Well here goes nothing...

Hey guys, my name's Brian, i'm 20, i fix welders and plasma cutters for a living, and i've had vehicle experience with everything from a custom turbo'd Hyundai Tiburon GT to a 450whp Camaro Z28 to a restored 1986 Toyota 4Runner.

I had been daily driving my 1986 4Runner (with 275K on it) and decided i wanted something that gets better mileage. Near my mom's house I saw a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant in a guys driveway and decided i'd go find out what he was asking.

It had 262K on it, it's a 4cyl, and wasn't in the best of shape. We cut a deal and $1000 lighter, she was mine.

At first, to the joy of my girlfriend I vowed that i wasn't going to modify it in any way.

Unfortunately for her, last week i found TGC, that night I bought a set of 17" Kosei K1 wheels...

The mod bug had bit me once again...

So here are my plans, laid out in a linear fashion so you guys can see what i plan on doing/what I have done.

First things first, the list!

1.1 Appearance

-Paint (bright red)
-JDM tail lights
-JDM head lights
-CF hood (painted to match body)
-New grille
-JDM front bumper
-Some sort of lip (maybe)

1.2 Suspension

-Kosei K1 17x7.5 (got em)
-Tein lowering springs
-Anti-sway bars (are there any for the Galant?)
-Strut bar(s)
-Hankook Ventus V2 Concept tires 225/45-17

1.3 Performance

-Turbo and all that goes with it (wether that be a kit or a custom job)
-Sonata 5spd swap
-Megan Racing Drift Spec exhaust (or ebay equivalent, i heard its the same)

That's all I can think of (for now)! Stay tuned guys!

There are anti sway bars for the galant, there is addco and some others.I would use an eclipse transmission instead of the sonata. The sonata is still kind of an experiment.

Eclipse, hmm that will be even easier to find. I didn't know that the Sonata was still a project in the making. I need to do more homework.

Do you have a 4 cylinder or a v6?I am not sure if anyone used it on a 4 cylinder but i only know of one guy on here who has it on a v6.

The 3g eclipse transmissions are a little easier to find.Did you decide if you are going to go with a 2g clutch set up or 3g?

To be honest i haven't looked into it that far yet. What are the benefits of using one over the other?

The 2g set up is lighter if you plan to use a stock flywheel,if you use this set up you will have to use a 2g manual starter. If you use the 3g the flywheel it is a little heavier but you would still need to change your starter to a 3g manual. So the lighter the flywheel the faster the engine will pick up.You could use a fidanza flywheel or act flywheel if you wanted to also.

Ah i see, i ran a Fidanza 9lb flywheel on my Tiburon, to be honest, i didn't like the way it felt, hard to shift smoothly at low RPM's. If it's going to be like that then i will go 3g, otherwise i'd go 2g.

06-27-2011, 06:51 PM
yeah the fidanzas are really light that is why,the stock ones arent like that. The weight difference isnt much between the two,it is whatever you decide both will work.

I was at Harry's yesterday there were a few second gen Eclipses there. I've been to Joe's once. I can get a trans from Hanas (they pull it for you) if worse comes to worse.

My thoughts about turbo;

I'm debating wether or not I should piece the turbo stuff together or just try to find a kit. I know that piecing stuff together allows you to customize exactly what you want. But it's often a challenge getting the necessary piping and other parts. What do you guys think? Are there even kits available? Should I get a basic kit and swap parts at my liberty?

Thanks guys

Do a search for turbo and go to club3g.com create a account and research there the majority of the info on turbo is there. You can use dsm exhaust manifold, evo 8/9 aftermarket exhaust manifolds with 2 1/2 inch spacers, or go custom

Galantman03
06-30-2011, 07:03 PM
I have a dsm manifold fits ok.... lol the only issue is the o2 housing, the o2 sensor is like a finger width away from a/c compressor so yea.... There are no kits. evo 8 ICP fits, I am using that, but the LICP will need to be modified no matter what. as far as the intercooler itself... I'm using an evo 8, BUT i removed my front crash bar. As far as exhaust, you will have to have a custom down pipe made.

I might just use the DSM manifold then, it will be easy to find and as long as the 02 sensor stays away from rubbing on the A/C compressor then i'm happy.

