Ok so I’ve seen everyone else has a build thread and decided I might as well give it a go. Firstly I bought the car 2 years and a few months ago after totally my last one (1996 passat).

I was starting to get into cars more and looking for something that would stand out. After not getting the Supra I was looking at I went with the Galant. It was a really pretty silver color with some nice 18” chrome rims on it but the thing that really drew me in was the airbag suspension. At the time fast and the furious, need for speed, and midnight club were the extent of my knowledge on cars so you can imagine why I wanted it so much XD

so one of the things I first did, having been a huge gamer car guy I started buying vinyls!
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/vinyl1.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/vinyl1.jpg.html)

and I loved the look of the RX-7 from NFS Carbon so I tried making a plan for the galant's future (on a skyline in midnight club) no worries, I don't wanna go with that idea any more!!!
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/vinyl2.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/vinyl2.jpg.html)

a buddy of mine and I sat down in a waffle house till like 4am one day talking cars and girls and future stuff and came up with a plan for a new hood a few years back
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/hood1.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/hood1.jpg.html)http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/hood2.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/hood2.jpg.html)
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/hood4.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/hood4.jpg.html)
(that's the good hood in the background)
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/hood6.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/hood6.jpg.html)
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/hood3.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/hood3.jpg.html)
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/hood7.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/hood7.jpg.html)
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/hood8.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/hood8.jpg.html)
still pretty rough when I left it last but not going with the split hood idea any more...wanted to be unique but can't figure out a good way to make the middle work with a way im happy with. gonna grab another one and keep the same design, just a solid hood

picked up a spoiler on ebay, not sure if I like it yet or not. may sell it and go with an evo style one later. its not on the car yet, sitting with a crap ton of other parts in my room
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/spoiler1.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/spoiler1.jpg.html)
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/spoiler2.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/spoiler2.jpg.html)

I came across this picture a few months ago and instantly fell in love!
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/bumper1.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/bumper1.jpg.html)
after a lot of searching found one other car with a similar style and started that project
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/bumper2.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/bumper2.jpg.html)
picked up a lancer bumper online for pretty cheap, evo bumpers were running like $600+ and im not about to spend that much $ on a project that I may or may not f@%k up
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/bumper3.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/bumper3.jpg.html)
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/bumper4.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/bumper4.jpg.html)

was def. too wide and tall so start the fabricating
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/bumper5.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/bumper5.jpg.html)
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/Bumper6.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/Bumper6.jpg.html)
just went and got another oe galant bumper to mount the lancer one on. gonna use the oe bumper for mounting points, fiberglass the lancer one onto it then cut out anything that doesn't look right and such.

over winter break (Dec/Jan) I decided it would be a GREAT idea to install a HO alternator, new batteries, big 3 upgrade, etc.
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/Battery1.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/Battery1.jpg.html)
first had to move the nitrous solenoids
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery2.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery2.jpg.html)
now for all the parts that are going in:
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery8.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery8.jpg.html)
and what project wouldn't be complete without donating your blood to the car gods!
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery7.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery7.jpg.html)
test fitting for the new location
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery3.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery3.jpg.html)
couple welds and some mounting stuff later and
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery4.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery4.jpg.html)
voiala! no clue how to spell that word lol
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery5.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery5.jpg.html)

now of course the reason for all the electrical, on the left my buddies fosgate P1, middle my old P3, and the new big boy 13w7

had some boss subs for a bit and initially started with some polk audio 8" too
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/subs1.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/subs1.jpg.html)

going for a built in look, not even close to finishing as that was a year ago XD put it on hold during school

made a dual volt meter in case I ever wanna swap to deep cycle down the road, not like it hurts with them wired together now anyway
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery9.png (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery9.png.html)
two of these and an old gauge cut apart
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery10.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/battery10.jpg.html)
since im running two amps and don't always want all 3 subs at all times I put in a nifty switch that lets you toggle between 1/2/both/off
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/av1.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/av1.jpg.html)

and added in the avi plugs for my aux cable/xbox setup (used to be ps2)
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/av3.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/av3.jpg.html)

