my friend at work who is very knowledgeable about cars, and builds drag mustangs said when i go to the track, for one run, i should take off my ac/alternator/water pump belt..(or whatever that belt all runs)..he said it would be like adding 50 horsepower to the car. i was wondering if this has any truth to it

It will add some Hp but you wont be able to drive it for long like that. I did the same thing on my 96 Gs Eclipse

uhm i hate to sound like a jerk, but i seriously cant see any logic to that kind of statement. If anything, I would think a car would run like shit without an alternator....

I said a few Hp not 50!! Aint nothing wrong with running a 1/4 mile run at the track without your alternator belt. You cant just leave your car running for ever cause it will kill your battery!!

It actually will give you HP, due to less parrasitic drag on the engine. it was well worth 3 tenths on my 12 second Mustang. I'd say on a V6 Galant, maybe a tenth

THE DOWNSITO THIS IS UD HAVE TO PUSH THE CAR TO THE LINE. IT WOULD OVERHEAT IN A MATTER OF MINUTES. THIS THEORY HOLDS TRUER WITH BIGGER ENGINES, BUT WITH SAY AN I4, U MAY SEE A 2-4 HP GAIN.

You can get a different belt and simply take the A/C out of the loop, no?
