http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee131/spdracr83/Exterior/20120620_145534.jpg

since that pic i installed a new started and redid my valve cover in wrinkle black but thats it for now

the plan is to tackle the suspension next week and the engine bay

things to be installed:
inner and outer tie rods
wheel hubs
softer coilover springs
sway bar links
brembo brakes

and of course clean up the engine bay really good and powder coat everything that is rusty and ugly

Dang! That's a whole lot of pictures bro! Its awesome, and its coming along. When you trying to finish it?

As money permits basically. I've had the Turbo stuff since like 2008 but life is life and car can wait.

For now the plan is to redo the suspension and install my motegi wheels and brembos, clean the engine bay and powder coat everything that needs it. And if I could paint the JDM bumpers and skirts to match. Sucks I can't afford a paint job at this time. I'm hoping to have this done by MOD which is about two months from now.

I forgot to add that I have also bought a sonata head and hardware for the swap. Still missing few things like cam gears and few things.

Eagle 7 bolt rods

Manley pistons for evo head with a 2.4 block.

Evo intake manifold.

Hks 280/280 cams.

And I have a spare block to build outside of the car without having down time.

Used but got a good deal. Guy said his engine blew up cuz it leaked oil so there is sign of oil starvation.

Finished the brembo swap and replaced the broken shifter cable, I will never use bolts to hold the cable in place ever again!!!!

She's at the shop getting an alignment tomorrow.

Tomorrow we will spray the bumpers, the grille, side skirts and extensions. Primer, base ABS clear before the end of the day. We shall find out how well that's gonna work out lol.

First coat

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee131/spdracr83/Exterior/20121026_023402.jpg

There are few clear coat runs on the front bumper, a spot on the rear visor where a drop of water snuck past the water separator and got into the paint. And I knocked the grille of the stool after the first coat of clear and it got banged up so I put it aside so I can redo it.

I'm so picky about stuff I do. For example I redid a valve cover for a customer twice cuz I simply didn't like it. And when he got it he fell in love with it!!!

Stuff I do has to he a certain way. That's why I'm redoing the tint and gonna sand the hell out of the bumper to get rid of the clear runs.

So today I parked my car at the garage to hide it from the coming storm and compared the parts to rge car and the color is very close except the hood has a lighter shade since it came off of another car from the junkyard. But for now it will have to do until the spring.

Wet sanding with 1200, 1500, and 2000 will get the run out. I had to Westland a couple out of my galant. The paint looks spectacular. It's really hard to tell the difference in color until you get it on the car trust me. Also it's closeto impossible to match them 100% without blending.

If you're Worried about sanding though the paint, get the gray scotch BRITE pads, and scuff up the clear put another 2 coats onthen wet sand. Ialways do 3 coats, and have never sanded through

spdracr
10-28-2012, 11:08 PM
I need to sand out those runs before adding more clear. Would that Scotch bright be enough?? My runs aren't extremely bad but I really don't know much about wet sanding after paint.

Just wanted to know if I'm safe with 2 coats to wet sand then compound it.

Galantman03
10-28-2012, 11:16 PM
Nah you'll have to sand the runs. Be careful. But you can hit the rest with gray scotch BRITE pads. Also, don't use compound, use fine cut cleaner, and then nu finish scratch remover then a polish. Then you can wax lol

I think you should be alright. Wetsand it slow with 1500, wetsanded clear looks milky in a sense. Once you feel it is smooth buff with a rotary on low with a wool pad and get to work. I used the Meguiars rubbing compund to get the sanding marks out. I have yet to polish with the foam pad. It's easier than it sounds. Make sure you pay attention to what the water looks like and keep the paper WET WET WET. If you start seeing color STOP! Once everything is smooth you should be ready to buff it and just take your time. A smaller buffer probably will work best on the bumper. I used a 7" and the bumpers were a little tough to get to.

Dave had 10's on his car at one point, but I can't remember the offset he had.

As a matter of fact, I found his post about it:

https://www.thegalantcenter.org/showthread.php?18010-Proper-Tire-Wheel-Sizing-1987-2011-Galants-**UPDATED-10-18-2011**&p=682861&viewfull=1#post682861

So, with that offset, you will probably have to run spacers to bring the offset down because the backspacing might be too great at +45mm, at least that what I gather from his post. You might need a roll and pull of the fenders then because the spacers are gonna make you poke more.

The ground straps helped tremendously!!! Voltage is solid and now the car pulls hard and smooth. My rom issue is gone and my revving issue is gone as well.

I installed 4 ground straps. One from the alternator the strut tower and one from the transmission to the stock grounding point like Brian suggested. I also added one from the back of the intake manifold to the firewall and one from the valve cover to the strut tower by the alternator. I did 2 pulls in 2nd and 3rd and I was able to redline each gear with no problem. No check engine light yet but I only took it around the corner. Thanks for the help guys.

Here is the hood bracket. It has a 4 way position slots so u can the best one for your car. This is the way it should sit so the shock gets tucked in and doesn't make the hold bulge up.

Plastic clip that holds the washer fluid hose in the fenders needs to be removed.

My impression about them: I've never used any hood shocks before so wasn't sure what to expect. U know they aren't top of the line but they r good. Open the hood and lift it up a lil bit and it will slowly finish on its own. I know the redline lifts up completely on its own so much have stronger shocks.

Overall I'm satisfied with them.

Yes.. both talking about a 90° hood
By the looks of the picture it is not.
Easy fix. Finding the stopping point of the strut, (on the chrome part) mark, extend where your want, mark, then measure. Lets say its 4" from each mark (on the chrome part of the strut)
Measure 4" from original quarter panel bolt towards the windshield. Drill hole and score it. You have to feel for the right pressure you want to get the hood spot you want
Struts dont have the same strain when at an up-right position but like (oak) said put a stopper or you will have to replace a windshield cuz strut will push it pass the 90° angle

My volvo used to do that but the design of the hood didn't go high into the fender by the windshield so that allowed it to open vertically. I'm assuming Hondas are the same way as well. It was definitely nice to be able to open it that far to have more room to work with the hood not being in the way.

The only way I can think to very easily make the Galant hood open that far would be to make slide towards the front of the car when you first open it to give some gap between the hood and the windshield. Either that or a double hinge that will lift the hood up as it opens, to make the clearance.

Don't forget that the hood has pointy edges by the top fender area and those will hit the frame if it goes vertical which will damage the hood.

No real updates. Been working like crazy with no time to do anything.

Projectors are here. Ordered halos too.

Big plans coming soon. If everything goes as well as I hope then I'm gonna have some major updates next month.

Haven't done much lately. I decided to make my own ground straps in hope to fix my misfiring issue.

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee131/spdracr83/Engine%20Bay/IMG_20130531_003022_zps1302f99f.jpg

I also ordered gas shocks for the hood. Got ones that uses hood hinge and fender bolt to mount so no drilling and no riveting. Ill post pics once I get them.

I hate to be a bother, but could you post a little more in-depth about this mod? It sounds like a solid idea, and I'd really like to do it.
And I'm ordering a set of those shocks, that looks cool as hell.
Also, mmmm beige.

There isn't much to it really. Buy some 8ga wire and some copper terminals. Measure the length of each wire to your desired location then cut them. Either crimp the terminals or solder them. And heat shrink them. Different diameter terminals for different bolts.

There are a bunch of threads if u search Google that show best spots to install them. The most important is the alternator to firewall. I also added one on the tranny and on the name manifold and one on the valve cover.

The pre-facelift bumper fits that IC, and most IC's a lot easier from what I've seen. There might be another way to make it work if you keep tinkering with it. Sacrificing your safety and the likelihood of that front end buckling in a crash without it is just not wise. I've seen it happen way too man times on here. Like Zobgels original G for instance... Low speed crash and the car was totaled.

Almost all done.

My buddy who starts my exhaust started dicking me around. Didn't touch it for two weeks straight after he fabbed the downpipe and the cat and the straight piece.

Big thanks to Mko who bailed me out. He came over with his welder on Sunday and banged it all out. Just need to finish the hangers and straighten up the muffler and weld the bungs for the sensors.

After that it's gauges and all done.

Just hope that Marc or isaurio come through with a tune to get it running.

Marc spent a couples of hours tonight editing my tunes and sending it to me. Big thanks to him. Initially my car was running too rich. Then we got it to mid 13s but the idle was too high. The car sounds really nice though.

Still need to adjust my clutch pedal and raise the rear a lil bit.

Looks good but man is that turbo/radiator clearance close. What are you running for management again?

Here's an old pic. Clearance is plenty there.

I'm on stock ecu for now.

I like it. Clearance from starter is awesome beatd using two spacers with the evo turbo. And I was able to squeeze a 3" downpipe without much hassle.

It's a pretty good manifold as spdracr said and it solves the starter clearance issue, I just wish the runners were a little bigger for better flow.

Use flux.

Black8GV6
12-24-2013, 07:27 PM
Put shrink wrap on first, twist wires together neatly, warm the wires up with the tip of the soldering iron, touch the solder wire to the solder iron, apply neatly, don't inhale the fumes, let joint cool, give the wires a little tough to make sure the joint is good, slide the heat shrink over the joint, apply heat to the wrap ( i use a lighter, some use the iron but I don't know how to) and done. Hold the soldering iron like a pen and only the tip of the iron is the sweet spot.

The harness works. Flashed an evo rom that was given to me by 01galant01 and Marc verified it is a good one for me to use to get me to sort out my issues.

I have an idle issue. I think my iac is bad. I also have a camshaft sensor code.

Ordered a new iac. New cam reluctor. And NGK spark plugs so I can run the proper plugs.

Next on the list is a shorter intercooler to allow me to run my crash bar.

Still have two o2 sensor codes with the evo ecu. So I ordered two replacement o2 sensors. Waiting for those. Hopefully that resolves my codes. Once that's all resolved I'll reassemble the interior and order my new IC hopefully so I can use a crash bar and be able to drive it without worrying about not having a crash bar.

Not much has been done to the car. So busy with school and weather isn't helping.

Was fighting the codes I have after the ecu swap. I talked to a tuner who had me send him a log and he said the o2 sensors were good and the rom was causing my codes.

I'm getting a tune shortly then I should be able to put the dashboard back together and drive it around to break the clutch in.

I bought this for my tune. Just need a filter for this giant 4" opening!!

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/19/3esazuhe.jpg

Then gonna do some cosmetic stuff to get it to where I want it to be.

Ordered few things for it that is on the way. I have a week off from school next week. Hoping to get stuff done on both cars. We'll see how that goes.

got tephra V7 flashed tonight. o2 codes are still pending. the tuner said that the o2 sensors are functioning properly. he is gonna take a look and see if he can spot something in the ROM. and if not im either gonna go trace wires again while the car is running to see if the heater circuits are good or he is gonna turn them off for me.

otherwise the car's afr at idle is 14.5

tomorrow im installing the evo maf and and evo map sensors and gonna log it again and send him the logs to fine tune it.

should be hopefully driving it soon.

It was hard driving it without hitting boost and once I hit boost it bogged down and I had to feather the gas pedal. My tuner is good I'll most likely have another tune tomorrow morning. But tomorrow we r getting rain and snow and I'm not driving it in this weather. It will have to wait.

Advice #1. Start with a Stock evo ROM. tephra V7 is heavily modified. There is no Tephra mod that has not been adjusted beyond Stock values. This ROM is for evos that want more from their heavy mods and need more ECUFlash and tuning experience to understand what the mods and maps does. keep it simple.

Stock Evo rom is all you need for breaking. Ones you have it tune. you could switch back to the tehphra if you want extra mod. All you need is transfer over the fuel and timing maps. idle if was adjusted.

well where do i start ?

i went to do a boost leak test and couldnt build pressure in the lines. looked around and saw that the compressor housing came loose because the snap ring never seated properly which was my fault. took the turbo off to inspect it and saw this

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee131/spdracr83/Turbo%20Parts/20140402_163148_zpslkm1ab3p.jpg (http://s233.photobucket.com/user/spdracr83/media/Turbo%20Parts/20140402_163148_zpslkm1ab3p.jpg.html)

ordered a new wheel and new rebuild kit to rebuild the turbo since its apart and coated the compressor housing.

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee131/spdracr83/Turbo%20Parts/20140420_004828_zpsgkg00all.jpg (http://s233.photobucket.com/user/spdracr83/media/Turbo%20Parts/20140420_004828_zpsgkg00all.jpg.html)

noticed that the wheels werent spinning freely like they should. at closer inspection and with the help from Chris (Galanttuner10) i found out that there was some gouging at the housing where the piston ring seals the the housing and was causing it to bind.

after some research i found a brand new center housing and i bought and just received it two days ago. in the mean time i ceramic coated my downpipe, manifold and hotside

Sitting here actually trying to sound it out to see if it would make sense..but what about eve who..like your questioning, like what evo lol. Guess it would add even more insult to injury that its a girls name

If you lived in a state with no front tag requirement, you could get a replica tag made up that said "Evo Lol" and have your actual tag "Eve Who". Or vice-versa.
I still want a matching pair of Galants with the tags "Deja" and "Vu".

Pretty good idea. Would never work for me though. A- I live in VA so front tag is a must. B- I have nothing for an evo, though you would think I do considering how much they messwith me. I get more attention from evos, subies, and bmws than I do civics..yet I stand better chance against civics lol (unless boosted)

Thank you. I'm happy that I have a grille again.

Did some other work tonight. Still more work to do before it's done.

Are these projectors the one that just clips onto the existing light bowls?

Yes the morimoto mini h1. They use a screw built into them to secure to the housing.

The is the mini h1 which basically uses an h1 hid kit
http://www.theretrofitsource.com/components/projectors/bi-xenon-morimoto-mini-h1-6-0-projectors.html#.U8qeEUAQFCw

they also have the d2s mini. i havent compared the d2s to the h1 but im assuming it should work with minor modification.
