Just Rolled over 220k.

I recently did:

Water Pump (Napa-but its made by Gates)

Timing & balance shaft belt w/ new idlers (Gates kit)

Gates drive belts, upper and lower hoses

Gates a/c p/s tensioner pulley

New radiator, thermostat and refilled w/ fresh 1 3/4 gallons of Prestone 50/50.

Also all 4 mounts got exchanged for new ones

Fixed oil leak from can seal, so while that was apart did valve cover gaskets, plug grommets, spark plugs and pcv valve. She's running better than ever.
Maintenance is key for making it to the 200 club.

how much u pay for pump. i get a funny noise from mine when idle. when i put it in drive and hold the brake pedal it gets little deeper. so i think its the water pump. i replace the compresor and the belt when i did the 4 mounts. its not loud but its annoying when u idle with the radio off. but the car is not over heating or anything

oakrdrs187
01-30-2013, 02:34 PM
^^ more than I should have, it came out to almost $80, when the Gates pump is 45ish on rock auto, but I needed it that day, I had the car apart and the shit pump from Oreilly had a bad weep hole seal, and I wasn't about to buy a durablast from AZ, so Napas TFW was my choice, says Gates corporation right on the box where it states the distribution info.

I originally was using the white LEDs for the 8gb gauge cluster until I got tired of looking at the green cluster during daytime, then I was like, "I miss my GTZ gauges" so swap them back in & wondered how they would look like with the LEDs.

126k on my 02 v6. Just lost my second tranny. Terrible, terrible transmissions. Just before that, I think my timing belt tensioner failed prematurely and it jumped timing on me. Don't have my GTI anymore, so cruisin' an '84 LeBaron Turbo 'til I can hopefully gather parts for a manual conversion. Not wasting my time on any more of the auto garbage boxes these came with. Same thing just happened to my friend's nephew's Stratus R/T.
Water pump also failed after only 40k miles. Bearing seized. I should probably just get a new ride, but I just have a hard time letting go of the G.

I agree with autos on the v6 being garbage but nonsense getting rid of the car over some replacement parts lol. Buy quality stuff when it comes to important timing parts, won't have to worry about it for another 60k miles (if you go by the book).

^^You can go without changing the oil in an engine, it's something the auto repair industry doesn't want you to know about. They scare you with all these stories of thrown rods and engines locking up and whatnot, but it's all bullshit, BULLSHIT I TELL YOU! The molecular structure of the break-in oil that car manufacturers use has special properties that bond to the metal for the life of the engine, but if you ever change the oil, you lose that benefit and have to keep using the oil that the oil companies sell.

True story.

And while I'm at it, anyone want some of this Lehman Brothers stock and oceanfront property in Idaho I got for sale? For a small non-refundable fee, I'll sell you the certified winning numbers for Saturday's powerball too.

Oh, and my mileage to keep it all on topic:

Hi, first post to board for me. I have a 1999 GTZ Galant and 245,135 miles. I have owned it for a little over a year now and have been taking care of the neglect from previous owner(s). Like new brakes and rotors, new plugs and wires, new seats, new windshield, etc. I really like this car, and only have one complaint: I can never put anything in that cubby-hole under the air/heat controls with out it flying out when I step on the gas. : ) That 3.0L engine sure packs a punch!
Thanks! Scott
