been MIA for a little while. started a new job, bought over $15k in tools just because im making good money and i have a large addiction to snapon tools. but now that thats all paid off i decided i wanted to get the G on the road.....went out on a whim and bought me something to sport around with while i get the 64 fully built.

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d65/XCdakotaSTRAT828/Screenshot_2013-01-06-22-32-39.png
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d65/XCdakotaSTRAT828/Screenshot_2013-01-06-22-34-49.jpg

figured i needed a new transmission because the one i bought was toast(needed synchros, input shafts and a full rebuild.....ill save this one for when i go awd with the fully built engine and bigger turbo setup) and i needed a tcase anyway. couldnt find one for under 1000 and i havent been able to find a blown one for the case itself. idk, i look at this car everyday and i miss driving it, its been out of commission for wayyyy too long. stay tuned for some updates, the engine should be here within the next couple of weeks.

Anybody know how to tell if the transfer case has a LSD without tearing it apart?

Is the drop out from an rs or gsr? Best bet is search on evom.net

kylecanthurdle
01-11-2013, 12:43 PM
No just the 4g63 engine with (maybe) the welded diff tube evo tranny for now. When I finish building the 4g64/63 and I get my 6262 then ill run the tranfer case. While I sportin the 63 around ill do the rear subframe swap and it wont be horrible to just swing the awd stuff with the 64/63. I spoke to brian, gonna pull the t-case and look through it to see if its got the lsd. If it doesnt I may just throw my eclipse trans on it and make a custom manifold to clear the starter.

kylecanthurdle
01-11-2013, 12:49 PM
And im not sure what this is out of. Its a JDM engine from an import store online. It did come with the 10.5 hotside 16g if that means anything towards the tcase

Galantman03
01-11-2013, 01:11 PM

kylecanthurdle
01-14-2013, 02:01 PM
Does this look like its got a lsd? Its straight through which I think is non lsd. This is the tcase if anybody cant decipher which diff since there is 3 on these cars lol.

Im pretty sure that tcase wont work.......

kylecanthurdle
01-14-2013, 03:06 PM
What do you mean? If its not lsd then ill have to put one in in order to run fwd with the transmission welded diff tube. At least im pretty sure of that lol

http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-engine-turbo-drivetrain/471664-will-evo-5-6-drivetrain-fit-evo-7-8-9-a.html
I think that you can bolt up the evo 8 t case to the evo 5 tranny though, not for certain, if the bolt pattern is the same then yes, but then you have to make sure that the spline count on the evo 8 tcase matches the evo 5 tranny output splines(which the thread I posted says they do).

The only way your going to know if it works is do the fab work. I had to drop my steering rack to fit my tail section OVER it. Your tcase tail section goes UNDER the steering rack so it might work, but if you have to raise the rack, then the evo 5 tcase won't work. as far as it being an lsd or not I have no idea lol

kylecanthurdle
01-14-2013, 07:45 PM
as of right now im only running FWD....here are my current options.

LSD in tcase:
put welded diff in the evo trans ($300 ish)
take out the output shaft of the tcase and make blockoff plate ($minimal)
get evo axles/spindles/rotors/brembos ($1200ish)

.......OR.......

If tcase does NOT have LSD:
buy eclipse trans ($600 ish)
buy cheap exhaust manifold ($200)
chop up and extend manifold ($200ish?)
fabricate new turbo oil feed/return line

i def dont wanna put an lsd in the tcase AND buy axles, spindles and whatever else id need. since i will be taking the output shaft and tail off anyway id be okay to run the evo 5 case with the galant subframe. once i go awd ill get an evo 8 tcase anyway so im not worried about that just yet. so i really just need to know if this thing has the LSD haha.

kylecanthurdle

Just a little update. Been picking at the accessories and manifolds on my break throughout the past few days and im basically ready to attach the eclipse trans and swing it in the car. Got me a nice pile of stuff to install when I do too lol

you planning on going to a 16G or are you going to run the 15g with the 10.5?

kylecanthurdle
01-17-2013, 08:49 PM
you planning on going to a 16G or are you going to run the 15g with the 10.5?

im not too sure yet. ive been looking for the mitsu turbo chart that seperates them and will see what numbers im looking at. maybe ill just throw the 16g compressor side on the 10.5 hotside and run that unil i get my 6262.