and yes that is absolutely NFS underground 2! forgot how crap the graphics were though!!!
very very first thing I ever did with the damn car upkeep/engine wise was change the damn spark plugs...not a good first project thing when you haven't done much stuff like that but got it handled just fine...except I found out after it was all back together we pulled a wire for one of the injectors and then spent the next 3 hours trying to solder it back together (way too long but had never done anything like that before!)
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/TGC%20New/TGC%20Passat/TGC%20Performance/plugs2.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/TGC%20New/TGC%20Passat/TGC%20Performance/plugs2.jpg.html)

had a psi gauge that went bad and confused the shit out of me
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/TGC%20New/TGC%20Passat/TGC%20Performance/airbags1.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/TGC%20Interior/TGC%20New/TGC%20Passat/TGC%20Performance/airbags1.jpg.html)

then I saw this little bastard!

cut out the cruise for it for those wondering how that works with clockspring
realized I never used the nitrous and stumbled across this on ebay after searching forever on possible FI setups...what perfect timing ^.^

tried to do an alignment and broke the toe adjustment bolt...had to cut the control arm out and replace it to get her running again

started making a new gauge holder after an idea I saw on an eclipse

recently discovered this is why my airbags leak...the psi kill switch is like cracked or something in the back so I have a new one on the way

I know this is in no order exactly but, being as I did this post all at once with pictures scattered across several files and devices, I hope this at least catches anyone interested up on what I've got going on :icon_cool:

and here are the new rims I threw on just today! only on the back because the front wears something terrible...fixing the airbag leak then I can get an alignment done elsewhere

DANG, you have done alot. You say it's a GTZ, GTZ had a color match grill and 8 piece cladding/trim on the outside that I don't see.
What happen to cause all that blood?
Did you finish the hood? and did you finish the EVO X bumper?
Liking what you have done, can't wait to see the supercharger installed.

I honestly have no idea if it is a GTZ, that's just what I was told when I picked it up. I've tried to find an exact description of GTZ vs. LS but so far the only thing I've really found is that the trim is removable and the grill is interchangeable...I do know that the first owners had it for like 5+ years and all it they did was go to shows with it. I'd imagine that they would have done a bit to make it look better in their image. any way you can tell me exactly what to look for?

I sliced my hand open somehow...massive scar on my left pinkie from in between the two knuckles...the (ex) girlfriend was freaking out at the time but its no biggie :)

naaa I haven't finished the hood. I decided I didn't want the split hood design but I will pick up a new one and start again sometime or another. the evo x bumper is a work in progress...will be graphing it onto an oe bumper hopefully later this week

and thanks, I cant wait to see it either XD the problem is my hours at work just got cut and the only time I work is during school breaks...I am probably gonna pick up a part time job next year to save up and get some stuff done over winter break

I still got Greg looking for a gearbox for you. I told him the one off a GTS has better ratio's then the GT, so we'll see what they find. He's got access to them from all over the country so hopefully one turns up.

If they get it soon it will give them instructions to not cut the shifter cables or clutch hydraulics and to save them and send them with the transmission.

All GTZs exterior had a color match grill (which previous owner could've replace with a "chrome" grill), color match trunk trim, and 8 piece additional trim (see the pic below) which i doubt they removed and put the plan trim on like your car. Also 99-01 GTZs had white face gauges but your's looks aftermarket

Lots of stuff done! I think it's an ES-V6, because even the LS-V6 came with the cladding on the side, only the ES-V6 and LS 4-cyl (02-03 years only) came with the same side trim as the other 4-cyl models (ES and DE). Not that that matters. Anyhow, keep the progress coming.

I don't like how the upper portion (where oe grill goes) matches up with the hood...it just looks off :/ im going to end up extending the hood whenever I make my new one (maybe December-ish) so that the hood sits right above it and looks something like this:
http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p588/demond0d5/TGC%20Exterior/663D0E18-7DE7-41D7-B02F-91A7C7E9C8D3.jpg (http://s1157.photobucket.com/user/demond0d5/media/TGC%20Exterior/663D0E18-7DE7-41D7-B02F-91A7C7E9C8D3.jpg.html)

but the hood is going to be a while off with the 5 speed coming so i'll just have to deal with it for a bit...still gonna be pretty unique as I can only find like 3 8g's with this style of bumper...im sure there are more than that but I have only seen 3

Honestly, from those pics it doesn't look that bad. Is there any way we can get a profile pic so we can see how far it sticks out? I talked him into it because my experience with the auto says that with the supercharger his box is going to blow up in a month, especially since his isn't doing too well in the first place.

To be fair though, it is a huge improvement, I went from a 17 flat to a 15.3 with just the swap, 15 second quarter times still aren't very fast, but for not adding any power or dropping significant weight its a huge drop in time.

I'm gonna bug Greg about the intermediate shaft again tomorrow. I need pricing on the fenders for my car anyways.

When I did my swap I got the shaft from the dealer, its pn MR357370, it would be best to find one used since the shaft has to be pressed into the bearing, I usually have a press I can go use though, so its not out of the question.

I don't mess with CV boots, usually because the shafts break on mine before anything, the axles are too cheap to totally replace for me to bother.

so with the 5 speed swap coming up (hopefully in the next month) I started thinking about shift lights and of course I cant go with something plain and simple so...

I'm going to attempt something like this (with a mitsu emblem of course!) I just have no idea where to start so...maybe Wednesday or Thursday when I'm not at work I will start tearing apart my cluster to get a few ideas :023:

found a vid on youtube where some guys just took apart the shift light and put the LED in behind the cluster (but that doesn't give any "shape") and have been looking up threads on the various gauges here too...idk what im going to do to make it work yet but who knows, should be a fun experience anyway :)

The clutch/brake are pretty close together so I'm going to get under there and adjust it Friday. My foot hits the clutch when braking sometimes, although I could learn to live with it if that's the best it'll get. Found myself "using" the clutch when driving to work and back today :p

First drive was awesome, after rebleeding the fluid line at least...then I noticed after a few times later that it was hanging up going into gear :(
I swapped the brake pedal to the manual one today which shifted it more toward the gas pedal making it possible for me to unshim the clutch pedal. With that clutch unshimmed it moved right and up meaning I now have a longer movement and the clutch is disengaging more so all is perfect now!

ok for a real quick update:
1) shift light is a work in progress...will post pics when it's actually done but getting close!
2) picked up a new grill that's gonna get cut apart and put together courtesy of black8gv6
3) ported/blasted upper and lower manifold courtesy of silvertune
4) decided the SDS will be ran with a 20psi pulley and waste gated down to around 7psi, working on finding parts for that

Silvertune
10-02-2014, 08:45 AM
You won't want to overdrive the SDS with a 20psi pulley and wastegate it down. The parasitic loss of spinning the SDS (which is really really heavy so it takes a ton of power to spin it) will literally be more than 7 psi will gain you in power. Especially since you're using power to compress all that air to 20 psi then venting it off, you'd literally be throwing power away. A guy on club3g way back in the day measured parasitic loss with nothing more than a stage 1 with the small V5 compressor at like 25whp. The loss raises exponentially the higher you pulley it.

For what it's worth a pampered 6g75 will outrun any form of stock block 3.0 and be way more reliable/simple. If that isn't your cup of tea and you're still set on doing a supercharger just run a stage 2 pulley on the blower with the factory crank pulley and you'll see all the boost your stock motor can handle.

Be warned though. Ripp does not service those superchargers anymore and the bearings do not last especially if the car is daily driven and or pulleyed way up. Any SDS units out there now have an expiration date and it would suck to go through the effort of putting one in only to have the bearings fail making all your work go to waste.

demond0d5
10-02-2014, 12:38 PM
I/we hadn't thought about that part of overdriving it...thanks for bringing that up! has anyone ever looked into replacing parts on them with lighter/more efficient stuff that you know of?

I don't want to attempt an engine swap, not at my level of knowledge and being a DD...during the summers I get away with borrowing a vehicle to work and back for a few days max so a full swap would require taking off and that just cant happen =/

as far as getting it looked at I know a guy that works with blowers for a living, he offered to take a look and figure out what it takes to get it back to 100% and with this new knowledge I may see what we can do as far as throwing some lighter stuff in it too...pending what we turn up

I am not going to be doing the 20psi and waste gate right off the bat, that's sorta the end goal though...I know there is a lot between now and then. first I wanna get the thing in and running like 5psi just to make sure everything is working right then start going through and really working it over (probably once im out of school) and build something...probably talk with gearhead about the head work he did, looking up and talking with guys that have boosted 6g72, and maybe trying out my own stuff. g-spot said he hadn't heard of any successful gallants with the SDS in like 10 years so I'm bringing it back! I may not know much or be experienced yet but I am determined :023:

That is why they haven't gated an SDS, 25 hp to drive what, 5 psi? How can you reduce the efficiency so bad with just a driveshaft? There are a few LS/Mod V8's around here running the procharger set ups and wastegating them down a few psi so they actually have an effective powerband, thus why I suggested it.

As for the bearings, I can't imagine they are a proprietary bearing, knowing ripp its an off the shelf piece from the cheapest supplier. Of course who knows if the supplier is still around.

Of course I think a 75 would make for a pretty effective daily set up for you man, a 75 and a little boost would go a long way.

You've never had an SDS shaft in your hands. The blower/shaft with the puny V5 on it weighs 52 pounds. It takes more to spin it than an Eaton M112. Why do you think people whine about belt slip problems even with proprietary tensioners that covered 80% of the pulley with belt when they're running all of 12 pounds? It's ridiculous. TRD makes a few superchargers that follow the same pattern as the SDS but they're hollow tube and much shorter and that's why those work compared to the SDS.

The highest output boosted stock block 3.8 made 300whp before it blew up. Nothing like a giant waste.

Really, supercharging a car is fifty times the headache of doing an engine swap. Sure the SDS mounts with three bolts but if you don't have to know how to get a motor in you don't have the know how to get an SDS to run correctly. Heck not a single V6 galant in history runs a rom capable of tuning for boost and enough 3g guys failed with stock ECU's and emanage in the past to make it a pretty bleak future. You can at least make 280whp with a 3.8 on the stock ECU, why make 250 with an SDS?

happened across this thread not long ago:
https://www.thegalantcenter.org/showthread.php?25681-My-High-Boost-Engine-Build-6G72&highlight=6g74+manifold
haven't been too deep into it but sounds like after everything went in he was shooting for like 21psi or something on the blower before going turbo...will keep reading thru it and see what all he ran into.

I didn't think the sds was that heavy, although I haven't had it in my hands for like 6+ months so...anyway about this whole "stock block" talk...I am only stock for now, eventually I will start building once I'm out of school and have the time/money. I understand that an engine swap would be as beneficial, if not more in the long run, but I wanna give this a shot. it may not be a super crazy build, or something even worth it to the guys like you, but to me its something I think I can tackle and start making headway in. im not after the best and badest thing out there, just getting a foot hold into the world =D but I am glad you guys are giving input and pointing out the stuff people have gone wrong with in the past, itll help once I start working it over :023:

If you have funds I could have StradaFab make that drive shaft out of Ti, plenty strong, plenty light, but you are looking at 400-500 bucks for a Ti driveshaft for it. Might have potential to really make that thing perform.

I will make a note of it and get ahold of ya once things start rolling on it. Will probably be tax time / sprig break / summer before I can do any huge purchases though. Plus I wanna take a look and see what exactly is soooo heavy about it ya know.

Think aluminum would be worth considering? Obviously titanium would be stronger but how strong does it really NEED to be??? If aluminum is half the cost and 80% as effective ya know...just gotta get around to looking into stuff. Going home this weekend so I'm gonna bring it back with me (and the rest of my stuff) so I can get a better idea of what all I have and need and etc

There is probably a good reason aluminum isn't used. If its steel there might be a gear machined into one end that will make this entirely more difficult. Also if there is any thick end that will need to be CNC'd or run on a lathe and internally threaded prices could rise dramatically. The cold rolled tubing is around $30 a foot, but when he makes frames things like the CNC'd head tube for the front forks, or the hub the swing arm attaches too get expensive. I'm talking $8000 for the 7 inch long 2.75" diameter bar stalk machined to fit.