As far as ICP, i assume you mean the injection control pressure sensor? What do you mean by LICP?

I'm not worried about the intercooler, that will be easy enough to grab. Same goes for the down pipe, i have a friend who owes me a favor.

New injectors
Bigger Fuel rail
255lph fuel pump(for an evo 8)

and then alot of other stuff lol
but Ill let you find the rest :)

most of the stuff is going to be different... example
You can either use evo 8 injectors or wrx injectors.
Evo 8 injectors need a resistor box to work because they are low impedance.
I used blue wrx injectors rated to 565cc, plug and play because they are HIGH impedance BUT on stock ecu they flood the engine out at 4000 rpm

Hit up the junkyard over the weekend looking for a few things, I found the following;

-Turn signal and windshield wiper levers (my wiper lever is broken, needed a new one and didn't feel like paying $43 at the stealership)
-Cruise control (why not, I only paid $1 and it was already pulled from the car hah i just had to unscrew it from the wheel)
-Spare valve cover (to powdercoat)
-Fuel door (the hinge on mine is broken)
I was also looking for a 5 spd trans (which i did find from a 7G galant but if i'm not mistaken, it won't work because the trans is on the opposite side from the 8G, right?) Also no luck finding a V6 throttle body or Outlander intake manifold... oh well

P.S. pulled the mirrors off a 97' Honda Accord for the mirror swap but when i held them up to the mirror spot on one of the junked 8G's they didn't appear to fit at all... the curvature that the 8G mirrors have wasn't there on the Accord mirrors so I didn't take em...

That it does, BUT! It will be beneficial in case my head decides it wants to smash through the windshield in an accident.

P.S. pulled the mirrors off a 97' Honda Accord for the mirror swap but when i held them up to the mirror spot on one of the junked 8G's they didn't appear to fit at all... the curvature that the 8G mirrors have wasn't there on the Accord mirrors so I didn't take em...
Doesn't fit huh? Fascinating....

I'm just curious on how you're going to fit jdm heads/grille without modifying to fit. Just saying.

I was talking about the contour of the mirrors, I know you have to drill to get the studs to line up.

And yes i have already started the cutting necessary for the JDM stuff.

The DIY says 94'-97' and the ones I pulled were off a car made in 97' so i wasn't sure if it was a 97' model year or a 98'

I'll take some today, I seemed to have it got it driveable now.

Yeah i know its carbon fiber but the gauges themselves are different.
I'm not 100% sure what the big turbo is but it's made by Schweitzer.

the gauges would be the AC Technic inverted (or whatever it's called gauges) from YEARS ago. Hell I can't even remember the exact name of the brand, but they don't make those anymore. Some Ebay brands have pretty much come out with the same product though. These gauges were the first available gauges of this type for the Galant I believe, and I know the OG's had something to do with getting the product made.

I could NEVER run that massive turbo on the Galant haha I just couldn't pass it up because the price was right.

Those gauges are AC AutoTechnic S7 Gauges. I have a set also that I bought in '07-08. I have a feeling those gauges mightve came off of a TGC members/lurkers car. Because they cleared the needles too, which is something that was popular for alot of the members on here. (We have a tutorial on it as well.)

Thanks for providing the name, i was curious lol. It definitely could have been a member from here although I do believe that the car they came out of was otherwise 100% stock.

Do you have any pics of yours at night?

In a sense.

From the guy on Fitfreak:

http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/4056/biturboserieou6.jpg
Where on the exhaust side the small turbo gets fed first and then the wastegate and turbine discharge are both routed into the big turbo and then to the tail pipe. And on the intake side the big turbo is feeding into the small turbo.

This produces insane spool and torque with huge top end. It's also incredibly efficient. So the small turbo will be in the traditional position on the back of the block by the firewall, and the big turbo will be mounted in the factory battery location over the transmission.

For reference on the turbos I am discussing the 14B (35lbs/min max or ~320whp) is considerably bigger then the GT25R (28lbs/min or 240whp) 90% of the turbo fit's on this forum are running. I am considering running a 14B and an HX35.

Hope that explains it...I know I can't even dream of explaining it lol
