Nitrous Oxide systems can give racers that "extra edge" that may put them in the winner's circle. Our own Jack T recorded the fastest 1/4 mile time EVER for a Stealth or 3000GT using a Nitrous system. Handled and installed correctly, they are reasonably safe, but this is one system that we should avoid of, IMO...

This example was a badly-installed Nitrous Express kit (not to be confused with the NoS brand). They wired up the heater directly to 12v (not on a temp switch) and left it on. Then they had TWO pressure release vents on - instead of one - which doubled the emergency release pressure. The car owner claims a malfuntioning safety valve/disc/cap. (?) And below you can see the results.

Fortunately the car was garaged, so no one was hurt. This wasn't a 3S car (it was a modded '91 Nissan Maxima owned by Doyle Schoenberger of Ohio). But these photos bear looking at, just so you know what you're dealing with when you consider adding a shot of Nitrous. This was a professional installation on a spotlessly clean engine, with the bottle kept safely (?) in the trunk!

Well I read that with interest and this guy is an idiot from several points. First he wired his bottle heater to an unswitched power source and left it unattended for 2.5 hours. DICK!!!

Second, he's suing Nitrous Express and the manufacturer of the bleeder valve but refuses to give either of them any of the evidence, like the bottle. But yet he just wants them to pay up with no investigation. DICK!!!!

Third he posted all of this disparaging information on the web at advise of his counsel (lawyer). Now he's being sued for libel because the web is considered printed material and he can't substantiate the claims that anything was defective since he won't relaease the evidence. DICK!!!

The lesson here is, if you're gonna juice, don't be a dick. If you choose not to follow the manufacturer's instructions when you do your own install, don't blame anybody else for you being a dick. Take responsibility for your own stupidity.

This is what nitrous express is putting out to people that email them-- someone sent it to us-- they (Mike woods) is really doing his business more injustice than what has already happened to them. we state the facts, nothing else, don't have nothing to hide, just want to make history so this does NOT happen AGAIN!! The safety standards have to raised!! NX does have this current writing that mike originally wrote (that we added the truth to)... all of Mike's writing is in caps...

NXs instructions are "turn bottle valve closed after every run"...


4. THE HEATER WAS WIRED IMPROPERLY. IN THE INSTRUCTIONS IT CLEARLY STATES "THE HEATER POWER SOURCE IS TO BE FROM A SWITCHED SUPPLY" IE: WHEN THE IGNITION SWITCH IS IN THE "OFF" POSITION THE HEATER CANNOT BE ACCIDENTALLY LEFT ON.

so it does-- BUT that does not excuse the little disc from blowing, does it??!! that is what it is there for-- SAFETY!! by having it on the toggle switch, should NOT make a difference. it would of blew no matter where it was hooked up at, SOMETHING MALFUNCTIONED!

5. THE HEATER POWER SWITCH, WHICH HAS A RED WARNING LIGHT TO ALERT THE OPERATOR THAT THE HEATER IS IN THE "ON" POSITION WAS MOUNTED OUT OF SIGHT OF THE DRIVER. THIS IS CONTRARY TO THE INSTRUCTIONS.

The guy has a good reason but a bad methodology. I'd agree he's an idiot, but then again NX should not have designed a nitrous bomb either. I also would not give NX the bottle. I'd give it to a independent third party for analysis. It may find some way of "disappearing" or convienantly having no defects. Considering that a part of the market of people who buy nitrous is rice boys and young people, they should engineeer safeguards in against bad installs. A bottle BOV device should function as designed and make an explosion like that impossible.

On the other hand.. find an old/used bottle on Ebay cheap, refill it and attach the heater to a +12v battery and you have a neat little explosive device you can leave under some assholes car https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif I wonder how long it takes to go critical once it starts to heat, assuming its BOV is faulty.

No, No, he's got no fucking defense. The guy is a dumbass. It says "Don't wire the heater to a constant 12V supply." He chose to ignore that warning, wired it to his headlight fuse and left it turned on. The stupid ass got what he deserves. End of story.
