Alright, first time I'm about to do the oil with the Galant. Now, I wanted to see if anyone else has used the larger filter types with the 4G64 found in the 8G.

Filter #'s found for car:
Purolator: 14610/14612
Mobil 1: M1-110
Fram: 7317

Now the filter I'm interested in is found on V6 Galants, and Outlanders. These filters have the same threads, I've determined that...my only issue, this shouldn't affect the oil pressure at all, right?

I do this with the Pontiac, have been for years. I use the longer filter found on S-10 Blazers w/ 4.3L V6. I get .4 more capacity in the pan with this, and extends oil life a bit. Pretty much what I want to do with the Galant. Thoughts?

didnt you say you already used the outlander one in another thread? I would get a bigger filter bit with my sandwhich adapter and being low i dont want to risk it

Tiny filter ftw doe.

I posted that after this thread. The tiny filters this engine calls for, I wanted something larger. Don't worry if you're lower, the height is a bit taller, but it's much wider. There was plenty of space around the filter...

As long as the gasket seals, the filter it doesn't matter what you use. But for that matter, you can use either oil filter 4cyl or 6cyl on either engine.

My question is why do you want a larger filter? What would you be trying to accomplish?

The answer is rather obvious, bigger filter: more filtration, and increased capacity. I noticed instead of a 4.5qt capacity like with the tiny one, it took a hair under 4.8qts. Just that much will help with distance between intervals. And of course, with the bigger, efficient filter, going more than 3,000 miles is now easier. I used to run 5,000 mile intervals with Valvoline MaxLife (currently in the Galant) but I'm gonna see how the oil is after 4,000 miles with the g/f's driving habits before jumping to that.

Sorry, but you are thinking about this all wrong. A larger oil filter doesn't mean more filtration, it just means larger oil capacity. You need to run a better oil (AMSOIL), and factory oil filters, nothing more.

I'm using a Bosch oil filter on the Galant currently (3312) and they're on par with most OEM filters, as are Wix, Mobil 1 and PureOne filters. I've noticed Bosch filters work as good as AC Delco with my own car.

And as far as filters themselves go, this is a good read:
