As of today my decision between Jdm and Worldspec heads has leaded towards the Worldspecs. I've already purchased the corner lights and i'm in the process of buying the headlights.

In the meantime I've been collecting some parts for my turbo :D
- Manifold
-o2 Housing
- Used Td05 (Needs definite rebuild)

HELP Needed or Thoughts on clunking noise

On my 7g I have Emusa coilovers and they have been installed for 6 months. For the first few months I didn't have any noise but as days past a clunking noise appeared. Since I'm out of school, I'm gonna try a fix this.

At first I though something was loose and was rattling around. I took out my interior and confirmed nothing was there. So could these be my suspension setup? Has anyone had this kind if problem and how did you fix it?

Thanks beforehand for any help :D

Check sway bar end links and bracket bushings up front and in back if you have added a bar back there. If not tie rods or control arm bushings. The lower ball joint recall I hope has been done.

That turbo looks like an eBay version. Rebuilding those is nearly impossible because they put T3/T4 parts in them and not normal mitsubishi parts. If you pick up a legit mitsu turbo with good wheels that needs a rebuild I can help you out for sure. If you need any parts don't be afraid to ask because I have a ton of stuff.

Thanks for the tip man! I'll check those out when I get back in the garage. Unfortunately I did not get the lower ball joint recall. I was going to ask the dealership about it when I got my lancers oil change but forgot.

For the turbo I just got it in a snap. If rebuilding does come out as impossible, I can use it as a rebuild practice I guess :D

Need to start collecting Suspension?? Parts now, all external mods and my interior are going to be put on hold until this is repaired.

Word of advice, pm triggermauve for jdm parts, you'll get it for about half the price of ebay sellers. I shudder to think you payed that much for the spoiler compared to what I payed for mine.

Being this slammed in the front with no camber kit is never good. Torn boots and clunks is just the beginning and not to mention that you put your entire suspension on very extreme angle where it cant do its job properly. If these were 17s with some wider tires, it would be rubbing all over the place. Its your car brah, you do what ever you want.

On another note, i love the color and what you're doing to it visually. Get a front lip and some side skirts.

I have had both the stock 7G 5 speed tranny and now I have the 2G GST tranny. You don't need the longer gears unless you are turbo or can deal with the slightly longer gears. They are basically the same just the gears in the 2g tranny are stronger. Stock 7G tranny took all my abuse being turbo so don't worry lol.

I would love longer gears honestly haha. Its annoying to me how much I get "stuck" in between gears with all the weird speed limits in my area, but thats just a personal thing.
But he is right the stock 7g tranny is tough.

Your 7g folding mirror should arrive Monday. On the gap under the mirror try adding "home depot lip" material underneath to cover the gap.

How do those bulbs look in the headlights? When I got my glass headlights I had bought hids for the lows but the hi/lo function on them wouldnt work so I got mad and ended up giving them to a friend. They were cheap ebay ones though.

I haven't actually driven it at night yet lol. I was going the hid route but I just went with normal H1s & H4s. I believe my lows are dual purpose but I don't remember.

I'll check them tomorrow and let you know

mko
09-17-2014, 10:30 AM
these are the turning ones, not the sliding ones. When you turn it yes it changes the camber, but it also changes the caster. These cost about 45 bucks and the good ball joints are around 160

I was going to at first but he told me to take it since I'm doing the head swap. Unless I don't need the harness then that's a different story.

you're gonna need the crank position sensor since all that is in the distributor. I see you got the cam position sensor, just pray you didnt break it. I'd also get the timing belt covers. The middle timing belt cover for 4g64 DOHC is not available, but 2g one fits alright and thats in case you broke them or were broken from before

Use CLR for the rust.

All cam caps are labeled already (pay attention). Just label the rockers.

Trash the stock lifters and get new 3mm lifters.

Place a socket and 1/2'' extension over the spring and hit it good with a hammer. The keepers should slip out.

Use pliers to pull the valve seals. Keep track of the valves

Yeah... that all seems like a lot to me. Especially the parts cost, and the rear main seal labor...

For reference: when I had my clutch, flywheel, pilot - throw out bearings AND rear main seal replaced the total labor was only 350
I bought my clutch, flywheel, pilot - throw out bearings separate and the shop had to buy the main seal.

total cost for everything was like $600

Edit: Also there is no oil pan gasket, Fel-Pro makes a cork one but I think but its trash IIRC. Mitsubishi used Mitsubond from the factory sooo idk what else to say about that.

I'm aware of the belts being cracked and the pans leaking. Last time i checked (If correctly) my mounts are still good.

As for the rear main seal, I don't know what it was or where so I couldn't put any input.

Little Update on the Head Swap.
"Did you do it yet Jon?!" Nope, just collecting more parts.

-Removed the valves and none are bent.
-Will replace the valve seals soon
-Measured the deck and cannot fit a .02 feeler anywhere so it's flat?
-Cleaned it up a little bit more

Parts Needed (That I know of)
-Timing Belt
-Crankshaft Position Sensor
-Knock Sensor
-Thermostat
-Timing Belt covers (Looking at one ATM)
-Bolts & Screws I'm missing or forgot to grab [emoji34]
-Head bolts

Once I get what I mentioned and some other bits I can probably get this is by the end of the month :D

-Get a valve job
-1G CAS (Or a replacement crankshaft position sensor)
-^1G to 2G adaptor
-Knock Sensor

mko

dont forget the piggytail for the 1g cas.

lap the valves and be done with it.

you already have the 7g gs cam sensor, just cut a crank sensor piggytail from any 8g.

get a knock sensor from a V6 8g or 3g. It sits under the intake manifold right in the middle of the V

Head swap will probably be delayed until the summer. I currently have all the parts to do it but not the time. I'm going back to school next week and won't have as much time to work on it.

At the same time I can look into rebuilding the bottom end a little as well. 300k+ Miles with the same engine that has not been touched!

Probably look into replacing rings or go all out if I ever go boost within the next year of swapping.

Summer Plan
-Head Swap
-Trans Swap (If I find one)
- Work on bottom end
-Boost???

The head is basically ready to bolt on but needs some little things like bolts for thermostat/water pipe.

I've created a new list for my future plans. Just a couple below
-MHI 16G
-Intercooler, piping, etc
-DSM injectors
-Gst/7G 5 Speed parts
-DSM link or Safc

Possibly making a trip to Tampa to pick up a 2G Spyder gs for parts. I'll plan just use the engine and all of the trans components. I'll sell everything else I don't need

Well done. Time to finish the job. Most important part is to get the car running again as soon as possible. Don't spend months pondering upgrades and collecting parts. Get the wiring completed well, upgrade the clutch, drop in the motor, fill the fluids, connect the exhaust and start driving. Worry about upgrades and jewel pieces later. I'd guess that 70% of build projects die with the car on stands.

So I'm in the process of debating of using my coolant lines for my B16g. If I were to use them I can feed from the iac and for the return could I just tap into it? I'm currently using the GS water pipe and thermostat housing and I'm a bit confused when comparing it with the 2g turbo t-stat and water pipe.

you feed from the thermostat housing and you return to the water pipe. You can "T" into both IAC lines, but that makes it a bit messy.

Feed from the small nipple on the back side of the housing and return to the small nipple of the water pipe. You're gonna have to use "T" splitters for the IAC water lines.

Do you have balance shafts in this motor? If not I'd get 4an to 3an reducers and switch to 3an oil feed from the OFH.

Make sure you get one check valve installed in the PCV valve line as they fail often,

Make sure you switch the firing order of the spark plugs at the coil since you're using 1g CAS

Haven't updated in a while but I still have the car lol. I've just been busy with work and school so I don't get much done. Biggest project I'm working on rn is getting Ecmlink hooked up. I picked up an evo 3 ecu for $60 and decided to swap over. The car can run with the Maf Gen 2 but I feel like it's too much of a headache.

Those with a 94-95 7G did your diagnostic port have only one wire? So far this is the only thing that's holding me back because idk if they were removed or were never there to begin with. (Picture provided).

Everything else that's happen. I picked up an is300(5 Speed) as a new daily. My daily 7G is still in my possession and I can't seem to let go lol. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170424/ca7ead5a78fe7dd6107f7d8eaf2eeca3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170424/913d241228dae0c96beca65564b0abd0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170424/fa2e4404b52b23898df9f0744a6c1313.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170424/26311e20170a4f99fa47b551ba390a6c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170424/000480efbc0d74c7ed5f28038c839c94.jpg

Also, nice pick up on the manual IS.

My buddy has a white sport cross that's manual swapped and turbo'd pushing around 600rwhp.

Hmm that's interesting. I guess I'll have to add the corresponding wires. How's your Ecu swap going lol?

It's going good actually haha. I have everything blueprinted out and ready to plug in and or bolt on.

Only thing that's holding me back from finishing this is fmic+piping and a downpipe. I would be done already but my house is not agreeing with my car funds. My Oven, washing machine, garage door opener and A\C unit have all broken in the span of 2 weeks....

oh yeah I'm stuck on that as well. My IC piping works but one of my couplers is too close to the ground. I also need to finish up my mid section of the exhaust. So much work but no time/money lol.

but that's good that you got some progress as well

Yeah man always love seeing progress on everyone's 7g's.
You still using the evo intercooler?

I don't tend to share a lot of what I've been doing or whatever but it's getting there. I'm sure whenever it's being force fed you'll see an update haha. But here's something new that I haven't posted lolhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170424/97aff39cfa7a25aa2e8b02d7c50487a9.jpg

pins 42 and 43 on ecu are the diagnostic pins. Dont worry about the single wire next to the obd plug

Okay cool thanks Hristo! The original ecu pinout diagram i have is just blank for 42&43. so I was making sure 😁

Picked up a second connector and made my a harness for Ecmlink. Got it working with my laptop but my laptop is getting old. It's just a bit slow and battery life is horrible. Picked up a $80 Wndows tablet and got link running 😁https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170427/76b0ebfdd82d60987ee6c664e95a955c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170427/40cb4a0078ea410eb2454d55393a2798.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170427/860a241d9cd4e0271c474d0769a8a0c5.jpg

This thread isn't as updated as my other thread on GT but I've done a few things.

Found my idle issue. Prior to swapping to Speed density I was running untuned on a GM maf. After switching over to SD I still wasn't tuned but the car would run if I gave it gas. Made a charge pipe with extra piping a couplers and installed a evo 8 maf and the car idles on its own now. Got clean some stuff and a fix any issues I find.

Happy New Years!