Some say they fit without any issues (recently installed by someone on here) and others say they don't (like justin) but that was a while ago...I'm hoping they fit fine and if they don't I have everything it takes to weld stainless at the house so if I have to do some modifying I can...

What exactly is it that doesn't mount up right? All justin would say is they are crap and never gave any real examples

read thru the review and a few things stuck out at me...do not get me wrong, I am not saying he is wrong by any means. I have not even had them near the car yet but I will be sure to take lots of pics when I do get working on it next week
1) the set I have looks different than the one he had on top (yes I know it's the "old" ones but still, several things look different, not much but a little bit)
2) the picture he has of the first section not lining up with the bottom section looks like the flex pipes could take care of that...there is a LOT of play with them

Thankfully I am going to be hacking away at that entire section anyway. I will be relocating the cat and everything right there for my valve...and IIRC the mig still has stainless in it anyway =D

edit: and BTW thank you very much for posting that, now I will have an idea if I do need to adjust stuff :023:

went out today and got the rear manifold off in about 45 minutes...the PB blaster I hit the heat shield bolts with yesterday must have done something cuz it came off like she was new. Lost a nut for the headers so had to wait for a ride to the parts store. also got a good amount of the exhaust welded up in the basement, just gotta wait till tomorrow when I can finish it and put it all together! should be finishing mid afternoon =D

I will also be doing a review of the OBX headers once I'm done...but so far they really aren't nearly as bad as everyone makes them out to be...more to come on that in another thread at a later date/time though.

Also the fact that you are only at 90 some thousand miles helps as well.

got the bags/struts out today which was fun considering there is no way to get to that bolt that holds them on the bottom with anything other than a ratchet...and when you put any torque on it to break it loose the whole damn assembly moves...ended up putting the jack under the hub so it wouldn't move. also got the drivers control arm out, passenger's has to be cut of course cuz the bolt is rusted in tight...battery on the sawsall died before I could get it out...should be getting everything put back in on the 26th, gotta wait for the bags to get here from cali =/

Laid a bit more fiberglass today since I was able to get more resin earlier...not much else I can do without getting it on the car...but thankfully I should be putting the bags/control arms back in on Christmas Day =D
Pending the arrival of my parts of course...

Was having issues with the cable on the passenger side jumping out going into 2nd and 4th so I hot glued it down...hopefully that'll hold it in place because I don't want to use anything stronger so it's still easily removable.

Got the car back on the ground and my buddy at dodge is gonna help me run an alignment tonight once they close =D

Next step is to find some new tires for the 17's that are a little narrower so I can get those back on!

WarmSCSI spent over $50k IIRC trying to get the supercharger 6G72 to work. He went through multiple engines blowing and numerous headaches. I believe he finally went turbo and never looked back. I remember because I was here to see it all, IMO don't even waste your time with it. Go turbo if you want to keep your 6G72, or do the 6G75 swap. You'll be happier in the end.

What's the issues with running 5psi...I'm not trying to be the fastest, hell I'm not even trying to be fast. I just want to get it in and make it work, even if the performance gains aren't "worth it" or the most optimal for the money. To me it's more about saying "I have this and I did it"

I want something I can play around with from time to time and work on in a few years. If I start getting the itch for a serious build it would be a 4cyl turbo setup...possibly AWD swap and a lot of fab for a 2 door...idk

I just can't see what the issues with the sds are that are so crazy you can't have a modest setup. The air coming in is going to be the same if it's from a supercharger or a turbo, so the engine is a constant variable. Only difference is how you make the boost as far as I see...sds will have the parasitic loss as Justin talked about but also "no" lag...

Because I have a 5000watt system and 2 air compressors...I have a high amp alternator that does the job just fine but if I ever need a little extra juice for the subs when cruising around (say the headlights, AC, air compressors, etc are all on) then I have it.

