Okay this might not be the most exciting build cause i'm still 15 and can't make a lot of money and I don't think I'm going to do anything big to the Galant. My dad got it for $3000 with 90k miles on it, then two years later he gave it me.

Don't mind the riced out tahoe, he used to be a cooker where I work at.

At first I knew nothing about Galants or never heard about them. I wanted an Integra as a first car and I also wanted to put a type r front on it if I got one. But I guess I fell in love with the Galant when my dad had it and it was the car where I learned how to drive. He was about to sell it until I told him I would buy it, but he decided he will just give it to me.

So before i knew about TGC, this was my plan for it:
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/4972/img2392m.png
Yea, go ahead and laugh

So the bulbs in the gauges blew out and I did this until i got new ones:
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/3433/img1829y.jpg

and here is how I would turn them on:
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/7530/img1770l.jpg

next thing I did was the grille mod:
http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/2540/img1582xq.jpg

Then I painted it:
http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/237/img1625so.jpg

http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/9641/img1637df.jpg

shaved the trunk:
http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/9122/img1580ns.jpg

painted the wood trim (just got to do the trim on the doors now):
http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/876/img2391xc.jpg

So now that I ran out of free mods I decided to go JDM. I think I might be the only one in Iowa with a JDM front and maybe the first one too. I bought a fiberglass old style bumper because I couldn't find an OEM one.

I trim the crash bar:
http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/1857/img2191jy.jpg

bought some foglights from Galantman03:
http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/7118/img1860jm.jpg

test fitted the bumper, need to paint it:
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/5619/img2016sq.jpg

then I bought some JDM headlights:
http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/1936/img2206e.jpg

and got a JDM grille from sAnDiEgOVR4
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/9293/img2142.png

I update this when I get all my JDM stuff on the Galant. Now i want to save some money for lowering springs or new rims because I don't like the wheel gap and my rims aren't looking so great:
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/9830/img1898sr.jpg
and I'm missing bolt.

Skyforger

Not bad so far.

The wheels can easily be saved, nothing some sandpaper, primer and paint can't fix!

But don't leave a lug missing on that bolt for too long, or it'll just rust over and need replacement.

damn you are alot farther then i was at 15 with my G. At that time i was putting exhaust on it and rebuilding the head with cleared turns and steelies. IF you want you car to look like your sig i would recommend just getting coilovers, and for that much of a drop you would need something like the BC racing Br series extreme drop kit.(I wish i would have done that in the first place with mine) But you are off to a great start

I couldn't find an oem jdm bumper so I just bought a fiberglass one, I want to get some enkei rpf1s and told my dad if he could help me pay for them but he said no.

It's my dads, I already told about that he said he likes them and wouldn't get new ones. Well I think I might save some cash to lower it because I really don't like the wheel gap in the front.

Talk to some of the other wheel guru's on here, depending on the offset, and the use of spacers and rolled fenders, 8" will fit, I plan on throwing some 18 x 8" rims on mine shortly.

Guys that said no you wanting 8" wide wheels are full of Caca's.

Here's what you need. Scroll down to wheel fitment section. There's even a G with 20x9.5 that stick out a bit because of the low offset.
Maybe Cody (Blue8g) can find you a set for more cheaps than your local shop, like he did for Adrian (Beam514)

Do they rub?

greddy
08-16-2011, 11:12 PM
they'll rub in the rear, just roll your rear fenders and no more rub, people have been running 17x8 +38 evo 7-9 wheels for a long time with just a rear fender roll depending on tire size, unless the offset is something stupid in the teens, you'll be fine...

beam514
08-16-2011, 11:41 PM
17x8 +45 with 215/50/17 don't rub at all. Fenders aren't even rolled. When the suspension is compressed, there is like 2 or 3mm of clearance from the inner fender lip I think.

Those will be just fine, they will make your car sit a bit lower and the profile will be slightly smaller. IMO 225/45/17 the way to go. More wide = better grip on corners. Not to mention you will be running 8" wide wheels, 215's will stretch.

take the intake piping off at the tb and spray some cleaner on a rag and wipe the inside clean.

i had to use a hanger to reach all the way in.

So I don't have to take off the iac?

Haha, I was searching around how to clean the tb but I couldn't find anything, and I remember somebody saying on a thread that you should remove the iac before cleaning it or you could damage it the iac. I think it stands for idle air control.

Okay, so after cleaning my tb I drove around my neighborhood and decided to drive to my cousin's house since he lives near by. When I got on his driveway it turned off. After helping him with his car we decided to take the galant around the block. It didn't turn off and when we got back it almost did, but then it started to idle normal. We left it turned on for awhile and it seemed normal again.

09-07-2011, 10:16 PM
Did you disconnect your battery recently? If so everything reset it self and it should start idling normal again after like 100mi, mine did the same when I installed a new battery. Also check your battery with a digital multi meter if u have one or know how to use it, if not just take it so autozone and get it checked and ask for a print out of the battery specs they came out with, because some of the people will say you need a new battery when you really don't yet.

if you're just going to be wiping down the surfaces in the TB, I wouldn't worry about removing the IAC. Just try not to let debris/gunk fall into all the holes in the TB. If you're going to be actually spraying something into it, I would remove it.

I just wiped mine down from side to side and pull back out thinking that would be safer, and less chances of anything falling downward in the manifold. Also inspected to see if i see any loose debris sitting past the butterfly that could later get sucked in. Never had any issues with CEL or anything

Yesterday my mom didn't let me drive my car cause the snow, so she was going to take my sister to school in my car, and my dad's snow plow truck was parked really close to my car. When she backed up the snow plow made a dent and peeled some paint off my car. But they said when summer comes they are going to get all the dents on the car removed and get it repainted.

My car had been turning off again, I checked the throttle body and it's pretty clean. It started turning off after I replaced my eBay relay harness with one from TRS. My stereo was set to Loud: On (which give the songs a lil bit more bass), so I switched it off and the car stopped dying every time I stopped. My dad says it could be something with the alternator. But couldn't it also be my battery?

Painted my valve cover, added a spectre filter to get rid of the stock air filter box, also painted the 6g74 intake manifold and installed it:

I'm thinking about getting an Injen intake later on, don't really like how big the spectre filter is but it's the only one the store had that fitted the adapter. I also don't like how the stock intake pipe looks, lol!

Skyforger
03-21-2012, 10:30 PM
I know I have the 4G64, but the AEM intake is excellent. IIRC, I think there's one for your 6G72 too.

Guzm4n
03-21-2012, 10:34 PM
Yea there is, but I read that the AEM one rubs against the battery if you have the 6g74 intake manifold but the Injen one doesn't.

Skyforger
03-21-2012, 11:15 PM
The battery rub is an easy fix, they make padded battery shrouds. I know with GMs, they come with one (maybe score one from a boneyard) and the ones with 75 series batteries are similar in size the ones Galants have.

M-Rod
03-22-2012, 10:17 AM
A padded shroud will not help since the battery hold down bolts will still be outside the shroud. In my instance, I relocated the battery because my Injen intake would not fit properly after my Diamante plenum swap.

I'd rather have stock piping with a K&N or some other cone filter than waste $200 on a CAI....

oakrdrs187

^^It really is pretty much the same thing. I replaced mine only because the resonator close to the TB fell off and the tape would no longer hold up to the summer heat, but up until then I ran the stock tube and specter filter. And in the short year I had the aluminum eBay pipe it had already started to show wear from the battery.

why?

Blue8g
03-22-2012, 11:49 PM
Not like any real gains will be mad either way, why not just stick with something that will always fit like OEM?

4g63lover
03-23-2012, 12:12 AM
So why not stick with the OEM airbox as well?

OEM is not always better. Take it from someone who works on OEM shit all day everyday. Some of these designs these engineers get paid six-figures for are total garbage. Like they've done a hallucinogen right before they hit the drawing board. OEM is NOT always better.

The "accordian" part of the stock 8G intake alone creates turbulence in the air flow through the intake that it actually decreases airflow going into the throttle body.

I used to think the whole $200 intake was garbage as well but I've seen it enough times to see theres actual advantages to a legit straight through intake than just slapping a cone filter on the stock intake.

Guzm4n
03-23-2012, 12:18 AM
I removed the stock airbox because the intake manifold made the intake pipe more to the right, so I decided to put a filter on so it would be easier to put on the intake pipe.

Blue8g
03-23-2012, 12:44 AM
Jigz, I know that OEM is not always better, they have to do things that may just be 'fine' in order to achieve other goals that are deemed more important.

I'm just saying for the little gains to be had I couldn't justify the $200.

And I would just leave the intake box haha

Guzm4n

Really late update:
The 5-speed swap was alright, it was a PITA at times (like changing out the shifter cables) but it was also my first time doing something like this. I think it might've been easier if I pulled the engine with the transmission out and just swapped the transmissions outside the car.

Here's some pics from the swap:

I have a questions for the 5-speed swapped people. Do you guys know if the wedge collar in the pressure plate of the clutch is suppose to spin with the TOB or not? Or is it okay if it stays in place when the TOB spins?
This is what I'm referring to:
https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3861/14207600960_a42efef010_o.jpg

The reason I ask is because I bought an ACT Monoloc to experiment with. It fits my clutch so I put on the TOB to test it and the Monoloc stays in place while I spin the TOB but I'm not sure if this is okay or not. The clutch currently on the Galant right now, has its wedge collar sticking a little out crooked. I read about the monoloc & hoping it will fix this problem if it wants to happen on the new clutch.

Nice nice. Yeah that wedge collar is suppose to stay put. No spinning. The monoloc is very good at keeping your tob from popping out of the pressure plate. It happens from time to time when banging gears on certain trannies

I know, I don't know how they lost it or if they did open it up why they didn't tape it back up

Not really, I'm hoping to get it done sometime in July if everything goes good. I'm really just trying to finish it before I start college

idk if you'll want it, it's chipped and cracked, but if you do just give me some time to find a box big enough & I might let it go for not that much since the condition it's in.

So my Galant does not have a 6G72 anymore...

the 6G75 has a new home in my Galant's engine bay

Haven't really been active as much as I used to be on here, but now I'm back! So here's some things that has happened to the Galant. It was retuned some months back. The brembos finally went on during the summer as well along with some D2 coilovers
https://farm1.staticflickr.com/653/21711519369_182318780a_c.jpg

The Evo got some Enkei RS05RRs so I threw the BBS wheels on the Galant for a little bit, the tires are too big so I raised the front a little but still rubbed at full lock

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/569/21276563083_99a86f4b2c_c.jpg

Tired of rubbing and missing my RPF1s, I bought some 10mm spacers to clear the front Brembos and decided to replace the optional grille with the old style grille until the whole car gets repainted
https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5801/21885683312_e4daf311f3_c.jpg

Found a set of Toyo Proxes R1Rs in really good condition for $400 shipped!
https://farm1.staticflickr.com/681/21885670652_2cd2ab5db6_c.jpg

Future plans is to find a spare transmission so I can drop a LSD in it, still not sure if to go with the Wavetrac or the Quaife.

I bought these JDM heads with projectors in them from a member here awhile back. Finally decided to finish them up and put them on the Galant.
https://farm1.staticflickr.com/759/23617925222_118f5cc821_c.jpg

All that was left to do was secure the projectors and get shrouds. First shrouds I tried were Mini Gatling Guns but I didn't like how they looked
https://farm1.staticflickr.com/596/23700341436_0565f12b7d_c.jpg

I then went with the E46 shrouds
https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5749/23715983575_4b3b0a59d8_c.jpg

Needed to do some trimming to get them to fit

Mock up how they would look with the lens on

All finished

Was that 3rd brake light on ebay? Might've been the same one I was considering but decided against because I feared the green light would mean a ticket. I assume it lights up green, or some variation. If you feel up to it, def post pics when you get it on I'd be interested to see. Like the retro headlights too.

Yea that's where I got it! I assume it lights up green too because that's the color of the letters. Since I have a GTZ my third brake light is on the spoiler :)

Lol nice way of getting around it. I forgot gtzs had their 3rd light on the spoiler. I know when I had my s14 a few jdm optional parts light up green that said silvia. I never got em cause I was afraid of the wiring, plus the cost was too high for me to mess em up.

Pretty much, already had everything I needed from my previous swap & used BHM's adapter plate for the distributor. Might retune it too but I think I should be okay with the tune I was using on the non MIVEC 6G75

so you are almost ready to turn the key and start it then.

M-Rod

You will definitely want to get it re-tuned. Increased compression ratio and increased intake duration will be different enough to re-tune. At the very least, monitor knock for a while to make sure the old tune is safe for the MIVEC motor.

Went to the machine shop to check up on the 74 lower intake manifold and it wasn't even touched after being there for 3 weeks so I took it back. I was originally going to run the 74 lower intake manifold with the 75 non MIVEC upper intake manifold but after everything was bolted up and plugged in there was a big vacuum leak at the rear of the 75 manifold due to the EGR passage hitting the rear valve cover and causing the rear of the manifold to lift up a bit. Pulled off everything and ended up using both MIVEC 75 lower and upper intake manifolds after modifying the mounting tabs on the 3kgt rails and also doing some work on the MIVEC upper intake manifold in order to fit with the 3kgt rails. So now here it is finally running and with an OEM JDM bumper no more fiberglass for me!:icon_mrgreen:
