Mid 15s probably

High 14's. I have similar mods and it keeps up with a slightly modded gst neck and neck.

stock 2g gst 1/4 mile is 14.9

i'd say anwwhere from 14.8 to 16.0 is about right.

with your mods (and you don't use to the super stick track I go to), you should manage to get mid to low 15's

Honestly it depends on driver. Have you ever been to the track before? If so what was it you took down the track? What did you run? Have you ever taken the G down a sticky track? what type of tires are you going to run? These are all questions that matter before i could truly make a guess. First run is generally the slowest.

If the cars automatic and with those mods, the driver doesnt have as much to do with it versus if the car was manual. With an auto with that power level, you shallow stage, you hold the brake, hold the gas pedal and release the brake when the 3rd yellow light falls and let the car do the rest.

I pretty much suck.....

So yeah, with that being said, best advice I can give you is this, if your using normal street tires which you likely are, DONT DO A BURNOUT. All it does is overheat the tires and get them nice and greasy for the launch, it will be like driving on ice coming off the line. I think if you get a good launch like 2.2 or less 60ft, and you hit all your shifts well, you should be high 14's low 15's.

You should be around 14.6-15.0 @ 93-95mph. I did 15.2 @ 92 just with the 5 speed and full interior, even car seats!!

the diff is done in the tranny. dont use it anymore, if you blow the diff out of the tranny the whole tranny will be junk.

Differential for sure. Blew on my g awhile back and had to swap tranny's. It makes a clicking sound/feel when turning hard in one direction or the other.

Sorry to hear, but I think you've got a month left until it goes. Look into an lsd as soon as possible.

so are diff expensive and is it hard to replace?

i believe goosey is selling his old quaife lsd with the bearing/ gears already pressed in. otherwise it would be around 1k for just the diff (new) and you would have to get the bearings from the dealer and remove your gears and unless you have the right tools you have to take it to a shop to be pressed on. there is a tutorial on c3g as to how to replace it. it is kind of a pain in the ass

seems like the diff is done as said before, just saying but on the very first run y didnt u take it easy and get a feel for it? the track is so different than the street it terms of grip and takes getting used to and if u dumped the clutch too fast the diff exploded that easy. your a v6 right? good luck finding another tranny.

When you say you launched at 3k, did you just hold it at 3k and just side step the clutch and dump it? You have to understand that the stock diff is a POS and it went from not moving at all full power in an instant, thats what breaks shit. The idea is to launch at around 4500 rpm and slip the clutch a little bit until the car barely starts to move, then let it go completely.

LSD will still break if launched wrong. look up 1gs and 2g blowing welded center diffs and rear diffs on dumped launches. gotta slip it esp at the track where it has so much more grip than the street.

Stewi
07-31-2011, 10:07 PM
Yes and no. With a true helical gear LSD like the Quaife, if you dump it, you wont break the diff itself, if the shock is too great, it will end up cracking the bell housing, case or breaking the input shaft or wrecking the shaft bearing. Good advice though, you always wanna slip it. So in short, you may not break the diff if you dump it, but you will break something else, so dont dump it.

Thats what they cost though. The quaife runs about $975 or so and the WaveTrac about the same price. Both have a lifetime warranty.

I see that obx makes some cheapo ones for the evo but i dont think their lsd works with the F5M42? I seen a quife lsd for a 3g eclipse on ebay for 8XX cant remember which tranny though but thats a decent price for what the cite had listed.

Stewi

The 3g LSD's are the same for V6 and I4. I know this for a fact because I have held them next to each other, plus the quaife in Roman's car was formerly in FrankMB's car which was a V6 which is now Craig's car (Fatal1).

OBX Also makes a 3g one, I think you have to special order it, I think for the cost of the OBX unit and the potential consequences of it going bad, its worth it to invest in a good LSD like quaife or wavetrac. When the LSD goes bad, it destroys the tranny, you need to replace the whole tranny if it blows up. The 2g eclipse FWD and 3g Eclipse diff are the same, except they spin the opposite way. For example, if you found a Kaaz LSD for a 2g GST, you could open it up, reverse the clutch packs, put it back together and it will work in a 3g. You can only do it with Kaaz because its a clutch pack type, with a Wavetrac or Quaife you cant because of the gears.

Thanks for the great info! i wouldnt risk swapping in a obx lsd unless i had a spare tranny which are hard to find right now. Having a lsd will defiantly be an objective if i keep on with my power/racing goals.
