Whining supercharger like sound.

I was driving one day after getting stuck in the snow and then after driving I started to hear a whining noise like a supercharger. The noise is controlled by how high rpms are. The higher the rpm the louder the noise. I've read that it could be a pulley or belt. My friend said it could have something to do with power steering or the axle itself.

Any suggestions or help in anything would be much appreciated.

Did you ever get the problem checked out? My car started doing that about a month ago. It idles a lot louder now too.
