Here is my build thread that is almost 8 years in the making now. My direction with this car is to build it the way Mitsubishi should have built it. I wanted to build a car that people can tell is modified and yet still look like it could have came that way from the factory. Even tho my mods are subtle, I filled the car with a lot of top-shelf parts and had shops make me a lot of custom one-off parts.

Installed pusher fan. I removed the passenger side fan because the turbo was there. When sitting in traffic in hot weather, sometimes caused the temps to creep up with only 1 fan. After I installed the pusher, it never overheated again.

I would say different tuners and different ablities of each ECU. I dont know what correction factor was on at Billet, but there was zero correction factor at No Limit. Billet Design also spent over 3 hours on the dyno tuning my car where Jestr spent about an hour. With some more tuning time, he might have been able to eek out a few more HP. But I told the Jestr I rather have a reliable car that could sustain long highway runs vs a car with peak HP bragging rights.

fair enough, I just know that the evo ecu is very very capable, we have a lot of stock ecu 600-700 whp evos coming out of english racing here in the northewest, very nice build though, nice to see everything that's happened with the car since you've had it. Any future plans for a dohc swap, or built auto tranny?

I know. I wish English Racing was closer so I could get tuned by them. They really know their stuff with the tephra speed density mod.

I'm at a point of content-ness with my car. I feel like I dont need to mod it further right now. Plus I drive it daily to work so I cant afford the downtime it would do a head swap or send out the tranny to get built. That doesnt mean I'm not already collecting dohc parts tho. :)

So i havent made an update to my build page in almost a year.

Today I put on my LHD EDM mirrors. Well not entirely...
The main difference between the LHD mirrors and the JDM mirrors are the base.

My broken JDM mirror from the accident. Notice the part number and casting
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa170/qnzaaron/c357f8bc.jpg

My LHD mirrors purchased from Germany. Notice the LHD on the base, but the same part number on the mirror part.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa170/qnzaaron/9211be0b.jpg

I popped off the glass and was surprised to see they were heated mirrors. There are 2 extra wires that connect to the glass. However, the mirrors are not power folding
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa170/qnzaaron/cd8b341d.jpg

In the end, I just swapped bases with the JDM mirrors because I wanted to keep the power folding option and never felt the need for heated glass.

The base is not a perfect bolt on. I had to trim a tiny bit of plastic on the LHD base in order for the mirror to screw onto it.

I dont have any pics of it on car cuz to the naked eye, the look like regular JDM mirrors. But from inside the car, 1/2 my mirror is no longer looking at my back door. Now the entire mirror is looking out onto the road and my blind spots.

Lesson for everyone: Always solder your connections.

Story: One of the first mods I did to my car was install JDM headlights. I didn't know much about electrical back then so when I spliced the wiring for the headlights (and tail lights), I only twisted the wires together and/or used butt connectors and a lot of electrical tape. On my headlights, my high beam was out for the longest time and I would occasionally get headlight flicker on my pass side. For my taillights, people would always tell me that X bulb was out, but everytime I replaced the bulb, the bulb looked fine and another bulb would go "out".

I revisted my headlight and taillight harness this summer and cleaned up and soldered all the connections. This fixed my headlight flicker and high beams and taillights. I also noticed one of my butt connectors looked melted and potentially a fire hazard. Now, everything looks clean and I dont feel embarassed for having a flickering headlight

Why stoptechs over brembo?

because the brembo calipers are slightly bigger (maybe by 20%) and it requires spacers to clear the spokes of the wheels. I think almost everyone with Brembos have 10mm-15mm spacers to get them to fit, or have wheels with <36mm offset. My wheels are still +45 offset with no spacers.

Nice brakes! Are the calipers steel? Did you measure or do you know the piston sizes by any chance? The evo rear brembos are very compact if you decide to go that route, they cleared my 42 offset wheels with plenty of space.

So I couldn't get away without using a spacer entirely. For some reason unknown, the driver side caliper sits 1mm closer to the spokes of my wheels than the passenger side. I had to use these 1mm spacers from Kyoei to space out 1mm on my driver side wheel
http://kyoei-usa.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/kyoei_spacer-2.jpg

This company also makes 2mm spacers (which I also bought a set of)

qnz, can you take a pic of the back of each of the wheels? I think I may have a guess as to why they're sitting strangely. A friend of mine had his issue in the past.

qnz
01-18-2012, 06:17 PM
Its a bit cold to get a pic of the back of the wheel. What did u have in mind?

I dont think its a problem with the wheel because I put my pass side wheel on the driver side and it did the same thing. Im thinking either the bracket they machined is off by 1mm or maybe they sprayed the paint a little too thick. lol

RedGalant2k1
01-29-2012, 11:01 AM
Its not uncommon for a vehicle to be slightly different side to side, and front to back. Then for each of our cars to be slightly different from everyone elses. For instance, Qnz, front subframe might be bolted in slightly different from the factory than mine, or vice versa.

