Reincarnated - Soul has moved to different body =)

So I got my new G today from New Hampshire (5+ hours away), I will be swapping my old engine and tranny into this new shell. The galant is silver+ugly baby blue or some crap lol. It'll be going in the garage and coming out Gold just like the old G! (EDIT: I've decided to go with Rotor Glow Orange instead of gold)

Plans are to strip it down a bit and get it ready for paint. I will be using some metal from my old galant to fix this one where it needs it. The underbody is in decent condition as well. Exhaust and all will be moved over.

Here are some pics:

I agree, let your old G keep its identity, & start this new one with its own, but make it even better. Interior looks pretty decent, this car should turn out well.

Nice work man, keep updating the thread as you make progress. As for color choice, paint it whatever color you like. There are some sick new colors out there on the 2010 and 2011 cars that might spark your interest. I know lexus/toyota has a beige color thats a little darker than normal with a ton of flake in it, its sick.

Thanks man. I felt better when I had it back on the driveway. It almost got hit on the way back after nightfall because people in newburg, ny were a bunch of assholes. I would say just this guy, but everyone it seemed was cutting everyone else off. People texting with their infants in the back. I can say more but you get the point.

YEAH BUDDY! I say paint it the same color as the Talon lol

It crossed my mind. I still might.

i hope you got it on the cheap. it looks beat up.

i know you'll make it better than the last!

I got it for $1000. The engine doesn't run, but it seems the starter clutch is seized or just plain the engine is. That crap doesn't bother me, I just wanted the shell and one that hasn't been hit hard before. I think I probably paid too much but I really don't care at this point, I just wanted a galant back that seemed to be in decent shape and v6 (for the ecu/wiring harness).

I liked TJ's car back in the day, the metallic sunset orange from the corvette c6.
I like my gold obviously, but if I were to pick a real clean color, I think I would go with the same one I did my gsx wheels in. Gunmetal grey. I might look into some other colors but we'll see.

ya. you can change a lot of things on a car, but you cant fight rust, if there is any.

yea, there is some rust here and there. But I can sand blast where the rust is on the body and then hit it with primer when its down to bare steel.

Nice one man the good thing, no matter what color you paint it, you have a nice GRAY interior. I hate the tan interiors. The leather looks good and those wheels aren't bad. Put that blueish gray you put on your other wheels on those and they just might make the car look great

I'm glad you are jumping right back into this

Lol, thanks. Can't rush perfection though. I'll only go as fast as perfect will let me.

Anyway, I think I'm going warmandscsi orange lol! Orange is my favorite color and I absolutely love the shine the car has in the sun.

Sorry if you guys don't like it but for me to change the color, its as easy as scratch it and do it again.

Keith, I admire your spirit. You are one of the few people that shares the same value of the G as I do. To some people it's just a car and as soon as it is taken away from them they move on to a different platform. To you and I, it's life.

Thanks man I appreciate it. What you just said is very true and I'm glad there are more people like me out there that appreciates the g like I do.
I go about my day getting things done. The rest of my time is thinking about what I'm going to do to the car next, what my next paycheck will buy me, or how close I am to my goals with the galant.

Losing my galant was like losing a part of what I love in life. Just having another to continue what I wanted to do, makes me feel so much better.

I'm glad there are people like us who found something in the g that they can never let go.

Sunset Orange Metallic - PPG code: 5677 GM oem code : 71

That's what TJ put on his car. I think it looks great in the sun but just plain in the shade/garage.

I believe the pearl paint is sunset pearl. Thats what is used on the mitsubishi eclipse 06-2011. Not sure if that has any metal flakes in it.

Might get the oem Lancer paint called: Rotor Glow orange. I think that looks pretty hot too!

Anyway, I have a lot of work to do this weekend. Picked up primer to do the entire car and enough fiberglass/body filler to coat the entire car lol! Just need to get the shell out of the garage and start working on the new g. Should be fun, I guess.

I was reading from post 1 of this thread and saw the progression from original color of the G to TJ's Corvette Sunset Orange and the second I saw orange I said, EVO Rotor Glow Orange.

Forget all other colors, if you want to do orange, do the Rotor Glow Orange, and I'm not biased because I joined the Evo family, take a look at the Rotor Glow thread on EvolutionM, sick sick color!!