You should really think about switch to yellow tops. Red tops are not deep cycle for high demand applications. Really they're just regular starting batteries in gel form.

demond0d5
01-05-2015, 08:14 AM
Nooooooo...the "hype" over using deep cycle batteries for audio is all wrong. I did a big explanation somewhere but the short basics are this:
A deep cycle absolutely has to be cycled 12.6->0->12.6 in order to prolong it's life. If you don't cycle it you actually harm the battery (unless it's lithium ion). I never, repeat never, use anything with the vehicle off thus almost all the time I am running off the alternator anyway. The only time my batteries are used would be with very very very high amp draw. So compare the subs, a very high amp draw for a short amount of time, on purely an electrical level to...a starter! They follow the same electrical "pattern" more or less...one quick high amp load

All the nonsense over deep cycles is for using audio with the car off OR alternators that don't keep up...I am neither.

If I did anything it would be switching to blue tops, yes the marine ones, because they are starting batteries that are able to be cycled...

Your battery set up is pretty sweet, not gonna lie. Did you ever get the tie down for the second battery cleaned up, I think that was all that needed any attention because the wiring looked nice!

I know true deep cycles don't like staying charged all the time, but I'm not so sure the Optima Yellow top isn't the same as a marine. I mean the one in my Volvo came out of a rig I had a winch on, so it got used for that, but now in the Volvo its just a starting battery and I haven't had any issue's out of it. Again, I may be wrong, but I think I remember something that they where designed as a deep cycle starting instead of just a deep cycle.

demond0d5
01-06-2015, 08:18 AM
No, I haven't done anything to it yet :/ what I've been thinking is leaving a red top in the front and moving the other to the trunk BUT I am also considering redoing my entire sub setup so basically right now I'm at a total standstill on the electrical project...it works, and works well, so I'm not gonna dick with it for now...plus it takes FOREVER to rerun all the damn wires if I do make a change :(

There are 2 types of blue top iirc, dark grey and light grey case. Dark grey is the one I wanted but don't remember why (this was all like 1.5years ago) but I think those are the deep cycle starting...may be wrong though idk...and iirc from what Dell/Elder always used to say a deep cycle will work for a while without any issues but it shaves years off the end of it's life. So if optimas are good for 10 years and you use a yellow as a starting for the entire life maybe it lasts 8 or 9, but it's still gonna last a while...the are different than trying to cycle a starting battery; that will kill it in like 10 cycles

Thanks btw

I've been having an issue since I did the manifolds with running extremely lean and idling very poorly...we determined it was probably something to do with the EGR system and sounded like it was just getting stuck wide open at idle (car ran fine and normal under throttle). Went out and swapped the EGR valve out for a different one and cut a little more off the bracket that was right there; I think it was resting on it and causing issues too. Now she is back to normal =D next step is to look into the IAC stuff because I have never had a perfect idle before :/

Again, I know the issue with regular deep cycles, but I want to say optima kind of anticipated the yellow top being misused and had the deep cycle marine starting battery the same as a yellow top, I can't find anywhere that says that, but I remember it vividly for some reason. You want the dark grey cased one because it has the post terminals as well as the threaded studs, as opposed to just the threaded studs.

If you are ever back this way I could make you a sweet battery tray to even mount it under the frame rail to at least make changing that headlight easier. I've got a press brake and a company that does waterjet, so we could make it look a lot like the one in my car.

It was there for awhile, but I got that box built and over the trans using the mounts for the factory battery tray, only at like 1/20th of the weight. Pretty sure I had that done when we swapped your gearbox. Hopefully when you come down we can play around with your suspension a little and see if we can make it perform better with the airbags so you don't get so much toe change as the suspension height changes.

Last night the guys an I went out having some fun...racing around the lake and some back roads in a "track" we made up...lots of fun I tell ya what! But after all was said and done I wanted to see just where I stacked up in our group after the new mods...last I cred was still with the auto. Lined up with a civic EF (old light weight boxy thing) with a few mods here and there...neither of us get traction and spun all the way through 1st, neck n neck in 2nd, started to pull on him in 3rd, and when we hit 4th I pulled away from him...he claimed to miss shift so we lined up again and when I went into 3rd all hell broke loose. The bushings holding my shift tower down got pulled through so my entire tower was loose.

