^^^ yea cause its not needed!!! He's running big maps in his ecu so it recognizes boost!!!

Isaurio
12-14-2012, 02:16 PM
Thats right. No evo ecu need it. Boost control will bee use external with tru-boost controller. Stock rom will do the calculation for 100+ loads. The calculation responce should be faster since the ECU dont have to calculate the turbo portion tables.

nice build, how much do you have left? just a little tip though on your quaife, since you have the tranny out of the car test your axles out. people have had problems with the older versions including myself, what happens is the axles dont lock and when you fill with gear oil it all leaks out. it will look and feel
like there locked in but if you give one a good pull and it comes out then you know you have a problem. its usully just one side.

Isaurio
12-14-2012, 04:05 PM
Not much left. just a few more parts like ss lines. But i need to measure when the engine is inside. Thanks for the advice, we will double check the axles.

Thanks. Do they have a Mil-spec shaft seal for the 74 diamante TB. I know they have it for the evo. Not sure if they are universal.

Thanks guys for post. I will keep you guys update. Today Dion and I are ready to give it some more love. Hope today we finish bolting on the trani with clutch and install new hubs and axles. And do some more tests fitting for Radiator, intercooler, fix bumper, mount brackets and place for the oil coolers, mount the fuel pressure regulator; mount the tru-boost gauge and oil temp gauge. Also measure SS lines lengths to buy the final parts. More pic coming soon. .

I believe the evo seals fit the diamante throttle body with slight modification. I'll wait for silvertune to chime in for clarification since he actually rebuilt my throttle body.

Silvertune
12-15-2012, 08:45 AM
The 74 throttle body uses a unique shaft seal diameter, to get the Evo seals in there you have to machine the bores in the housing out. Your method for doing so may be up to you, you just have to make sure you don't make it too big or the seals won't do anything for you, but big enough so that when you press them in you don't crimp the case on the seal. The nice thing is the 74 shaft is bigger than the 72 shaft so the Evo shaft seals fit even tighter. Mine was holding 45 pounds of pressure after two years of use when I was retesting my system after this latest season.

The inner diameter on 10an swivel for the oil return looks awfully small and the feed fitting looks like it doesnt have a restrictor The reason im saying this is that these garrett turbos are very picky about their oiling. Too much oil and the seals will blow, not enough drainage and the seals are shot again.

I hope you did a research on the turbo to find out what psi it needs to see on cols start, idle, cruise and wot. These things matter when you do the balance shaft delete, because it gets some crazy oil pressures. Which reminds me - did you port the valve relief hole on the oil filter housing.

I have a -10 oil return for and a -4 for feed. A lot of people are running a -3 An for the feed and they have no problem on this type of turbo. They are running crazy boots also. I did my research on the turbo and the proper oil it needs for my boost levels goals. -12 for return is over kill if i'm not making more than 550WHP.

For the oil housing did not find anything about porting the release valve with a balance shaft delete. I'm using a evo 9 oil housing it has a better design than the old models. I will look in to that.

I just looked at my 12an push lock oil drain and it measured 15.6mm ID which isnt alot. That 10an swivel doesnt look any bigger than 10-12mm ID. I'd look into the oil drain setup for this particular turbo again.

Most people are using the oil filter "restrictor" with -4 depending on the oil pressure. The only way to find out is to test the oil pressure. I will have to wait to see the oil pressure while the engine is running. If is too much oil pressure i will increase the oil drain to a -12

You need to relocate your oil pressure gauge sender. Foo close to the axle.

Isaurio
02-03-2013, 09:04 AM
^ it looks closed because the wheel is off the ground making the control arm and axle go down making it look super closed. When i bring the car down is about 4-5 inch clearance.

But i will keep an eye on it. That oil pressure sensor from prosport is on steroids.

deleting the PCV can cause crank case pressure issues, in DSMs and evos usually we weld 2 AN fitting onto the valve cover and run those to the catch can and leave the PCV alone

PVC valve. A lot of you have it confuse. The valve it self is use just for emission and to keep oil from going in to the intake mani. I know u need some type of vacuum on idle to get the crankcase gases out. But since is no valve it should be free flowing out. On boost u needs as much opening and flow to release the pressure of the crank. Is a -8 line it should be good. Of anything i change the setup.

Silvertune

You need a PCV valve so pressure in the manifold doesn't push back into the crank case. If you don't have a check valve between a boosted passage and your crank case you will volcano oil all over that pretty engine bay.

