View Full Version : 03 galant convert into an 01 look

I have a lot of questions that only Galant center can answer

I have gotten my self into a bad front end accident. I can start fresh and make it look how I want. My 03 Galant stock is not appealing to the eye. I want it to look like an 01. Is it possible with a few mods?

Yes its 8G but some parts are different.

I have a 03 core support in my 2000. It can be done, I just don't have a grill installed, and need to remove a bracket,

So I have to cut that out for the grill to fit?
I bought the bumper today :)

looks like you need a new hood, crash bar, radiator support, condenser, radiator, and maybe new fans if thats cracked too.

forgot to mention what iv done so far before joining this website.

full story of what i hit, where, if i was drinking, and how fast i was going because these questions all ways come up.

Radiator and one of the fans had to be replaced. I bent the crash bar and radiator support back into place. I don't have the tools to change the radiator support

Beam will come in as soon as I fix the rest of the car.

so i am trying to piece your accident together you hit a sign so i understand the front damage and then the back of your is all messed up, how did that happen when your windshield is unscathed?

after seeing the roof damage I'd get another car. front end can be fixed but the roof is part of the main body

plz get another G,

i recked my g just last month and had to repalce the core support, after we pulled the old one off we noticed it was replaced before i owned the car, i knew it was in a reck but not this bad, and im not happy with it any more, so im looking into another G possibly a GTZ, at the beginning of the yr, i have alot invested in my G yet im just not happy anymore, i only did the front end so it didnt look like an eye sore going down the rd and i already purchase all the parts,

your looking at a comlpete lose unless you replace the roof, and its alot of work, same with the core support

If the roof repair were feasible, you'd probably have to replace it outright, meaning cut it out and reweld another one in. It'd be hard as hell to straighten out the current one and get it back to where the window would fit back perfectly. And that don't include the possible (more like probable) tweaking of the entire roof and pillar structure since the roof got caved in, pulling the c-pillars closer to each other. I'd definitely look into taking the money and getting another one. Good luck, keep us posted either way.

Wtf are you guys talking about that shit will buff out! Nah but in all seriousness get another car cause it ain't even worth the hassle of repairing probably cheaper too.

Thanks for the feedback and everyone's opinion.. Finished putting in the bumper + grill this morning.

Its not as bad as it looks. Body shop is charging me $150 for the roof but need a glass to line it up. Not include paint job.
Rain sucks cuz i get water come into my trunk. Damp rid is my best friend.

Hit the sign, came off the ground, and hit the roof in mid air, shattering my windshield. Pictures tomorrow of my trash bag -_-

I will not be getting rid of my car any time soon. I just bought the title for it.
Ill make it convertible before i sell this car. (Like a BOSS) :043:

IDK looks like you made decent progress, but with damage like that any insurance company would have automatically Salvaged the car as a total loss, & with good reason. The car will never be the same unfortunately. I hope you reconsider selling the car and getting another one worth your while...

They did a great job. They put a few sheets of fiberglass to reinforce it. It was tricky putting in the glass but a few tweeks here and there made it look like a brand new car. Glass guy had to put an extra beep of sealant to lift it up in the middle. Perks are that now its guaranteed for life no leaks. Checking the wiring because my heat sinks are not working. Not complaining. Easy fix. Tint coming in soon.

Your talking about a two way splitter?

Sorta-kinda, yeah. The male plug on the harness that plugs into the front dome light is the same as the one on the harness for the Diamante lights. So, with some extra Diamante harnesses, you can sit in your house and solder together a splitter harness that sends power to your rear lights and solder in a plug to plug into the front dome to keep that functional as well, all without cutting any of your car's wires. Hope this made sense, I'm still waking up.

Doesn't look bad at all, install looks good. Wiring diagram is spot on, just make sure your wires are matched up right, because you have switched grounds with our dome lights as well as the Diamante lights. I see you are using the beige ones on your gray interior, I know it's hard to find a gray set of Diamante lights, but it's possible, just keep looking. I've had three sets of gray and three sets of beige, I have one set of each left, but the gray ones are going in my car. BTW, are those the two-wire Diamante lights or the three-wire ones?

The diagram way of wiring didnt work. They stayed on, constant current. Need to rig something up that i can draw the power straight from the light connection to be able to control all of the lights unison unless you have another idea on how to wire them up without splicing the wire.

That's odd, there must be a wire incorrectly installed. I may have misunderstood the diagram. Anyway, what I did when I was toying with the idea, I unplugged the dome light and plugged in the diamante light instead, and it worked just like the dome except there is no way to make the lights stay off when the door opens, they always come on when a door opens. I say check the wiring again, you might have the grounds crossed, one is a constant ground and the other is a switched ground, and the power wire is a constant as well. If you have the grounds crossed then the lights will never cut off. The switch switches the grounds.

Wait! Had the door open when i tested it lol. Try it again hold on -_-
There has to be some way to control them with the dome switch when doors are open. Think :/

wetamup2k3g
01-13-2013, 11:35 AM
I was thinking how can I tie in the constant ground to the main dome switch, if that can be done then they'll stay off if the master dome switch is off. Might have to rig up something, solder a wire into the bus bar for the switch or something. Might have to manipulate the constant power instead.

Grrr i see what your saying. Im looking at it right now.
The hole point was to not mess with the original wire. I guess I'll have to deal with it until we come up with a good plan, for now this will have to work.

It doesn't work. Need a different plan of approach. Doors open closed and car on and off. They don't turn off. Constant power going to them. Here is a picture of the rare head rest i picked today and the wiring job. I shrink rap my wires

iirc theres a constant power at the dome light, it a matter of finding that constant power, and switch power, and making it work, im sure someone who has done this will chime in

oakrdrs187
01-14-2013, 06:42 PM
Actually, its a matter of finding the constant, the ground and the ground when a door is open. Open probably has power coming from the dome light direct ground, making the lights always on.

The dome's constant ground and switched ground are reversed from the Diamante light's constant ground and switched ground if you plug the two harnesses together. Just checked it myself on my own car with my own Diamante light. Not ideal, but if you just switch the grounds on your custom harness, it'll work as planned. Or, you can just use the button in reverse, and keep everything the way you already have it.

gallant
01-15-2013, 05:39 AM
Witch two grounds should i be switching around?
what do you mean by using the button in reverse?

Hopefully this will help. By using the button in reverse I mean that instead of pushing the button in to turn the light on always, pop the button out to turn the light on always, but never mind, the following wiring diagram should work to plan:

Got it to work and they look so nice at night. I recommend this mod to any one that has a Galant. Down fall on Galant is that there is only one dome light and not enough light to light up the floor in the back seat. Only thing I can’t do is control the rear lights by the dome switch. Can’t turn them off on command.

I have a confession to make
This year started off really bad
This is my plastidip experience
Didn't tape enough of the quarter panel -_-
Found a sponge and scrapped the plasti and some clear off the G
Made more work for myself

This is evidence from the night going to work backed up into something
I got lucky that it only make contact with plastic and didn't hurt the fender.

Ok galant enthusiast. I need help, direction, and guidance.
Tired of my car not keeping up. I’m tired of my car looking fast but not going fast.
I made a goal that I want to reach but I will need everyones help to do it. I’m reaching out to anyone that has a (V6 stick turbo on a 02-03 galant) build thread that I can read and take notes. I have never done a swap and know basics about engine internals. If you can point me in the right direction it will be greatly appreciated.
PS.. I also have an account on evolutionm.net and club3g.com

Let me the first to say that you're better off getting a V6 car and starting over, Or you could simply 5 speed swap your car build off it by either going with an evo swap or just boosting the 4g64 in it now.

Black8GV6
12-05-2013, 11:04 AM
If you want a v6 just buy a V6 Galant. That way you can keep your current one as a daily and the V6 will be your project car. There are plenty of cheap V6 galants on craigslist, just keep checking, probably in ~6 months you'll find the perfect one, there are a lot of crap ones and a lot of over priced ones so just checking and you'll find that diamond. If you want to do an engine swap on the V6 then do the 3.8 or if you want to be the man of V6 swaps then swap the twin turbo dohc from the 3000gt, a lot of customization and fibracation will need to be done but you did a great job on that nasty roof.