kylecanthurdle
01-17-2013, 09:36 PM
just did a little researching, it turns out the turbo comes out of an EVO 6.5 which is the TME (tommi makinen edition) evo GSR. i guess ive gotta do some more research o see if the engine/drivetrain are out of the same car. im def crossing my fingers on this. if thats the case i hit a goldmine with this engine....

kylecanthurdle
01-18-2013, 06:18 PM
So the tcase is not an lsd tcase. Kinda figured it after I saw that the turbo was from a gsr. I shoved one of those axle lookin shafts I took out of the trans/tcase and spun one and the other spun in the oppositr direction. Anybody know where I can get an eclipse 5 speed for cheap? Also, deos the evo tranny out of an evo 8 have the same internals as an evo 5 or 6?

Galantman03
01-22-2013, 12:26 AM
I looked on the internet, couldn't find any info out there on the same internals. Best bet is call a evo tranny place like Jack Trans, TRE, Buscher ect. Most of these questions can be found on evom

kylecanthurdle
01-22-2013, 09:09 PM
ill give you guys some pictures, cuz you guys love pictures.....haha sorry, reminded me of a meme i saw today.

anyway, small updates add up to big things. so deal with my little progress checks people!

found out the engine and drivetrain are out of an evo 6. the turbo is def off of an evo 6.5 TME.

the subframe is back together and ready to be put back on the car.(traded a virgin subframe for this one with stewim he had already taken the time out to notch it out for the evo trans, too bad im not running an evo tranny until i go awd which makes the notches useless right now haha)
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d65/XCdakotaSTRAT828/20130122_170600.jpg

bought me a little present the other day. figured i can use this for the rad supports, exhaust and bracket work and whatever my heart desires in the future
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d65/XCdakotaSTRAT828/20130122_132231.jpg

as of right now ive got almost everything but the tranny on a pallet ready to be forklifed into my truck and brought home. once i get the tranny, it gets mated to the engine and ill swing it once i can get my cousins engine crane. i already ordered an evo 8 engine harness, an evo 8 upper intercooler piping with a tial bov flange, an eclipse transmission, a buschur 3" downpipe and some AN fittings for the turbo oil drain tube. should all be here by the end of the week. still gotta order some rad hoses, the exhaust manifold which i then have to send out to get extended, then all the small odds and ends. then itll be time to turn the key! still debating on whether i should buy a set of hsk 272s for shits and giggles. im def gonna like the lope, not sure if ill get valve float though. oh and im picking up a set of sandblasted brembos. booyah. my gfs bro owns his own powedercoating business so im getting a deal on that too. gonna go silver and when i get my rims ill make those teal. kinda wanna stand out a tad with this one.

Ivory8g
01-22-2013, 09:52 PM
Very nice very nice. You wont get valve float unless you are revving to 8k+. You hit the freaking jackpot on that auction

kylecanthurdle
01-31-2013, 12:18 PM
If I run stock rev limit on this engine (not sure exactly what that is) and run my gsc s2s (274/274) I wont get valve float either? Figured I have them laying around, why not throw them in.
Anyway, the last of the parts I ordered came in today. Picked up my downpipe and acustom upper intercooler pipe yesterday, new pass side engine mount since the galant and evo bolts are different, my evo 8 harness and my lines came in. Unfortunately im an ass and ordered flange to AN adapters for a td06h instead of a td05h. Dont drink and order parts for your cars kids haha. Ill get pics when i get home. Next week ill order up the exhaust mani and rad hoses. Once I mate the engine and trans together im gonna swing it which will probably be next week.

Not so much my G but last night I was heading out to the airport to get my brother. I was in the right lane and some idiot in the lane to the left of me decided he wanted to take the exit at the last second and cut me off. Gavr him a nice shot, lucky I hit him doing 20ish and not 60 like I was before that. After the police came he tried saying he was in the right lane and he just slowed down to make the exit and I just rearended him. Obviously if I did id have damage on the complete front of my car and the rear of his, not so much on his right side. The cop was even saying "someones not telling the truth here" while looking and talking to the asshole. Ive got the red civic, hes got the gold toyota. Everybody was ok in the accident though, my gf wasnt even paying attention and I stayed relaxed throughout the collision so im not too sore.