How it's supposed to be:

So it's gonna stay mixed until I summer after I can park the car for a while :,( Gotta pick up a DD in a month or two

Funny how most of us buy our Gs as dailys and somewhere in the modding process we need to buy a daily to be the daily while the once DD is awaiting parts, avoiding road salt, or just sitting so it stays pretty. Lol/

Mine flat out isn't safe to drive daily lol. I have another daily and a back up daily, since the back up (truck) is horrible to drive.

I can't stand how rough the bags ride now with the new rears. I want to replace them bad...but that's not a "need" so it's not gonna happen for a while.

honestly coco I was about to call you up a week ago and see what it would take for you to duplicate your rears for me! Although when I looked at your thread again I really don't understand what's going on with it...but we should talk about that sometime

I will probably start with looking into spacers, and I am seriously considering flares when I get the bumper on; might be able to get a sick look with that (something like that red galant from finland)
if not, I start searching for some wheels that other users have so I know they fit =/

Ok so I suppose I should update a little......

Got my ecu in and "working"
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/31/24a85c9ca5a13bac5f24b02457d068e7.jpg

But messing with getting it running right has been giving me fits...jacked with the MAF scaling a lot so that the AFR is close but I feel like it is WAY off from what it should be. Everything is at least running better now, used to be super lean at idle and super rich under load. Someone mentioned maybe the injector stuff is messed up but idk anything about that so this'll work for now.....

Getting some cel codes that I am confused on trying to hide (like egr and o2) so gonna rewatch those YouTube vids and figure that out

Ordered an EGR delete for 3sx so that'll hopefully help smooth out some stuff, won't have to worry about it changing and throwing off all the numbers

Also took my heads out, the light just couldn't keep up with how fast she is:
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/31/e09af78da4af62090ad66986841288b9.jpg

Ok so let's be honest, that's a lie. Just replaced with angel eyes I got from sinshine which look good. Gotta aim them later this week

Im working with Andrew to get the tune set up right...logging has been giving me issues but it's going well enough to continue =D
So far Andrew is doin a pretty good job I guess (not really sure what he's doing lol) but the car hasn't blown up yet so that's a positive!!!

other updates are a lot more fun though:
1) working with a guy from back home (don't think he is on here yet) to do a 5spd swap in his 8g v6
2) got the stuff to make a SS clutch line, thanks to alex/jared for helping to get through to me on that lol
3) got a center console from an evo to make my shift boot stuff look a lot cleaner

on to the more exciting stuff though
4) got some new poly engine mounts for this summer
5) picked up a Fidanza flywheel from Aaron - gotta get a new contact plate but for the price I couldn't pass it up
6) picked up a Quaife LSD

next
im looking for a clutch kit, just gotta figure out a decent brand and all that without spending another 400 =(
the bumper will be getting done once I get back home
also gonna be doing some wheel spacers to clear the front brembos and probably widening the arches a bit when I do the bumper too
thinking about picking up some side skirts to do with the body work too but that's another 200

probably a couple other things I cant think of right now but I am super stoked for summer to come around for all this! may not even go back to work for a month or two so that I can spend day and night on it lol

Haha thanks coco :) we are up to doing WOT pulls, near the end of modeling airflow. Pulling power out comes next (I think) =D

The swap shouldn't be hard, we have been double checking that he has all the parts for the last month or so. Getting the gearbox has been the hardest part of the whole thing honestly! He bought one, then found out the housing was cracked. He's paranoid with just fixing it so he was gonna buy jigz tranny and the shipping was outrageous...now he is driving 3hrs away to get one from some place

Haha sorry/not sorry Matt! I jumped all over it when I saw it pop up on c3g...never seen a used one come up and with the milage I couldn't pass it up ^.^ tbh I didn't have the money to buy it either but paypal credit is a wondrous thing =D glad to see I'm headed in the right direction too!

