Hi guys, I've got a 99 galant that I just picked up recently and I can't seem to find an answer to this. The fuel filler neck is rusted to the point of leaking when I add gas. The two lines that run alongside it are also heavily rusted. I need to fix this temporarily till I can get the whole assembly for a decent price. My question is, what are those two lines that run to some sort of canister? Is there actual liquid gasoline running through them or just vapor? I'm going to replace those temporarily with fuel line, unless someone out there says it's a really bad idea. I bought the car and then ended up in the hospital for an extended stay so money is an issue.

Those two lines are vapor lines. There's no problem replacing those with fuel hose as a temporary fix. Here in MN, it is very common to see those filler necks and vapor lines rust out on winter-driven cars, and I've seen my fair share of them.

Thanks very much. This is Rhode Island, so we get our share of rust here too.
