when you take your car in for a tune up wat are the specific things they do?
i can guess a few of them like change fuel filter, oil check/change etc
the reason im asking is because my car is due for a tune up and i was wondering if id be able to do everything myself

Everything they do is pretty simple and you can pretty much do yourself... they usually check your fluid levels, change your spark plugs, oil, etc... sometimes they might do a little here and there extra, but probably not at a dealership because they're money hungry bastards!

ok so heres a list of the parts i would need:
fuel filter
oil filter
transmission filter
air filter
spark plugs
new engine oil
new trans oil
top up for power steering/brakes/coolant

also a few questions:
is there anything else i should change/check?
what grade engine oil should i use?
does anyone know the part numbers for any of these things?

you might want to pick up some maybe spark plug wires. check out the engine bay to see if anything else is bad or needs replacement while ur at it.

as for part numbers, they differ by brand and such. your local auto parts store should have a catalog for part numbers or a computer. and for parts that they can't find, try the dealer as a last resort