Both port on the valve is going to a oil catch can vented with filter. Dont see how it pressure will built on the can.

Isaurio
02-18-2013, 09:25 AM
did you change the shaft seals in that??

No i have not. Not sure what seals fits on the 74. I just want to break in engine for the first 1k miles. Im not going to full boost on break in. Just normal driving not to crazy.

Silvertune
02-18-2013, 10:36 AM
I wasn't saying yours was, I didn't actually look at how you set yours up just yet. It was just a general comment. Running the can to vent is alright so long as you have valves in the lines so it can't pull unmetered air through the can.

There are no aftermarket seals for the 74 tb, they're smaller than the other Mitsubishi stuff that does have aftermarket support. You can mod the housings to fit the aftermarket seals though. I rebuild throttle bodies with them all the time.

GOOSEY2099
02-18-2013, 10:45 AM
yeah you need good seals cause original crap leaks like a used up whore in the am.

Isaurio
02-18-2013, 11:11 AM
Yeah. I was thinking about that. I will do a leak test and see how much it leaks out. But i will take ur advice to find a way to rebuilt it.

About the maf is very minimal getting un-meter air thru the can. I have 1200cc injectors im sure i will run on the rich side, if it gets air not calculated by the maf, extravair is good since it will lean out the mixture a bit. Nothing a tune and some logs would fix.

Doing this setup
1. to keep the oil and hot gases going back or getting mix on the mani avoiding a lot of pro later.
2. By deleting the pvc "restricted oem pvc" and have a flowing track it will flow out the gases better from the crank specially with psi above 20 and hot cam. I could always change it later.

OMEGA PHX
02-18-2013, 04:10 PM
As I said like 15 comments before you need a spacer for that TB/IM combo and Mil Spec seals work on the 74 tb its a little tight of a fit but just need to press them in ;)

Isaurio
02-18-2013, 04:12 PM
^why spacers? I used the tb on my stock setup with no pro.

Silvertune
02-18-2013, 04:40 PM
You will find that being boosted is a very different story, you don't get away with anything. If stuff isn't sealed up TIGHT you WILL leak and leak always. Tuning around it is often possible, but you just lose power and put more wear on the setup and end up with a filthy engine bay.

Silvertune
02-18-2013, 04:50 PM

OMEGA PHX
02-18-2013, 07:35 PM
Spacer was made by my dad from a piece of aluminum used the 74 gasket as a guide and left some extra material at the problematic areas, gaskets are made out of a thick gasket paper and covered with copper spray a gasket, the length of the bolts depends on the thickness of your spacer as you can see the ones I got are too long but they get the job done.

Depending on how much the engine rocks back and forth, and because you dont have any slack at the upper radiator hose, it may pull on the radiator and damage something there.

You should have used two 90 deg fittings and dropped the hose under the intake pipe.

just a thought tho.

Yeah deez and i was thinking about that. Mounts should be solid and im getting a engine dampener also. But i will look at that option is a little hard because of the radiator and the head location. Hose should have some flex ones it heats up.

Love the build man, attention to detail is whats all about ;)
Maybe a dumb question but if you have the polyurethane mounts do you really need the Ingalls stiffy? Is there to make the engine move even less? Does it attach to the strut tower untouched or is that the custom part?

Isaurio
04-02-2013, 11:14 PM
^ correct is to give extra support. For the torque im making i need the engine solid also is good for track when shifting. It has 3 setting from soft to stiff.

You need the evos and just remake the whole ot fit ours. U need a strut bar on top to give support since the sides is not much surface to make a full circle.

Thanks man im trying here. Almost there

greddy
04-02-2013, 11:33 PM
be careful stiffening up the motor mounting position too much, there comes a point when the vibrations have to go somewhere, and a little flex is good for longevity of your other components.

Isaurio
04-02-2013, 11:36 PM

update. I been taking the time to dissemble my rom to be able to have more power over my fuel delivery. I got IPW adjustment on crank. I wanted this to control how much fuel needs to be deliver at cold start\crank. By default the G has a low value making dump a lot of fuel to get the car to start this is due to the size of the injectors.

since i have 1200cc injectors by leaving the default value and not increasing to match the new injector i will dump ridiculous amount of fuel, making it hard to start or even wash my piston rings.

here is the pic so far for IPW Comp vs time.

Okey guys. Round 2

Pull out the engine again and doubled checked oil pump. Balance shaft bearings. Everything was by the book.