Unfortunately with the extra expense, I'm probably putting off the supercharger yet again. Sounds like I'm not gonna have a job when I go back home so it's either bills or toys with what I've got saved up :/ may pick up a part time somewhere idk yet

Oh and I guess I should spill about another purchase I came across a few months ago...
Found a ripp kit with a V2 swapped onto it so...little mix and match here and there...came up with a small diameter pulley (2.75?) and the V2 so that's exciting =D

Means I may end up going all at once with forged pistons and doing a full build all at once

Thanks man :)

So this was my room a few days ago:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/23/eb04d7603385293f34fb438033f3ac2f.jpg

Parts include:
Fidanza 9lb flywheel
Quaife LSD
Poly motor mounts
Braided clutch line (already in)
Evo console for a better shifter bezel
Electronics for independent fogs

I've got side skirts being made and should be here in a few weeks to compliment the bumper. And if I can find some at pick n pull I'm gonna grab some fenders for a wider setup; nothing crazy, just about an inch, so I can put some spacers on to clear the brembos =D

I also need to grab another hood to work on but I need to finish a few other projects first

Typed that up a few days ago but my app shutdown and I thought I lost it all...glad I didn't have to re-do it =D

Anyway, on to funner things. Got my shifter bezel in and working. Still looking for a way to clean it up without loosing the airbrushing but coco and I talked about it...may just have to suck it up. I'm gonna work with it in the next few days and see what happens, if I screw it up anyway then I just glass over it and be done. Took a massive amount of pictures if anyone needs a "how to"

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/26/092a97399a1a3a278c0135f2c8dfa146.jpg
(That's not the most up to date but I'd gets the idea across)

Also got the fogs up and ready...except it's not for fogs, my fog switch runs the halo rings on the headlights instead. I never use fogs and won't have any on the new bumper so that was an easy solution and keeps me from adding another damn switch.

You might be able to save the air brushing. Clean your edges up some more and paint it to match (the evo bezel) and follow through with some of the brush work to hide the seams. Just throwing it out there.

Extended lugs and spacers mean...

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/10/71317b8c07e904eb5697b1f7da3185c9.jpg

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/10/02436099bdbbb250452a5ce256a5926b.jpg
(That's two spacers to suck in the lugs, not to use that way)

BREMBOS!

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/10/38ec610866be6cc6031eb836b9921035.jpg

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/10/09c462b8566896509c7793af74ffd3c8.jpg

They barely, barely, clear. These are 15mm spacers (about .6in)
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/10/1708cc7376f1753c8e82c66ef7165ef8.jpg

But the problem I think I'm going to run into is my fenders...I feel like when I lower the bags down its doing to hit :/
two possible solutions I can think of:
1) get a real fender roller and see if I can push em out enough to clear (no more phonebooks)
2) cut and extend a set of scrap fenders like jared did

^^^ It would be sweet to see some custom fab work! Especially based on the rest of your G, one of my favorites by far! Those Brembos are freaking massive, fills in nicely. Looks kickass dude.

demond0d5

The plan is eventually to build the bumper into the fenders and those into the skirts...possibly a rear bumper from (Quentin?)

But honestly I am so tired of fab work right now...the bumper is close enough I *could* leave it on full time but it needs all of the hard long hours to look good still...and no way could I be one of those shitty half a body kit cars lol

Oh and thanks for the compliment :)

Damn it's been a while since I've updated...honestly Rose hasn't done much, I've been away at school and she's been in the garage back home. I do have a new surprise but I'll keep that to myself for a little while :p

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/16/097341a8f9cd8d5fa7dfb1eb205a7850.jpg

Few weeks back I snapped all 5 lug studs on the FR corner so now that I'm back I got those swapped out (and the other side for good measure) with ARP Evo studs:

Compared to the 2.5" ones that broke...the new 3" evo ones:

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/16/06f09c91349ae53c9fac6dc253693b1f.jpg

And getting them set:

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/16/75479375ad675d2ebb455d2a1e47d080.jpg

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/16/1b92aeeea5f6fa1687c890be01ff1b27.jpg

Turns out when the studs snapped the wheel was banging against the caliper and stripped part of the bolt holes so I used some Helicoils to re-thread it. Very happy with these things and only $27! Just drill out the hole, tap it with the included tap:

Thread in a new set of threads:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/16/7e1b8151b95395ed6dc664607376add1.jpg

And presto! Only damage done was the threads and some paint:
