View Full Version : Shifter trim

So the trim around my shifter is busted, I went to the local junkyard and the only Galants they had were automatics. I placed an order with a dealership for the part and they sent an email back saying they no longer stock that part. I removed the shift boot and what was left of the trim so I have a big open space around my shifter and I'm sick of this eye sore. Does anyone know of an aftermarket trim for the 7g or any other fix for this issue? I'm having no luck finding a replacement trim. I plan on putting a short throw shifter in the car and an aftermarket or custom shift boot (from redline). Any ideas?

Thanks

Auto trims work with the stock rubber boot

the stock one is so hard to find its pointless unless you want to pay 25 bucks for a new one at the dealer

on ebay a guy makes leather ones for our cars, it will say 91-93 but its the same thing. im going to get that

Don't know how?

Anyway, I think this is the shift boot on ebay that Galanttuner mentioned. If anyone is interested.

measure the height you want it, measure the bases and the tops, cut 4 triangles

sides will be the same
front and rear will most probably be different
leave some material round the sides for sowing

and bob's your uncle, new shifter boot

So I was able to get some free time today and decided to go check a couple junkyards and every galant I found had the shifter trim taken already. Does anyone know where I can find this part, maybe online somewhere or hopefully someone has one laying around that they'd be willing to sell?

Are you talking about the auto trim because I don't think that anyone is going to give up the manual trim if they do have it?

Random question...is the eclipse short shifter shorter than ours? I mean my short shifter looks like an 18 wheeler shifter! LOL I love it, but looking at MKO's I want a shorter one. Maybe not quite as short as his....but shorter than what I have

That's actualy 4grims I think. Mko was just using it as an example.

Manual or Auto trim, I don't care either way. According to MKO's post the Auto trim will work, so I went back to the junkyard and checked ALL the 7g Galant's, the trim was taken from all of them. I've searched ebay and didn't find anything, does anyone have any ideas?

So any ideas on something else to use other than the OEM shifter trim? I've been asking people on ebay that were selling 7G interior parts but still haven't had any luck.

I still wanna know if the short shifter from an eclipse is shorter than the one for the galant. I think they fit the same but I want one shorter

What brand short shifter did you get Evil? I've seen a lot of people say to buy a B&M Replica short shifter but I've never seen a short shifter marketed as a B&M replica.

dont buy any short shifters, really. Its a waste of money even for the real one.

The replicas get very sloppy after a few months. Skrap had it on his car and it had enormous play .

Just pull the stock one out, cut 1.5'' below the threads and make another cut right after the bend. Weld the the two straight pieces together

I dont have any access to welding materials. I have the replica...I like it but its just not short enough

Well if you want a short shifter as short as in MKO's pics, that's the way to do it. I don't have access to welding materials either but I'm sure you could find a shop to do it for you and I doubt it'd cost that much, especially if you make the cuts yourself and then just take it to get welded back together.
