Since my paint looked horrible after the accident, I decided to try something new that I haven't seen anyone do around here.

If you aren't familiar with PlastiDip, google it. Its an amazing product. It is super easy to shoot, very forgiving when it comes to runs in the paint, and has minimal overspray. The best part about it - when you want to get rid of it, you just peel it off!

Here are the pics...

I absolutely love how it came out. It has a very weird flat black finish, but is slightly glossy at the right angle.

After today, I am definitely thinking about painting the GenCoupe. :)

But they do have some crazy colors by the gallons-blaze orange and blue, yellow, purple, hot pink, green, gunmetal look here: https://www.dipyourcar.com/product.php?productid=16&cat=14&page=1

On the cans only the basic white, black, red, and orange and blue.

And you can't really apply plasti dip and then use regular paint on top, the plasti dip reacts with the paint and it would look horrible.

Flat black G looks great ;)

Sweet! How does PlastiDip look when it gets wet ? I've seen a ton of cars doing the flat black hoods/roof/etc. and when it gets wet it looks spotty. Assuming those are done with regular flat black spray cans?

Either way, this looks awesome Pete!

I bought the paint from dipyourcar, but I will not be ordering from them in the future. It took them almost a month to send me 2 gallons of black. They claimed they had a backlog of orders, but I had to call them to get the information.

A simple email with an update after 2 weeks would have been sufficient.

I plasidipped my 8g about a month or so ago and used 6 cans so far lol.
I need to redo my doors, since I spent most of my time on the hood and roof (due to the crappy paint), be careful when you fill up with gas though, it'll dissolve the dip if it gets on it.

You used the spray cans? I would never use those to do a whole car. Trim pieces and maybe some smaller stuff, but a rattle can can't do as good of a job as a gun.

I would think twice before buying their gun. They haven't come out and said if its spark contained or not. Plastidip has a very low flash point... i.e. Be carful that you don't burn your car down to the ground.

There are streaks on the hood, but I really don't care lol. It looks good from far away and I just wanted something that was different and I only spent 45ish bucks so I'm happy.
I call it my bbq pit paint job anyway lol.

I'll eventually get it repainted, after I get my truck painted and finished.

6 cans? Most uses an average 12-14 cans to get a decent coat. The gallon is an equivalent of 14-17 rattle cans.

Nice work. I used Plasti-Dip on the emblems and rims of my Silverado to help my murdered out theme. Stuff works great, cheap, easy to peal off if there is a problem and doesn't take long or much effort to put on. there is a large room for error to. For those who want to do this, like all paints, becareful of overspray. Light dusting coats work better than trying to cover completely with the first coat.
