Like I said when I spoke with you last week, im down to help but im not much of a V6 person in terms of timing belt and what not. Deeznutz would probably be the best for that since he knows the V6 well.

Well I have done over ten 5spd swaps, so im good with that. I need my timing done as well and if we gonna make it a wrench day and what not maybe i can get something done too. Where are you located and how big is this place we will be working at?

i'll help with whatever i know that platform like the back of my hand! Let me see im going to speak with Isuriao first cause he's prob rolling wit me. That bumper where the fuck you get that what's it made of? Do you plan on pulling the motor cherry picker you have one? What tools do you have?
Hey Stewi sorry i didn't get a chance to talk with you at MOD i feel like a doosh.

Yeah i'm in. Have to help out a member.
For the front bumper the closest i could think about is this one molded for the 8G.

The bumper he posted looks like the SVR-4 that VIS sells. Its essentially an old style JDM front with the SVR4 lips molded into it already and its all made of fiberglass.

Deez, I've never taken out a v6 before, can you remove it thru the top with the tranny still attached? If you can, its probably easiest to swing the motor/tranny out together, have you working on the t-belt and the rest of us working on swapping to 5 speed.

Now that's the way to get this shyt done... Extra envious right about now.... can't wait 'til tax season....

deeznutz
10-26-2010, 11:19 AM
Stewi you should be Able to remove it from the top with the right angle, I did mine from the bottom much easier this way. As for the t belt and water pump I'm on it!!! The 5 speed is a Lil different on the 6 because it has a pull style pressure plate not the push style like the 4. Have to snap in a clip on throw out bearing after trans is mounted can be a pain in the ass but I got the trick...

Sorry for late reply had to take care of a few things so no internet time.....I will Serve Chicken, Beef Ribs and another meat. Im in queens by hillside as stated above will be at private house with two car drive way about 4.5 cars length long not including garage. Heres a Pick so you get an ideah
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/S5030151.jpg
My car is sitting in tthe middle of the drive way as you can see there is plenty of room. i have two air compressors the small one and a tall stand up one. we will be pulling the motor and tranny out from the black 8g and just the motor from the grey 8g. i have no problem with anyone that is helping fixing any of their cars i just ask that we not pull any other motors till after we put my 1st motor back in just to avoid having my pops flip seeing 3 motors out at one time.

Well how bout you do the timing on say his car and mine or whatever and we do everything else :)

Im all in on the 5spd swap since I know that like the back of my hand, you can do the timing and whoever else can pick what they know how to do. What day you wanna do this cuz its getting cold and if you ask Chris(mko) a 5spd swap in the dead of winter is crazy but can be done.

And I cosign with Stew its better to take out the whole engine and trans especially cuz you going 5spd.

clean that crap up lol I only work in the most pristine garages. how much did the dealer charge for the shift linkage. no springs or felt washers wit the clutch fork and find those bolts for the flywheel without them the mani tranny is a no go... whats under the cover in the garage a surprize?

jubeiaire
10-27-2010, 01:05 AM
Cables were $94.00. Guess i gotta make a trip to mitsu and check on springs and washers. whats the size/thread on the bolts if its not in the box ill just get some from home depot. If i tell you whats under the cover ill have to keep your pistons as collateral.

deeznutz
10-27-2010, 07:43 AM
The threads are a fine thread they should have came with flywheel mine did... I have some OE bolts that u can use for comparison. Engine hoist u have one?

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_1779.jpg

Yeah bro if you expecting a few members over you need to clean the place a little bit to gain more space. Like I said before to save time each person take a project such as, one person take the timing belt, the other one takes the shocks "coilov" and so on. Also double and triple check that all the parts are there for any conversion or swap.

jubeiaire
10-27-2010, 10:21 AM
you guys didnt read the caption above the pic. i said i was sorting out stuff that was going out to the trash.that means it was all trash and being thrown away; but out here in queens we have to SORT our trash or we get a fine from the sanitation dept. Im not going to sort trash in my moms living room.

engine hoist is on its way. not sure if ill get a stand. Maybe if pepboys has a sale on one.

if you think something is missing just say what it is and ill double check to make sure its there

deeznutz
10-27-2010, 10:44 AM
Don't really need the stand but a dolly would be nice... Thread lock pick some up the blue one. We really need to start planing this thing out who's coming when this way things can go together in the right order...
Stewi what day were you thinking of going?

Stewi
10-27-2010, 02:43 PM

im going to cut off the stand and Paint it Black Chrome Then fill in the circles with a crystal clear red resin and mount it like the symble for BMW's. might put leds behind it so it lights up with my headlights. i could paint it red and do a Smoked fill but then t would look stupid back lit. I figured just stick with the official Red/Black symbol colors and ill be fine. it will be the only thing on the outside of the car showing regular people its a mitsubishi.

Ok guys I am definetly out. My wife hasnt been feeling well for a a few days, so today it got to the point where she was having trouble breathing so I took her to the ER. I've been over there since midnight, they thought it was her asthma acting up but it wasn't, preliminary test suggest it could be something more serious like a blood clot in her lungs, they are keeping her overnight for observation and are going to do more tests in the morning.

Stewi

Thanks guys.

I just got home from the hospital with my wife, all is well. The testing for blood clots in hear lungs/heart were negative, so they think its bad muscle spasms being caused by her asthma or because of the way they baby is sitting. Bottom line is as of right now, wife and baby are OK and the problem isnt serious.

We did a lot that day. The car should run in no time. Mechanical all it needs is to drop the 5 speed that is almost 45% done. Overall progress about 35% in one day. It was not a bad day a little cold but for 4 members to overhaul 2 G's in one day "8hr period” it was pretty good.

First set of Farts----
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0189.jpg

As you can see its frozen like a Cow at a meat lovers convention
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0186.jpg

Look now i have a huge paper weight blocking my good engine/tranny
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0185.jpg

Second set of FARTS------

whats missing
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0188.jpg

how about this one anything seem off
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0190.jpg

so with those two FARTS on the table I took a break and assembled the intermediate shaft and pulled the good axle from my 02
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0178.jpg

while i was in there i pulled my fron D2 Dampers
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0175.jpg
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0176.jpg

Meanwhile the guys discover that my Rack/Pinion boots on the 00 were Torn, so we had to pull the Rack/Pinion out,,,,OH FOR FUCK SAKES:------

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0177.jpg
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0182.jpg

Ps if you pull your Rack/Pinion your gonna have to remove the fire wall boot to see this peice. Its pressure closed by a bolt but after years of that it doesnt spread back open so your gonna have to use a wedge and open ir back up to get the spindle out
Clamp:

OOOOOOO look i have a rare Valve cover for all my hard work
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0193.jpg

Also attached Manual Intermediate shaft to engine. Megan Headers clear just fine so side note: MEGAN HEADERS fit with one Modification needed. You will HAVE to bore out the outer bolt holes one size bigger to clear the bolts smootly that is all.

LOOK someones in the engine bay.....wooopieeee.......blech....
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/IMG_0180.jpg

Congrats on the work so far, but I have to ask just one question. Why pull the engine without dropping a 6G74 or 75 in? Would have saved a lot of work in the future if you ever go that route.

jubeiaire
11-21-2010, 08:17 PM
Didnt pull the engine for tranny. I took my engine from my 02 8G and dropped it into an 00 8G with manual swap. 02 has frame damage but only 85k miles; 00 had 215k mile so i used 00 for the frame. also 00 doesnt throw code when swapped. when im done only original thing left in 00 frame will be the ECU

QnzMostWanted
11-21-2010, 08:19 PM
he pulled the engine out of his 02 cuz it had 80k miles on it, the engine in the 00 was like 200k

Heres an issue. The[EDIT: AC Compressor for the 00 and 02 have Different Clips. If you have the engines out then its a good time to swap the wiring. you have to remove the belt to replace the power AC Compressor ...UGHHHH. Once they are back in its a bitch. Tiny as screw in bad place hard to get too with AC Compressor End EDIT] attached to block. Of course you can cut and splice wires but im not a girly man so i do it the right way................

All the pedals are way to loose for my happiness anybody got a brake bleeder they can come and help out with.

If you want to bleed your brakes by your self you should look up bleeding brakes backwards. Did it on my prelude took about 5 minutes from having barley any pressure at all. And i dont think you can stiffen up the gas pedal? you can make it more responsive at the TB. Good progress whats next on the list?

First headach on passanger side

Tried to remove arm from bracket and bolt was frozen so i went after bracket bolts

The bolt itself was rusting through. Snapped right off inside sidewall of wheel well.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0595.jpg
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0594.jpg

I tried to slavage the original threaded tunnel by going from small to bigger bits, got close but it still was stripping my new bolts threads.
Tap and die set to the rescue.

I re-threaded the hole and rethreaded the bolt. first time i ever had to fix a bolt allways just got new bolts, heres how it came out

Removing your dampers/struts will give you more play and area space while doing the rest of the work, if car is jacked up the rear suspension doesnt plummet to the floor like the front does without the dampers/shocks attached

i finally get the arm out and the fucking bracket bolts still wont come out so i had to take a trip to my boys job and use his vice so i could sledge them out

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/2012-07-27_14-56-18_875.jpg
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/2012-07-27_14-56-33_637.jpg

after that i move on to the lower arm im pulling out,,,,,heres where alllllllllll the fun came in

as you can see not much room to play with in here
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/2012-07-27_14-55-34_507.jpg

i was forced to take the map gas torch and melt out the bushing so i could get enough leverage to hammer out the bolt
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_7179.jpg

Had to hammer the whole bolt assembly through the wall since the sleeve is wider than the bolt hole,,,gonaa love fixing that hole back into place...[enter punch and hammer]
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_7177.jpg

This bolt is suposed to be three seperate parts consisting of 1bolt 1 adjusting washer and 1 bushing sleeve. as you can see these three parts didnt know that and melded together
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_7173.jpg
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_7174.jpg

Once that was out i moved on to the brakes
removed the caliper and rotor and removed the sheild behind the rotor
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_7165.jpg

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0596.jpg

Moving on to the driver side i get teh upper arm brackets out but the damn bolt holding it to the knuckle is frozen to the sleeve. So i pull out my angle grinder and cut off thr nut and bolt head

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0023.jpg

nut removed
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0018.jpg

back to grinding till she was off.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0021.jpg

after cutting off the bolt head i was able to remove the arm and start working on getting the bolt out of the bushing. After coming to the conclusio that the whoel thing would need to be removed i sent my cousin to the store to get me another o2 canister. while waiting i made due of my time and removed the first one by hand.

A lil drilling and knife work
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0030.jpg

then a chisle to that left edge
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0031.jpg

a small sawzzall cut to help pry it ou til its here
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0034.jpg

then you have this rusty hole to clean before putting a new sleeve.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0035.jpg

after replacing the sleeve...sadly only had one spare i put in the bushing with some anti seize
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0037.jpg

and now the bushing sleeve...more antisieze
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0036.jpg

prepping the arm...a lil antisieze
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0038.jpg

then my new bolts and washers with ...ahem...a lil anti sieze
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0039.jpg

then you lock it down and move on to the rest of the parts

had to repeat the same steps from drivers side to remove the lower arm side
rotor and calipers came off easy peasy on this side just needed to use torque gun and rubber mallet on my rachet to break a few bolt free.

no pics of removing the old ones of thesehttp://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_7197.jpgbut i had to cut and grind these off as well due to the allen key screw being so rusted i couldnt use my allen key

D2 going back on with plenty anti sieze to keep me rust free for a lonnnggggg time

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0041.jpg

Lower adjustable arm going in...again anti sieze all over.....

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_7188.jpg

Calipers on.....
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_7195.jpg

Driver side arm on with bolt hole and bolt tapped/died to perfection
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_7163-1.jpg

Driver side all in place
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/jubeiaire/Galant/IMG_0014.jpg

AS A SIDE NOTE; since i didnt have a spare sleeve for the drivers side i use the torch to melt out as much of the rubber as possible then i used a dremel with a grind wheel, the one shaped like a disc not a drum. reason is the drums leave grooves the disc is much smoother and wont bind up from the rubber. after cleaning it out give it a heavy coating of anti sieze and put in your bushing.
