I know someone who has OEM wood dash in his Mitsu Diamante, but wants to paint the trim. He is wondering if he would have to sand down the wood prior to painting it, or would he be able to paint directly over. Thanks.

sand it down, put a few nice coats of primer, sand the primer down until you get a very nice and smooth finish (wetsanding is the best). Paint the trim. Put clearcoat over it (6+ coats if you want it shiny), if you want to be really anal about it, get 1500+ sanding paper, and wetsand the surface again. Then use rubbing compund (something mild), and wax on top of that. Usually you can get almost mirror finish.