Get a v6 car. I agree with black8gv6. But its not worth it. The v6 motors are weak. When it comes to turbo. Your better off with a 75motor and doing a motor swap.

Taller tires throw your speedo off and slows acceleration down by shortening your drive ratio. Your engine works harder, albeit slightly in this case, to give you the same amount of acceleration with taller tires vs the ones the car is designed for. Also, to put it simply, the vss is set that with x many rpms, the tires are spinning y many times based on their circumference, and if you have taller tires, you have a bigger circumference, throwing the value of y off. If you're not rubbing it's probably not a huge deal, but I'd still be leery of running the wrong size, too low or too tall.

Thanks bro for explaining it to me. It makes total sense. In the process to get them swapped. Iv been jumping over a lot of hoops lately.
Timing belt has hit its limit. It didn't snap but scared enough to get a compression test to see if any damage has been done internally.

Iv also been keeping myself busy working with fiberglass for the first time. Fog lights are now projector lights. I first had them rapped but it didn't look good so i painted them black. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/22/usade2u9.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/22/8ygevene.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/22/u7unavav.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/22/ehu8y6eg.jpg

The quality of the work, especially the retrofit's output, is top notch. However, stay on top of how sealed the projectors are; they were never meant to be mounted on the outside. Good job going with projectors though, oncoming traffic will thank you for not blinding them lol.

Thanks for the compliment. Not bad for my first time. Water getting in it was the first thing that came to mind. Hit a speed bump and it will blind a blind person lol

Ok so im coming to this page to update the status of my G

My first car meet this big is on July 19th called All Florida Beach Meet in Tampa, FL. Bringing caravans from Ohio. Now im scrambling to get my car back together.

These are the things that i need to finish: Replace headliner, Replace driver side axle, Paint and install the drip molding, Fix or replace the rims (bought with flat spot), Re carpet and clean up the trunk, Redo the eyebrows, Clay bar and wax my baby, Speakers installed, Buy new carpet (black), Glue and rap the dried up dashboard that has cracks, Get a small lip for the front, Make my Gallant into a boosted automatic, Vinyl the roof black, JDM the back bumper, Modify the grill with some fiberglass, and the concept to my vision for my car is a "Fast VIP" type car. Sleeper...
Im not giving up on my baby especially after a timing belt purchase :)

And if your interested about getting a modified flip out key-fob, go to this thread https://www.thegalantcenter.org/showthread.php?52016-Modified-folding-key-question

Preping the roof for the new drip molding to prevent future rust. Galants are getting old and time is not on our side. New clips because the old ones are weakened from the Florida sun. Should be taking the carpet out next.

I gotta say man every bit of this has been pretty damn inspirational. I'm here in orlando as well, but from "life's fun" I've been held back from doing anything actually cool with my 8g. I was apart of a Mitsubishi team mostly dealing with mirage (I also have one) but that died out so I've been hanging out with some 3g guys. Btw just a little secret if you didn't know before hand, budget off of 9th and colonial is pretty much where Mitsubishi goes to die and there are anywhere between 6 to 14 galants there and 3 to 7 3gs there at a time. It's the only place I go to and I personally hate upull. 8gs are like roaches over here but by far yours stands out the best I've seen.

Lol! It's been 3 weeks last I've gone and the last time I was there they had 4 3gs and 7 or 8 8gs. I need to go back Saturday morning myself. It's a "little" yard out of the way for most people and its kinda off the beaten track but their staff is "friendly", their import section is huge, not so many people walking around knocking over your crap, and there's a lot of respect from the normal people who go there. I'll tell you guys but everyone who already goes there likes keeping it under the radar so it doesn't turn out like lkq and upull.

Speaking of which how many galant people we even got in the Orlando area? We need to do a sonics drive thru meet up to give each other some inspiration during this heat rain crap.