Back in the day, General Motors with the early and mid-80s Firebird's and Camaro's had been having issues with this exact same thing. The wheels were having issues fitting properly. So their solution? They removed the rear brakes on one side only, and installed a spacer behind them. This was because the rear axle wasn't square in the rear frame section.

Blue8g
01-29-2012, 11:38 AM
That's definitely a possibility, although if hasn't occurred for him in the past it could be the wheels.

Hey Aaron, how do you like the wipers? Im planning on buying some at the next BOGO at tire rack but id like to see how you rate them before I buy them.

To be honest, I liked their regular super silicone wipers better than Si-tech ones. The Si tech ones are too clunky (big) looking and theres like 1" on the end of each wiper that doesnt lay flat on the windshield. When driving at 60 mph, they act like little spoilers and flutter a little in the wind. Its slightly distracting. I dont remember the regular super silicone ones doing that.

jubeiaire
07-22-2012, 10:14 PM
Take them back and get your money back if they are flapping around thats a road hazard to you.

qnz
07-23-2012, 08:06 AM
When I say they flutter around, I meant just the 1" tip that doesnt touch the windshield slightly jiggles when driving over 60 mph.

QnzMostWanted
07-23-2012, 08:14 AM
all wipers dont touch the last corner of the window, its just that the regular ones dont jiggle due to the arm holding it down, on the new blades, even tho they wipe much better, they dont have the support as the regular blades have to help prevent it from flapping a bit in the wind

btw, its been a while since I been in ur thread Aaron, car looks great, and I say leave the grille chrome as well

Did some small maintenance on my car before MOD.

Heat stopped working so had to replace the heater control valve. Also replaced the front + rear motor mount. My old mounts were cracked and replaced them with OEM mounts filled with window weld.

After I replaced the front one first, the steering wheel vibration only went up 5% maybe. Now that I replaced the rear one, the steering wheel vibration is up15% at idle. I also seem to "feel" the engine more in the cabin because of the solid mounts. I wonder how much rougher it would've been if I installed my polyurethane mounts. When the car is moving, I don't feel any extra vibration tho

car looks great as always bro! don't color match the grill, instead match it by getting the chrome rear trunk garnish; a little bit of chrome accents the car nicely in front and back like the wheel lips from the sides... not too much chrome but just enough to catch the light. have you ever thought about doing the traditional red diamond star badges (pre-'02 mitsu's) for the grill and trunk?

Some updates.

My auto tranny finally died a couple of months back. It came unexpected so I was unprepared. It drove funny one day, and next day it died. I had the auto tranny rebuilt with some stronger internals and a higher stall tq converter. Not exactly a racing tranny, but it should last me the rest of the life of the car.

My stock radiator developed a leak on the top. I replaced it with an aluminum radiator from PWR. When cruising, my water temps are 12-15 degrees cooler so its definitely more effective than stock.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa170/qnzaaron/3D2064CD-82CB-41C1-BEB1-890EC01E6497-8297-000011E2941760AA.jpg (http://s203.photobucket.com/user/qnzaaron/media/3D2064CD-82CB-41C1-BEB1-890EC01E6497-8297-000011E2941760AA.jpg.html)

I wanted to modify the stock Galant bottom radiator mounts to match the Evo radiator mounting points, so that future Evo radiators could be drop in. However, the Galant front cross member runs right under where the radiator mount needs to be. The shop instead just cut off the bottom pegs and rewelded it to the Galant locations. I also installed a tranny oil cooler and a oil thermostat for it.

wetamup2k3g
04-20-2013, 01:40 PM
If you don't mind me asking, how much did the trans rebuild cost you with the upgraded internals? And how's it drive? I ask because I had a coworker who upgraded his auto with a shift kit, and he said it snapped into every gear after that, but it lasted for as long as he kept the car after that.

qnz
04-20-2013, 10:46 PM

The turbo is a PTE 50 trim journal bearing turbo. I think the part # is SC51 or something. Its t3 flange.

The manifold is an ebay manifold for a 2g eclipse. They are a dime a dozen and cheaply made. In fact, I just bought another one to replace this one because I hear an exhaust leak somewhere.

The front where the sway bar end link mounts are an inch lower than my Teins. Are the Tein mounting points correct or are the KWs? The KWs are pushing my swaybar downward when connected, leading me to think that its the KWs that are wrong.

Didn't see this info posted on the forum so i'll post my experience. I replaced the power steering pulley/tensioner today. The old bearing in the pulley was going. Wow. Would you have to do all that to just remove the whole pump? I'm lazy, I'll get another pump if that's easier. I may need to before long anyway, the noises that pump makes when it's cold outside scares me.

qnz
08-24-2014, 12:31 PM
its not the pulley on the pump, but rather the tensioner under it (its called pulley in ASA). The tensioner is right up against the frame, so you either need to jack up the engine, or lower the engine. I went with lowering it cuz its easier.