Now i had a evo 9 oil housing. Not much of a different between the evo 8 it just have the extra 1/4 npt for the oil pressure. I think also the pressure springs are different.

Put the evo 8 housing. Put everything back together and so far after 10 min of running no oil light. I will check pressure with mechanical gauge.

Now i have a supper lean condition need to to check the problem

that sucks you had to pull the motor, you know i never seen anyone use that port on the filter housing bracket for anything so i dont know if that had anything to do with it. the 1/4" bspt ports are the ones always used for oil feeds or sensors.

you didnt mentioned if you oil primed your motor before you did the timing belt but its a good way to test the oil pump beforoe you drop it in. when brian built my motor we did just that and got no oil surfacing to the head, we pulled the oil pump cover off and opened the actual oil pump gear cover thats on the inside and packed it with vasaline. put it all back together, tried again and bam oil started pouring out the top of the head. the quack machinists that built the rotating assembly warned me this might happen with a new oil pump cover and that its sort of a hit and miss thing and told me exactly what do if it does happen. next oil pump cover i use i will be sure to pack the gears with vasaline before i install it.

another thing most guys change the oil thermostat to a tomei, you get it from extreme psi. its the funny looking brass thing next to where you had your oil feed plumbed into.

what turbo are you running ??

Isaurio
05-06-2013, 07:22 PM
^ yeah. We did not post prime the oil pump. We crank the engine a few times without the crank sensor or the fuel pump. So oil could flow. I guess it was an issue with the evo 9 oil housing. Not too sure. I also prime the oil cooler so it wont take long to fill up with oil. I think that did the trick. I not to sure i will double check pressure with mechanical gauge to see where she at. Oil is coming up the head since i open the oil cap and oil was coming up.

Also i notice. With the mixture of the amsoil breaking oil and the and the engine assembly lube oil got a lil thick. So is twice as hard to flow around the cooler and lines. Making lose pressure

Is a garret 60-1 turbo. I got it to 12psi and 5psi spring rate on tru boost control. Just for break in.

xd_01
05-06-2013, 08:15 PM
thats another thing, you dont need the oil cooler hooked up for start up. actually its better you dont so you dont contaminate the cooler and lines with assembly lube and and metal shaving from moving parts that are getting to know each other. thats how i did mine, ran it for about 15min let it heat cycle, shut it down drained the oil using a paper towel to sift any shavings out of the oil (really just out of curiousity you dont have to do that part). then re-torque the head studs, filled with cheap penzoil not the baller stuff you got and then ran it for 1k before th dyno.

cleaning the oil cooler and lines out really good would be something you might want to do, maybe even the the turbo feed line and maybe blow some air through the turbo oil passage. im so petro though when it comes to things like this that i would replace the cooler right off the bat, my b&m cooler is only $80 so to me i see it as disposable lol.

So. here is the 2.4L stock Crank fueling. This is great to adjust if you go with bigger injectors. That way PCM/ECU dont OD the fuel at crank. It will help with cold start crank with bigger injectors.

Ok guys. With a few research and some calculation. I got a base data for the FIC injectors. I compare the 2.0 evos scaling and latency for FIC 750 and 720 and added 20% more to compensate for the extra displacement. It should bring me close on my fuel trims

excel preview that i made for the 2.4L 87mm. This is for my setup.

Isaurio
06-01-2013, 09:35 AM
Yes. Now that should give you a base. U need to reduce x=% fuel.

Use gts maf scaling and smoothing

And bump the injector scaling by x=% of the stock evo. Increasing it should reduce fuel

* i notice your calculation is a little much. It should be less percentage due to the limit of the 560cc and ecuflash.

Very nice, thanks =)

Keith i made some raw calculation and came up with a great formula for injector scaling. This should help you. Like i said base to get it start it. Then fine tune the after that. Check this out

We have a fuel pressure of 43.5PSI with vacuum it goes down to 38-40 depends of your CR. SO:

38psi lets say for most application. Mine is at 40psi

38psi/43.5psi*100 = 87.35% so the rest of 12.65% this is what you do

You have evos 560cc injectors your calculation will be
560cc-12.65% = 490cc in ecuflash calculation is 513cc Final tune by Mitsubishi *for EVOS*.

So now. Your bore is 90mm evos is 85mm. 90-85= 5% "mine doubles triples because of the stroke" evo is 88mm compare to your 85.8mm" making the 4g64 100mm stroke. Making it 15% 20% more fuel.

So now we have an % remember this is ECU flash injector scaling fueling. Evo will flow more air per cylinder because of the stroke of 88mm that is why if you put evo injectors to the v6, injectors will flow more fuel making your AFR rich because of the stroke with 513cc scaling.

Final calculation. 490cc+5% 514.5=515cc, this is a base depends on the head flow and mods. In ECU flash there are constant values that default by the formula and Mitsubishi code formula.

Your base 515cc on ECUflash will be 532cc evos is 513cc base on the 490cc calc

if you see ecuslash scaling and you use the [] you will see 496cc making too rich default evos mitsu made it 513cc after their final tune "still made them rich to save knock", yours will be 532cc after your 515cc calculation we made.

Hope it helps. you need to leave it at 532cc as base it should get you close to +-3%. I would use the GTS maf scaling and smoothing and work for last after you get your trims down to -+3% or so with scaling and letancy.

532cc scaling *increase will make you leaner*
-5% from latency of stock evo *decrease latency will make you leaner*

Very nice man! I'll save this to my records =)

My base fuel pressure is 48lbs without vacuum and it goes to 42 with. I should turn it to 40 then and start tuning from that. Thanks bro, hopefully I can give her another go this weekend lol. I about finished my wire tuck and have to figure out another way for my intake to run before I try again.

Yes. Dont matter. the calculation will be the same. 12.5% 490cc. It still drop around 38psi at curb idle with vacuum. vacuum off at 47-50psi. Make sure is around 38-40 psi at idle with vacuum on *no more no less* Adjust pressure accordingly with standard values 47-50psi. if you not getting pressure right double check the fuel pump housing the plastic return line, you made it bigger? If not you should!

This base if everything is on point. should get you leaner after close loop kicks in. Like i said dont trust to much the ROM you have. If you could get the same rom but a very stock one with big map would be a plus.

Yes I still have to make that plastic return part bigger in the fuel pump assembly. I will try a couple of things with the rom (starting from the one I got originally) and make adjustments on that. Thanks for helping me out man, appreciate it a lot.

Hey FYI -
I used a formula from the evo x forums awhile back that says this:

(New Injector size*stock injector value) / stock injector size = New injector value

This works out to be (560cc*220)/210cc = 587 value. Why do you think the stock injector value is 220 instead of lower than what the injector is rated? That's the confusing part to me. I will try the 532 value first and see if injector latency makes it better.

When I had the injectors set at 587 before, I couldn't start it. Then I changed latency down on the entire column by .024 and it runs rich. It's almost like it needs to be adjusted by .012 but obviously the next increment is bigger. Maybe I do need to put the smaller injector scaling in which will allow the car to start at the higher latency values.

Don't mean to think inside your thread lol!

They lower the scaling because of the duty cycle. You dont want to hit 100% duty because it damage the injectors.

It usually 15-20% less than the rate cc. And the rate cc is never on point. If it says 560cc sometimes on 80% duty cycle they flow at 520cc.

587 is way to high for the 560cc. Remember that formula is for a 4cly setup. V6 will be a little different.

The higher the scaling the leaner it gets. When u go above the max rate is like turning it off the injectors.

What is the diamante rate at. It cant be a 210cc injectors

Eclipse it cant be 210cc
Eclipse rom for a 3.0 is at 220cc so injectors most be 260cc or so. Diamante most be a 280-300cc

keith6110
06-04-2013, 10:37 AM
okay I got it...

In theory if I should be doing 532 in my scaling then 560/532 = 105% so 1.05 * 220 (original scaling) = ~232cc. That might be correct lol.

Also the diamante has identical injectors to the 2.4L galant. So what is the oem 2.4L scaling an injector size? This is what I should really be using. I should be looking at the diamante scalings instead of eclipse gt scalings.

Isaurio
06-04-2013, 10:40 AM
Lol yes you do. 3.0 to 3.5. 20% more fuel

The galant 2.4l is 232cc on ecuflash

You cant use that formula since our stock injectors are high indep and are different than the low indep and high flow evos specially from a 4cly injectors to an v6 setup.

Update:

Tb that dont work with outlander mani
3.5 diamante tb
3.0 galant or eclipse tb
Reason. Mani flange too small. It leaves about a gap that the gasket to fully seal. For boost no good. Im getting -15 vacuum at idle so is pullin major un-meter air that is making the afr lean.

Tb that works
Evo 8 tb *is money*
03 outlander mani
This are 65mm like the v6 3.0. Perfect fit

Im running the evo 8 with evo 8 gasket. And is money. Need evo tps and IAC. Outlander IAC and tps also works. Same part numbers.

Tps needs re-wire since is on the other side than stock

Hold up!!!! So your say the people who have the outlander mani and a 6g62+ V6 TBs won't make a complete seal?
Against the flange on the mani?

I thought -15 vac on idle was normal!

How can that be. What's the vac on a evo 8/9 or other boosted car?

Yes but not with 272 cam. Im brining more air. Any lil leak will affect bad.

Not sure on evos with hot cams.

The leak is pretty bad. If you have outlander and v6 tb. The best thing to check the leak is to check your fuel trims. If your low trims is + or max at 12.5%

Rotate the gasket 180* I had a simular issue and we didn't have a complete seal,

It's just odd mmm. Many people over the yrs didn't have any issue swapping out TBs on 2.4 motors, with a v6. TB

This problem only appears when using the outlander IM and 72 or 74 TB's, and It's obviously more noticeable when boosted, with a simple boost leak test you'll find out you can't hold any pressure because of it, this hasn't been documented since nobody had tried to boost with this IM/TB combo.

This is w/o a gasket but you can see that there is no surface on that area to make the gasket seal.

When dealing with this I thought about the evo 8 TB but I just wanted to use what I already had and not spend $80+ on a new tb, this would be the recommended solution instead of the spacer I used.

Because I'm looking at my 72 and its different, that hole below the top right bolt is more inward on my 72 TB..... I'll post a pic up with the a72 TB on the outlander mani just to show you. I'm positive that I have a good seal with the 72 TB and will still work out fine,

yes the hole is less pronounced on the 72 and there is a right way and wrong way of installing the T/B gasket but as Omega already stated it is a combo issue when using it with the outlander intake mani and the 72-74 t/b, now on a n/a motor you will see no leak if the gasket is installed properly but when you add boost to the mix its a no go leaks like crazy.

Yes still the same issue. But on the 72 the hole or gap is less. But still dont hold any boost. I tested and hold about less dan 3-5 psi and looses it in about 10 sec. Dont hold pressure.

If you check your fuel trims and your o2 feed back is going to be a positive feedback meaning lean=adding more fuel to stay at 14.7 afr

Isaurio
06-09-2013, 09:42 AM
Huh I wonder if that is why I kept popping the lean bank 1 code

Yes correct. That was the issue. Over time you will max the low and mid trims. Code comes on when:

Low is max at +12.5%
Mid max at +25%

This are lean condition and ecu is adding:

Low 12% + whatever o2 see in real time more fuel

Mid 25% + whatever o2 see in real time more fuel

Ecu is trying to make up for the extra air coming in that was not meter by the MAF

I had this issue on my NA with my 74 tb.
Low was pin at 12.5% did not know why i was thinking because of the cai. But now is for sure it was the leak on the tb. I got it down by adjusting the latency and tell the ecu add more fuel. Got trims on .1% serious tuning to get it there

They doing it because is a great add-on but dont know the problem. Gasket cover the hole but dont seal it 100%. They dont notice big change on NA because the computer is trying to make up for it. But you need a spacer for the v6 tb or go with evo or outlander.

15 vacuum is good with 272 cams. more duration, means longer over lap which means less vacuum. I have 272 duration stroker cams and im looking to be around the 13-16 vacumm range, with 280 cams its around 10 vacuum. I am sure that seal wasnt helping and could be a nice boost leak tho. good info for 8G people.

Ok. After a few hr of tuning the injectors 750cc. I got the G to fire right up even when engine is warm. Adjusted the IPW on crank. and adjusted scaling. She holds idle but for some odd reason she is showing "o2 and wideband that is lean" 24.8% on the o2 feedback and 12.5% on the low trims. Got a CEL of lean of curse after the 12.5 lean trims.

I'm going crazy trying to find the dam issue. Exhaust leak or another boost leak? The scaling and latency are very close since she is staring and holding idle. But stupid o2 is messing everything up.

PS. on open loop she is fine cold start. AFR are money at 14.7-15 like the map shows. but when it goes to open look o2 reads lean. making the ECU add extra fuel and mess everything up. WTF.

Lets tuning and breaking begging. She was tested a few times on the road and she is healthy. Still needs to tune injectors better. The 272 dont help a lot of overlap. But getting there

Exhaust 3" is done. She is a lil low now. I think i need a bigger and longer resonator

Here is a small clip with the exhaust. Mean idle.