Sucks on the accident.

Have you found out if the Evo 6 Tcase bolts to the Evo 8 transmission?

I would imagine it does. People use evo 6 trannys in the 8 as a replacement. It just wont clear 8 subframe due to the over/under design

Silvertune
02-03-2013, 09:11 PM
So the 6 T case bolts up to the 8 trans but outputs underneath the subframe, your picture on page one is with the Tcase laying in it's upright position correct? The Tcases are otherwise interchangeable. I ask this because the V6 subframe and PS rack location make it damn hard to do AWD with the 8 Tcase but the 6 Tcase drops in without issue.

kylecanthurdle

I really dont think the 8 tranny will bolt up to the 6g72 but I could be wrong. But to answer your question yes, the tcase from thw 6 goes below the subframe unlike the 8 tcase which goes above. prob just gonna sell it. i really have no use for it at the moment and when i go awd ill need an 8 tcase anyway. i think ill keep it just in case until i drive the car and see if the eclipse trans will hold up to the power. if it does she will be for sale, if the eclipse trans doesnt hold up ill throw a lsd in the tcase and and remove the output shaft and go from there. are you interested in buying it if i dont end up needing it?

What tubular manifold is that??

02-26-2013, 06:44 PM
What tubular manifold is that??
its an ebay mani. just took a ride to my buddys shop, he said its junk. i basically bought it to extend it to make he turbo clear the starter but it is so cheap and made of thin material that its just gonna crack and warp under the heat of the tig. its just not worth going through the trouble of extending it and then it end up cracking a week or two later. so i guess its either put a milled spacer or get a custom manifold built. i think ill swing the motor in and then ill figure out what to do with it when the time comes. not too sure how i feel about paying $900 for a custom manifold at the moment.

some component speakers, an amp for the highs and an amp for the ten inch DC level 3 ill be picking up within the week. lower control arms with ball joints and bushings already installed, upper and lower rad hoses, moog heavy duty sway bar endlinks, front and rear caliper hardware kit, front brembo seal kit, an fittings, an flanges, ecu harness pigtails. i already posed up the tial bov flange uicp and my seats, they just so happened to be in the pic too. bought me a few other things for work too hence why ive been on the DL for a little.

haha yea i had to wash down the engine bay since the coolant system got an air pocket and spit out the funnel alllll over, shortly after that i was sideways out of the parking lot since the tires were a little wet.

they are pioneer "ts-a1604c".....in all honesty when i ordered them i thought they were components too but when i opened them up i was like "where the heck are the crossovers!?!"....then i looked into it and they were in fact listed in the components section but they are just a "2 way with a separate tweeter". no wonder why they were so cheap! they can handle 350w though so with that hifonics 600x4 i think ill be ok to drive those fronts and the 6x9s in the rear. i think im gonna throw this setup in the daily for the time being until everything is buttoned up because i dont wanna just add confusion with power wires and whatnot in the dash. im keeping it as simple as possible. (that includes taking the immobilizer/ignition key out and putting in a push button start with a main switch hidden somewhere. ive always wanted to be a baller like that haha). i know ill prob end up enjoying the system in the daily so ill just end up getting another one of these setups down the road.

They're 6.5-6-3/4 opening. I should be okay on the doors, but I think I've read the rear is 6x9. I know they make adapters, and I may give em a try, cause the speakers are to nice too just sell, when I have a whole set. Not to mention god forbid anything happens to the galant, most of the cars I was eyeing before it used 6.5 all around and I would probably go with one of them (cars). Especially hondas. Not to mention I think the speakers are discontinued.

not sure if i wanna do quick release. i dont have any need for it and i cant stand those tools that can get in and out of their cars no problem meanwhile they find it necessary to hang their wheel on the rearview or even bring it around with them as a "security measure".......that and ive got some friends that will almost always steal it whenever i leave the car at a show or somewhere with the window open. ive got a stock wheel hub where i cut off the center part where you bolt it to the column so maybe ill tig something to that and just keep a fixed wheel. as for the lug nuts, im not sure how they will last to an impact gun. im not one to use a ratchet when removing wheels. i spent over $2500 on impact guns and sockets alone, i might as well use them.

not much of an update. turns out the wiring is gonna be a bigger nightmare than i originally thought. notttt looking forward to it. just got to pull the dash today to get to the harness and close up the evap core hole. thinking about doing a nice tuck while ive got the harness completely out and accessible. been trying to figure out what accessories i wanna just disregard when i put this thing back together. the simpler the better, thats for sure. picked up a set of evo 9 enkeis as winter rims and for now ill just throw a set of used tires on for now until i do the body work (rolling, pulling and installing fender flares) to fit the rims. i will probably end up blasting these and painting them silver, yano, the way theyre supposed to be.

rebuilt the calipers today. did a bunch of small stupid stuff but didnt really get any pictures of that. installed the intake mani, throttle body, injectors and fuel rail with all new gaskets and o-rings. installed the lower conrol arms. gotta sandblast the hubs and axle ends before i install those. still need to finish rebuilding my struts so i can get it on all 4 wheels again and roll it to my job. getting closer and closer by the day! =]

separated, labeled and simplified all the wires for the engine harness. my oh my this stuff is confusing. the 2nd pic is each connector separated from the harness and taped up for a nice little wire tuck. still need to do the same to the evo harness just to get the tps connector and injector connectors. also i still need to extend some ground, 12v power and 5v power wires. dont have any wire yet so once i do ill finalize the routing to the wires and tape it up and make a main harness.

They've just seen better days. Wanna clean up the splines and threads mainly just so they don't fight me going into spindles and transmission.

finally had a weekend where i was free and the girlfriend wasnt out visiting or i was karting. got the front end together, minus the axles, (never got around to blasting them but once i have everything at my job where my sandblaster is itll take 2 seconds and then ill install em up.) interior dash bar and steering column in to steer the car onto the flatbed and into the shop. gave her a much needed bath. and then i installed a seat just to get it out of my room haha. prob gonna go out in a little bit after i eat and make a nice list of stuff that needs to be done. but hopefully monday or wednesday ill be able to steal the flatbed from my buddy and get this thing to my job. school ends this week so my plan is to work on it at work afterhours for at least 2 hours a night. we all know how that works out though.

I feel your pain. My semester just ended and I wanna get everything done on the car so I can drive it and break the clutch in. Let's see how that goes.

so i havent died or junked the car yet. figured id update everyone with how my life is going and what my plans for the future are.

i started racing karts competitively. its pretty much like a shifter kart with a cage that only makes left turns. goes about 70 on the straight aways and can do 1 lap on a quarter mile track in 13 seconds. as of right now its sitting in my girlfriends parents shed until i can get it to my shop! (that is another little story.)

i moved to Middletown CT. the gf couldnt find a teaching job on long island and it is so much cheaper to find houses up here in CT. still working at a KIA dealership, finally got master certified.

still working on the modifieds. this year we are running the whelen modified tour, we run at tracks like thompson CT, stafford CT, monadnock NH, bristol TN, louden NH, riverhead NY and waterford CT. these races are much bigger so were having to change tires and that means i get to play nascar pitstop every race and try my fastest tire change. so far we've gotten our 3 tire pitstop down to 14 seconds. these cars take longer to change tires because its a wide 5 hub versus the regular hub pattern that the sprint cup guys use.

anyway, these biggest news ive got is i am renting a shop. for now im splitting half of a 1600 sq ft with my gfs brother. he runs a powder coating/cerakoting company out of the shop next door and he needs the extra space for whatever. heres a quick picture after we cleared out an office in the middle of it.

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d65/XCdakotaSTRAT828/IMG_20150429_192246133_HDR_zpsxac5x6c8.jpg (http://s33.photobucket.com/user/XCdakotaSTRAT828/media/IMG_20150429_192246133_HDR_zpsxac5x6c8.jpg.html)

as of right now, im plannin on getting a lift, get the galant there nect weekend, bring all my extra parts and tools and use it to do side jobs and work on the g as much as possible. i also bought an extry level tig welder so im gonna practice on my galant by building a cage and an exhaust manifold and hopefully get my technique down to where i can do customers.

anyway, im going to be updating this thread more and more since ill actually be able to work on my galant.
