Bored yesterday, so decide to install a 2G turbo air box
Here is the stock...just rubbish.

Here is the 2G air box with a K&N air filter. I need to make a mount or bracket for the air box to keep it stationary.

Whats the difference between the 7g box and the turbo 2g?

Im thinking about doing a custom cold air box with a cone filter inside.

Given it's OE, it has a cripser/sharper throttle response. The total volume is bigger than the stocker and is less restricted too. Planning to add a ram air tube to it in the spring. Oh yeah, cams should be here around Wednesday.

it will fit the 4G64 and it most likely clear the P/S pump and radiator fans but probably will reroute the upper radiator hose. but they are pretty expensive, like $650 w/o shipping costs. hopefully i can get one used for a reasonable price. Here it is in the Accord.

Yes it cluster but it started up but died. Bypass screw was tighten down so open it up and restart. Idles okay. No surge, no stalling. Have not drove it yet but RPM soars when WOT. Tuck some wires to give it a cleaner look, will post pics of that tomorrow along with a possible vid.
Just need to permanently mount the airbox, reposition the throttle cable by 1/4", either extend the wiring for the coilpacks or wire in some GM twin tower coilpacks, and reroute the PCV system with a catch can setup.

Nice! this has been soooo long in the making. I can't wait to see some numbers.

Coolant temp sensor?

are you still running the stock exhaust?

When I had a stock GS I remember hollowing out the cat and it making damn noticable difference in power, throttle response, sound(even through the stock muffler) and top end. It was like a whole different car.

How about one of these? (http://jnztuning.net/shop/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=715&osCsid=bb72efe881bb08756f5a4533286bfac2)

Is that the intake making all that noise? you need to run it into a CAI. And i can see the throttle response is pretty damn good.
What are you going to use for a A/F control? I might jump on the tac trix cable because i want to up the redline.

DOHCstunr

vrsexhaust.com get a 2g GST mandrel tubing kit, and a 30" 2.5" inline magnaflow muffler and a vibrant performance muffler for the back. the sound is like the car should have sounded from the factory. You will get compliments, and you will love being able to hear your music and talk on the highway without a droning exhaust.
Best exhaust combo hands down for our cars(any car really).

As far as the coolant sensor i was wondering why the sensor on top of the tstat housing wasn't hooked up. thats the one i used to for my ECU like stock. Then one of the lower ones for the gauge cluster.

According to ECM Link, the Evo 1-3 and RVR ECU have very slow BAUD transfer rate. The slowest of all other DSM ECUs and thats why they cant be logged. There's a jumper there that needs to be moved in order for the ECU to be logged. I am assuming that after the jumper is put in the correct position, the ECU will be able to be logged with Evo Scan

slowest to log and longest to connect if using the Hybrid feature and can only log about a max of three parameters. I'm using Evoscan 2.7 using the MUTIII protocol since I can't connect using the Hybrid protocol but the Hybrid protocol contains the correct addresses to contain accurate info from the ECU.

mko
04-09-2011, 12:24 PM
yes indeed, plus i want to delete the entire evap system and clean up the engine bay

mysticj
04-09-2011, 06:43 PM
i'm going to try using a resistor to simulate the correct voltage for the EGR temp sensor for the ECU. Do you know what the parameters are for a properly functional EGR system.

mko
04-09-2011, 07:34 PM
I have it somewhere, and Ill look for the temp sensor resistance. The EGR work by the ECU detecting the raise of RPMs acquired by introducing metered air(exhaust gases) into the intake manifold. The temp sensor is there to verify that the incoming gases are actually hot. My first setup was to drill a hole in the EGR and block off the holes so no exhaust gas comes in. It was misfiring really bad cuz it was sucking unmetered fresh air thru that hole. So in order to work that hole needed a line that goes somewhere after the MAS.

I have it set so it draws fresh air thru the IC piping and the temp sensor is hooked up too and so far i havent got any codes. It doesnt bother it that the EGR sees boost, because its not open under boost conditions anyway. The idea was to draw fresh air instead of exhaust gases and keep the IM clean, but Id prefer to remove all that and clean up the engine bay.

The hose going to one of the "A" TB nipples drawing fresh air.

Funny thing is when I log the MAP sensor via EGR temp input, the CEL when off, but skew my timing @ WOT. It uses to be steady around 18* but with the MAP sending data in place of the EGR temp, it bounce around a bit...Not to my liking but I have most of the data I will need though.

Yes. Since the tubes/runners on the header are short you won't notice alot till the upper rpm. I like the sound, just not that loud so I will have the center resonator remove next month to add more depth of the exhaust. Dyno sometime next month for baseline.

How come you don't like COP? Is it the issues that come with them. Of course, for coils that aren't OE but mine are. Mitsu COP for a Mitsu car.

Its electric.
So you get to take the power steering pump off the rotating assembly. Less belts, less parasitic loss, cleaner engine bay, more room to work, quicker service procedure.
Its basically all the win of having a manual steering rack without having to give a battle cry to parallel park.

Also, I imagine there will be a direct benefit to gas mileage without the engine constantly pumping hydraulic fluid.

also, i would have left the trunk carpet in and the rear bench, but removed the rear folding seat back. The bench weighs all of a 2lbs. but the seat back probably weighs close to 30 with all the steel in it.

Well, I remove 90% of the AC system. The only things are left is the ECU for the AC and core. As far as weight reduction goes: No radio & CD player, dash & front speakers, trunk carpet, and cruise control system including the ECU. Next will be the seats(front and rear), remove spoiler, relocate battery to trunk, and hood.

It's best to use Alpha-N tuning for ITBs as the Speed Density doesn't do the job that good. There is no reflash ECU capable of doing Alpha-N tuning so air plenum with a 3G MAS will be use, with a SAFC use for fine tuning.

Ugh.... converting from a gs ecu to the 1g was such a blast.... (-_- )

I printed out an alldata sheet and made a master key for the 7g to 1g spliced harness. I used electricians wire labels to numerically label every wire for both harnesses. I still have that printout and I use it all the time. Its important that you know each and every single wire in your harness. For both cars.

LOL...the RVR and GS ECU are practical the same. Making the harness just would allow me to add a piggyback ECU as well of diagnostic ease. I use the connectors from a Mirage and repin it to match the GS ECU harness then it like doing a 2G to 3G MAS harness. Straightforward.

I have a spare fed spec header to mock up a custom 2-1 and I have a spare XG runner section which I plan on having injector bungs weld into them near the base of the runner to inject fuel down the lower intake manifold.

Hopefully to do the Equal Length Axle and Dual Piston Calipers Mods by the end of the month. Switch to a #501 MAS from the #011 as the #011 flow a tad more than the ECU would handle w/o a SAFC to compensate(Hard starting at times, almost stalling on deceleration). I kept the #011 honeycomb mesh and snatch a #482 airhorn for a hybrid MAS setup once I get a SAFC & WBO2. Also, leaning towards a MAFT Pro for the ITBs

Running out of things to remove to lower the weight without going too extreme, i.e. no carpets.
For the front: slim radiator fans, remove PS bracket; adding the dual piston calipers and larger rotors will bring the weight back up.
For the middle/cabin: remove sound deafening, sunroof.
For the rear: Nothing left to remove.

Finally install some Volvo S40 280mm front rotors with the 1G Diamante dual piston calipers. Had to grind the upper and lower section of the calipers to fit the rotors. Also make some hardlines with the new brake hoses I find off a Mighty Max. Works great!

Also install a new radiator from a 97 Galant that was in the yard. Running about 15* cooler now.

So S40 parts fit 7G's? I was talking to Pernir and he wanted to use the S40 manual trans, and I found out that Mitsu supplied Volvo with the platform for the 1G S40. My thought was that the S40 would be more compatible with the 8G though. Still, good news if other parts will fit at least one gen of Galants!

Well, had some misfire lately and the last couple of weeks it was getting worse. I notice some leakage at the intake manifold/head area. So I decide to change the gasket, as I was pulling the manifold off I heard some thing fell. To my surprise it was a piece of the manifold. Don't know how, other than possible fatigue or vibration. All other runners at the flange have a semi circle crack. There goes the era of my snapping throttle response.

Yes, with the Cyclone and 65mm TB the engine was more response and when the butterflies open at 4300rpm, the rpm climbs hard. With the 1G IM and 60mm TB, is a smoother climb in power, subtle yet noticeable.

In other words, I loss some low to midrange torque.

I could but it will take more time to put them back in if I want to drive the kids around town. LOL

The ITB, they are more or less still on the table. Converting to an Evo/Lancer ECU and reflash with a SD ROM is an option, as well as using a MAFT PRO.
They[ITB] will definitely max out my current setup but the driveabitily will definitely decrease. The price for Borla/TWM air box went up and having one ship from oversea [UK] is not even worth it. There is a guy in PR running a 4G64 SOHC in a Mirage making 232whp and since then, I'm slowing collecting parts for a SOHC project.

A little update:
If anyone remember awhile back in a post I mention about creating a hybrid MAF using the #011 honeycomb with the #482 airhorn? Well anyway, I try using the #482 airhorn on the #501 MAF and the ECU/engine HATES it. The car runs as it had a misfire and running lumpy. So I switch back to the original airhorn for the #501. The #482 airhorn/MAS isn't meant to run on a NA I4 without sometype of compensation. The #011 and #501 MAS can run on a 7G with a little readjustment of the TPS and BISS screw.
So what I gather up is this: The #011 MAS flows a tad more than the #501 while the #482 and #399 outflows the #011. I have decel stalling issues with the #011 but thats when I was running the 6G74 TB and Cyclone Manifold, I still have the #011 mesh so I will try that over the weekend. The #501 and #011 MAS are identical on the outside and the other noticeable difference is that the #501 has a metal honeycomb mesh while the #011 has a plastic square mesh.

Luckily, I found another ecu and swap that in and reflash. Voila! Now I'm looking for a good place to mount this AEM UEGO in the car.

No real update, been driving the car every once in awhile, feels good but I need to fix an exhaust leak near the WO2 as it affecting my AFR. 2018 maybe my last year with the car, looking into finding a decent 09 Galant V6 Sport or a 3G. I have a bare block 6G75 wrapped in the garage as well as a 6G75 IM/fuel rail. Planning on destroking it with a 74 crank and run some Ralliart Magna spec cams.
