing..I mostly stay to myself and ive been working 2 jobs for over a year so I have no time for fun, friends or anybody. I dont have any problems with anybody either. My brother used to have a 2002 Lancer that I actually turboed for him.His Lancer used to be parked in the driveway aswell until alittle while ago he sold it for a 2006 Subaru. While it was in the driveway it would have the cover over it and the black wheels with a painted red lip would be shown under. My galant didnt have the front bumper on it under the cover so lets see. I have black wheels with a red lip and an intercooler..The Lancer is gone because it was sold..These guys are dressed up with some tight ass pants and shirts lookin like they just got outta high school.I dont f&^kin talk to anyone and have no mind for anybody. They though my Galant was my brothers Lancer....Yes, that sounds about right

So lets go passed the bullshit and get back to moding some more..

So i ended up switching my CXRacing radiator with a Mitshimoto one. I wanted to start doing a better set-up on the Talon. This is going to be a street/strip and im not going crazy like huge turbo and straight up ridiculous upgrades. Gonna keep it simple and quick

So I started draining the antifreeze and got to work.

http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/6454/cimg6983.jpghttp://img155.imageshack.us/img155/1745/cimg6984.jpg

Since the a/c is gone imma do something different with the thermostat housing, water pipe, radiator, and water pump.

Took the thermostat housing off and got something different from Jayracing

http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/8803/cimg6987.jpg
This has a 16AN threaded flange on it

Also a alternator relocation kit. With the new cooling route im trying the alternator would just be in the way. Once this kits on I will be able to have the alternator sitting in the back firewall side instead of being close to the radiator

Some JDM side markers for the galant. Later on im gonna do some body work with my dad to give it that flush look with the fenders.

http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3788/cimg7029.jpg

Got some EARL and Russell fittings for this water set up.Basicaully the water pump leads to the water pipe going towards the left side under the engine bay. This water pipe is right in back of the turbo and manifold which gets extremely hot making this water pipe hot. So what im going to do is block off the water pipe and put a 6AN fitting leading into the turbo's coolant port. Now im going to have the water go straight from the radiator to the water pumps front. You can see what I mean in the pics below. The other turbo port is going to come from the new housing ontop where the thermostat used to be. I had my boy weld and thread on this that way I would be able to still use my coolant sensors. The radiator, water pump and housing wil be using 16AN fittings and for the turbo ports im using 6AN.

Now I know your wondering where I would be able to check or fill in the antifreeze. Im going to have this welded onto the radiator.Im also going to relocate where the fluid travels in the bottom of the radiator.

Notice that the bottom flow port is located on the right side of the picture.Im going to have that cut off and blocked while it will be relocated on the opposite side where the water pump is

Being that im doing the Evo 8 head swap now im going to have to take out my CP Pistons 86.5mm and Eagle rods. Rods can be used but im going with a better much stronger choice. I would have a problem using my pistons being that this heads valves are large and a DOHC. My new choice for Pistons and Rods

Wiseco Pistons kit 87mm 10:1 ( with upgraded wrist pins )

http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/9374/cimg7896.jpg

Rods of choice
Manley Turbo Tuff connecting rods

http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/9937/cimg7958.jpg

I ended up going with ACL Racing Main,Thrust, and Rod bearing aswell

2.4L Cometic head gasket

http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/705/cimg7953.jpg

Now the motor has been takin out and all these new parts along with the motor and evo 8 head has been brought to the machine shop for some work

I bought the cheapest two mirage fenders I could find, I got them from a local body part supply place, they are aftermarket they were about $70 for the pair on fenders. I cut out the marker lamp "pocket" and left about 1.5" around it, then cut the same area out of the galant fender and welded it in. You will still need to do some body work once its all welded and smoothed since the metal is so thin, it will warp a bit, so some body filler is needed. I had one advantage when I did mine though, I had a pair of OEM JDM VR4 fenders sitting right next to me so I was able to get the exact measurements to make sure I put the marker lamp in the exact same place as the JDM one. If you need me to, I can re-measure my car to give you exact measurements.

Here are the only two pics I could find.....

So wait, your taking the bottom end back apart again?

Which model CP pistons did you have? Do you have a piston spec sheet for them? Also what is the headgasket thickness? Many aftermarket pistons have larger than normal valve pockets to begin with, secondly, the piston top on a 4G64 sits "in the hole" as they say, essentially meaning the top of the piston never gets above the deck of the block and actually sits below the deck. I cant remember exactly but im pretty sure my pistons sat about 3.5mm's below the deck, when combined with a cometic gasket that im sure is significantly thicker than stock, you have a good amount more valve clearance.

In regards to you new setup, how quickly do you plan on going AWD? That 10:1 comp ratio is gonna spool that turbo FAST, faster than you want in a FWD car. Hell my 9:1 comp ratio spools my turbo faster than I would like. You may have to de-tune your fuel & timing maps to force it to spool a little slower.

The main reason why im redoing the bottom end is because i want to make sure that the motor will support the power I want to be making in the future.. The eagle rods are good but i wanted better. The pistons I wanted to go alittle bigger and I had to upgrade the wrist pin anyways.

As for the ratio when the evo transmission goes on I want to start my awd project because I really dont feel like having all that work done on the transmission just to keep it fwd. I liked the ratio because of the more power on less boost.

What do you mean by "bigger pistons" Like larger bore? So now the block needs to be re-machined, re-honed, hot tanked, all over again. I can understand the rods, but the rods can at least be replaced without having to re-machine the block and all. The CP pistons have proven themselves to 800+whp. I personally use wiseco, only because its all that was available when I built my setup without going full custom and waiting 8-10 weeks.

In regard to the more power on less boost, its true up to a point. With a higher compression ratio you typically need to run higher octane fuel or meth injection to compensate once you get to a certain point. So lets say all other things remaining constant, on a 9:1 motor, you may make 400whp at 20psi on 93 octane, on the 10:1 you may be able to make the same power at 18psi which is great, but once you get to a certain boost level, the compression ratio isnt gonna be factor because your going to need higher octane fuel or meth injection to prevent it from knocking (detonating) That turbo you have there is most efficient in the higher boost levels since thats what it was designed for, so typically you would want to run more boost since thats what the setup is designed for. Its not the end of the world either way, I would just hate to see you waste money on swapping out the pistons for little performance gain.

Stewi
12-19-2010, 11:02 PM
sure, you can use anything, but what im saying is your going to need race gas or meth injection on a 10:1 motor once you start boosting past about 22-25psi, you can always retard timing and add fuel to offset this in the tune, but doing that will hurt the spool up time.

Dont put that crank in the motor yet, dont do it!!!!

Have the machine shop remove the pilot bushing from the end of the crank now before its back in the motor, save yourself the trouble. You can put the 5 speed bushing in with it in the car easily, but the auto one is sometimes a PITA.

^ Lol no lotto.. I f&*kin wishh ha.. I actually got a great deal on most of these parts man. Im the type to always buy brand new especially when it comes to motor parts. But a friend of mine had a bunch of parts for sale after parting out dsms that I couldnt resist. He sold me these for these prices

Kiggly Racing springs,retainers,and seats - $150.00
AEM cam gears - $25.00
COP - $100.00
fp2 cams - $300.00
Magnus intake manifold - $250.00
PunishmentRacing 6AN fuel filter to rail - $20.00

All these parts are used but in GREAT condition! Wouldnt you have done the same?

^ lol I will ask him for you ;)

Question guys. Ive been looking all over the internet on how to install a Evo 8 ecu in are 8g but sometimes theres just way to much information and confuses me. As some of you know I did do a manual swap and I still have my auto ecu in the car. I see that the manual 3g eclipse is identical to the evo 8s ecu but without all the turbo programs. Im almost close to getting the car started and this is pretty much the only thing left for me to do. I will post pics of the motor back inside the car later on today.

Along with the evo 8 ecu that I have I went with a Speed Density and Omin 4. I already got the MAP sensor connected to the intake manifold and i will be wiring the 2 wires for the AIT sensor to the MAF today. I see that some people say it would be wise for Boomslang to make a harness from auto 8g to evo 8 ecu but would that plug and play be it or is there still anymore work involved?

Anything would help guys.

I know that the eclipse and evo ecu connector wise is the same, but ours is different. Evo and Eclipse ecu has 2 rows of pins, and our ecu has 3 rows of pins. So even if you wanted to put the eclipse ecu, evo ecu, or any standalone in you still need the Boomslang harness. The harness is "supposed" to be plug and play, but I know Galantfan88 and couple other people on here(can't remember) had a couple pins wrong on the Boomslang harness, so they messed up. thats pretty much all i know lol

I do remeber people having issue witht eh Boomslang harnesses, but i know one guy(i think it was Duh) he sent them the wiring pinouts from the two ECUs to boomslang and siad this is how it should be done

^ Thanks guys. Ya i noticed that ares had 3 rows and the evo 8 has 2. I got the Evo 8 ecu pinpoint diagram from RoadRace but I cant seem to find the one for are 8g. Does anyone have a print out on it? I found one on C3g with the the colors and all but it was way to small to print out and I couldnt make out the words.

If anyone has done it I would like to hear from there piont of view. How did you do yours or did you get a harness from boomslang made? If so did the harness give you any problems? Thanks

I only have first hand experience with one boomslang harness and that was for XD_01's car and it had like 4-5 wires that were pinned to the wrong spot, not a huge problem. I am going to work on hosting and posting up the pinouts and charts that I have. I know i've promised that before but I will do it this time I swear.

With the Evo ecu you might get some CEL's since you dont have a stock boost solenoid and some other crap the EVO has, but it will still work and run the engine correctly. You will need to have the immobilizer programmed so it starts. I have NO experience with immobilizers since my car doesnt have one (99's FTW!!) but im sure Cali, Goosey or Qnz can answer that in more detail since they have it in their car and I think Goosey did XD_01's immobilizer.

Johnathansgalant and I made my harness. It took about 8+ man hours to do the wiring but we were wiring up a dual ecu harness. It should take a little less time to do a straight conversion harness.

I would buy the harness from boomslang and just doublecheck their work. The only thing that sucks about the boomslang harness is that they use all the same color for the wiring. If you were to make your own harness, maybe look into using the stock colors by taking an engine harness from a junkyard car.

clearing the immobilizer is super easy. clearing the CEL lights and any codes is pretty simple too.

I have the Evo 8 ecu print out from Road Race. I think that if I have the correct ecu for are 8g I can send both ecu print outs to them and the harness might come back correct. Stewi if you can please post up the 8g ecu pinpoint that would be great for all of us. I took a drive down to CFT to talk to Rolo cause this ecu shit is giving me a f&^kin headache. He told me maybe Jeff at DSMchips.com could probably flash my ecu and do upgrades in it to be just like an evo 8 ecu ( if thats possible). I sent him a email and hopefully he returns a positive one. Also I spoke with Jon with JestrTuning and he said he just recently tuned a Galant up in Jersey that had a evo 8 ecu in it. He said it went very well, whos g did he tune?

You would check with the galant factory service manual and the Evo FSM

So in my FSM, it lists the Ecu connector pin number:
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa170/qnzaaron/galant%20stuff/ecu1.jpg

and the few pages after that, it will list what pin is for what.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa170/qnzaaron/galant%20stuff/ecu2.jpg

So you would need to find the Evo FSM and then match the pin to pin.

For example, you see the Throttle Position sensor is pin 78 in the galant. You need to find the TPS input on the evo ecu (lets just guess its pin 95 on the Evo ecu). So you will need to make sure on the boomslang harness that pin 78 on the Galant side is going to pin 95 on the Evo side. Get it?

THeres a pretty good excel spread sheet on club3g by Balla or Napalm (i forgot who made the post) but it lists all the pins for the galant ecu. The one in the Galant FSM sometimes uses technical terms that I had no idea what it was reffering to.

Car is running strong. Better than what I am able to do on my own. However my car is guzzling gas like its going out of style. I havent had a chance to log it and talk to him about it.

I would say he is a competant tuner. I rather him tune my car then some of these shops in the Tri-state area

As for flashing your stock galant ecu to behave like an evo ecu, I dont think its possible. I remember reading about that on C3G. You can however flash a manual 3g Ecu with an evo rom and have it work exactly the same.

Yes I understand what your saying thats the easy part lol. Is the Haynes Repair Manual the same as the FSM or no? Cause i cant seem to find it in mine

I have no idea if the Haynes will list the Ecu pinouts.

If you know anyone with an alldata account, they can look up and print out the galant and evo printouts. But I think all the info that you need exists already on here and Club 3G

The print out on Road Race for the evo 8 ecu. Have anyone used this one or confirm that its correct? I seen another ecu thats ares on C3g in color and all but I cant quite make out the words