I was thinking Tj's orange was a little dark for my tastes. It looks great in the sunlight, but too red when the suns not on it.

I think the evo color would look great on my car.
I just need to get some one to photoshop that orange on for me now lol!

First thing I did when I went home was took some stuff I needed from the old G. I removed the engine from the new G, Swapped some of the old g parts on, Welded the old g's metal where the new G needed it =) , Cleaned out the engine bay and getting it ready for primer, removed the door panels, and took that damaged hood off.

I should be done in a month or so.

lol.. I had to edit the pics a second time.

The squiggly's are where a reflection spot is not deflecting light properly. Going to use a very thin layer of body filler to help make it baby ass smooth lol.

I only have friday night to sunday afternoon to work on the g, every weekend. So basically I come inside for something to eat or to sleep at night. Every other second is spent outside in the garage.

IDK, the 74 just seems like a more plausible platform to upgrade with more power potential. If u sold all those 72's you'd have enough money to buy a 74, build & boost it probably. It bolts up without wiring harness/ECU mods IIRC, and will exceed your expectations of HP in contrast to the 72. The 72 has been boosted before, havent seen a boosted 74 on here yet. Just my opinion..

I drilled out the clutch pedal and wire holes, cut the jdm heads out of the radiator support. I'm just going to re-locate the battery while I've got everything apart.

This weekend will be fixing the rest of that rear quarter. I'm having line up issues with it right now but a few adjustments and I should have it. The only thing left is to do after the rear quarter is fixing dents around the car. I need to sand the car down and and prime it. I plan on painting/clearing the engine bay so I can put the engine/tranny in. Then I can move it to the other bay to spray the rest. If this weekends body fixing goes well, It should be smooth sailing from there.

This weekends progress 3/13

Thanks! I don't need the old style fogs. That's what's being put in the bumper. Still scratching my head on how I'm going to mount the projectors, but I'll figure something out.

Lol no kidding! Rust and no body line would have been harder to "fix". I plan on old style side skirts yes, but it will be painted first. Unfortunately I need the car to be on the road. I'll just end up painting the skirts later.

lol thanks bro. I try very hard when it comes to working on cars I like. My entire weekend is dedicated to the car when I'm home. Maybe since It'll be nice out, I'll skip out an hour and take the dirt bike out.

It would take us too long probably. You'd have to bring a friend so we can sand the entire car in 4-5 hours. That's probably an accurate guess for sanding alone.

I'll be swinging shorts around. I honestly can't wait to be in a jdmish galant again. I was so happy when I put my 3rd gen tails on during my first accident with the old g. Looking at this bone stock g, I just went to town ripping all that off lol.

When my g was a 5spd, I had a sense of pride that no one around me had a 5spd galant. When I pull out of gas stations with other g's in it and go from a rev to a gradual go. That was ultimate satisfaction for me.

Can't wait to have that feeling again. Rotor glow orange will throw a nice twist in it for me I think.

Now thats a plan! I'll make sure the party is walking distance lol.

Going to take you all spring to get a friend!? haha jk! I should be all settled in by then. After paint I'll be working on the small stuff that makes me mad about this car. Summers a good time because I'm out of school and all. So if you really wanted to get something like this going, let me know.

Thanks guys! I got all the auto stuff out and started mounting up the manual. Going to pick up my rotor glow paint tomorrow or wednesday afternoon. I took friday off from work so I can get everything taken care of for sure. I hope she's done by sunday night.

Things left to do:

finish wheel well up
get the engine/tranny in
rewire the reverse wires
rewire auto harness for manual swap
put new gas pump in
put my old exhaust on and re-weld brackets
tape the car off and remove chrome from doors
sand the car with 600 grit
prime the car
sand the primer with 2000 grit sandpaper
paint after removing residue
clear coat
put the brake rotors back on
buff scratches out of the headlights
paint side skirts/fog lights/grill with metallic grey
hook up power steering
mount spoiler
mount rear visor
get it inspected

quite the list, but I think I can do it in a week.

Thanks guys! I got all the auto stuff out and started mounting up the manual. Going to pick up my rotor glow paint tomorrow or wednesday afternoon. I took friday off from work so I can get everything taken care of for sure. I hope she's done by sunday night.

Things left to do:

finish wheel well up
get the engine/tranny in
rewire the reverse wires
rewire auto harness for manual swap
put new gas pump in
put my old exhaust on and re-weld brackets
tape the car off and remove chrome from doors
sand the car with 600 grit
prime the car
sand the primer with 2000 grit sandpaper
paint after removing residue
clear coat
put the brake rotors back on
buff scratches out of the headlights
paint side skirts/fog lights/grill with metallic grey
hook up power steering
mount spoiler
mount rear visor
get it inspected

quite the list, but I think I can do it in a week.

you forgot to add to the list:

paint mko's car

Looking good, cant wait to see it finished

I'm so jealous of everyones normal sunroof. I bought a pos galant =/ with a custom sun roof that was apparently cut in and barely functional.

ahh dealer installed roof heh? they are all the same look. i had one on my first galant and after a while they suck... i would personally just go ahead and install an oem sun roof. or just weld some sheet metal up there and close it. obviously i have faith you would be able to do either or flawlessly. you would be just better off to do it now rather then later. it will save you some headache in the future and of coarse look cleaner too

the seals and other parts wear out fast on the dealer ones and are very hard and nearly impossible to get nowadays

weird part is, the hoses and all look oem (identical to that drain system I grabbed for you last year). I'll be scratching my head until I pull the roof down. I don't even want to know whats under it lol. I really wanted a sun roof and leather so I was a little hasty when buying it.

works quite well with the stock alloys. You could always just clean them up, plastidip them, then just paint them whatever color. If you don't like it, just peel off the paint.

Remove the glove box, then remove the blower motor box (big black box) behind the glove box, ECU is right behind there, its a little bit of a PITA to get to the bolts but i've done it a few times. Its about a 1hr job.

I forgot to tell you guys I had fixed the problem. I had some vacuum lines confused on the engine making the cruise control come on by itself making it rev upon start-up.
Anyway, I'll be flashing an 04 m/t ecu for my turbo build so I will be changing it anyway. Thx for the info. When I took my old ecu out of my car I had to take the dash off. I didn't know the bolt locations so...

Glad to hear you got it running. Dont feel bad about pulling the dash. I actually pulled that cover that goes over the passenger side airbag out. Its nearly impossible to get out, took me about 2 hours. Then I realized that its bolted to the airbag housing and not the dash support, so I didnt need to remove it in order to take the airbag out. Lesson learned. I did that about 2 or 3 times before I figured it out.

lol! On the old galant, I just cut those damn rope-like straps in there. I only wanted to ecu from it. Didn't think it would be so much work lol. I'll have to drop the blower motor out and see if I can get to that top bolt. Looks like its going to be a pain.

its not too bad for the v6, i can get it out in a few min... you actually really dont even need to remove the glove box, although it will give you a little more maneuvering room.

when you get under the pass side of the dash and are laying on your back pill the black cover out under the gb thats held on with push clips. pull the carpet back a bit and you will see the vent which goes under the pass side of the dash... just pull on it till it comes out. the ecu is right behind it. you should be able to see the 1 bolt which holds it in (iirc) but its one 10mm bolt, take it out and push the ecu up till it slides out of the track it sits in.... voila....

Nothing worth posting pics up. I'm real close to putting some color on. Everything is taped off, spoiler is on fitted and sanded, rear bumper is fitted, rear extensions all fixed up, and took care of some trunk cabin rust. I'll be home all week this week, so I'll definitely be working on it 4-5 hours a day. I'm hoping to get some primer on it and look for anything I missed.

This is the car with just the primer on and the sealer over top of the primer. You can change the shade of the car by adding a dark or light sealer. In my case, a dark sealer for the dark orange look.

clear coat. It's so hard to see and it doesn't start to run until you walk away lol. It's an easy fix really.

He's right, you really need some kick ass wheels to compliment the rest of the aggressive look of the car. Something along the lines of Stewi and Ivory8G's wheels. 18"s or 19"s, wide, good offset, but perfectly flush with the fenders.

Thx for the compliments guys. It only took me like 5 months lol!!

I have evo x gsr wheels in the garage, hopefully going on eventually this summer. I also have the new style side skirts to keep the flow of the front bumper and rear skirts/bumper.
